Sweet clip...I showed a friend of mine the clip of Danny playing the end of Lateralus and he was unimpressed. We're both drummers (although he totally totally sucks), too. I'm not sure if he deserves another chance by showing him this clip.

Seen him 3 x's and he's nailed the outro/solo in '46 & 2' everytime, besides some very tasteful improv on certain fills that one gets used 2

I would think a drummer would be even more impressed with the way Danny Carey is able to make odd time signatures groove, his creativity, innovation, and his linear stuff. Of course, if your friend totally sucks, he may not know enough to even appreciate all of that.

That's freaking insane. I saw somewhere a performance of Danny doing Forty Six and 2, and I just remember going, "Holy shit! This isn't possible!" I'll see if I can find it somewhere and post it in the 46 and 2 thread.
Wow, what an asskicker. Danny must have the biggest balls in all rock and roll history. More evidence though that the "Live DVD" was never released because it leaked.

Re: Video of Danny during Parabola
Anyone who aspires to be a drummer should listen to Bill Bruford, Neil Peart, John Bonham, Tim Alexander, and Danny "freaking" Carey. Amazing drummer that will go down in history as one of the greats.

That's some good shit, to be sure, but it's nothing compared to the drum solo he did with the dude from Big Business on the 10,000 Days tour. There's no way anyone who saw that could say Danny isn't the best drummer on the face of the earth.
This obviously goes without saying, but Danny is an absolutely exquisite drummer. On top of that, he's so intense when he's playing as is demonstrated in the video, which is essential to any musician who really wishes to connect with their music.
I love this song almost unbearably. As a meditation,as an emotion, as a train of thought and as a gift. A tool. I love the video too- I love the ritual and the symbolism...by far my favourite tool song...
