i was wondering if any had ever heard about rearranging the songs on lateralus??? well, i found(about 4 months ago) some guy who had figured out a different way to rearrange the tracks in order to have a completely new experience with the album... i had read something about it about a year ago, researched it a little, found nothing and gave up... then i stumbled onto someone else who had figured it out... i don't remember the site at this second but when i do, i'll post it...

anyway to summarize it so everyone can try it for themselves... so the title track of the album, 'lateralus'... we'll start there... in this song the 'spiral' is thrown around quite a lot, as it is on the entire album... 'ride the spiral to the end, we may just go where no one's been... spiral out, keep going, spiral out keep going'... so of course, as everyone knows, tool has a habit of double meanings throughout their songs... triple and quadruple meanings for that matter... so one could wrap themselves around the spiral of dna strands or the spiral found in nature as through the fibanocci sequence... so why not the album itself... could it be configured in a spiral and rewritten to have a whole other meaning???

the first single for the album was schism... and i had read from a lot of people after the album had been our for some time that they thought it was weird that tool had decided to make schism their first single when other songs on the album were better, or more what one would come to expect from tool... of course i think schism is a genius song so i don't agree in that aspect, but anyway... so in schism you have maynard talking about:

'pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion'

so i've read a number of different meanings to this song and almost all of them make sense... that's the genius of tool i guess... but take it in the sense of the album as a whole along with the idea of spirals... so maybe the two lovers souls being put into motion are two spirals for a reorganization of the album??? so do this... write down the numbers of the album 1 - 13... and figuring that parable and parabola were meant to stay together, start your spiral there in the middle and 'spiral out'ward... so it would start at 6 then spiral around to 7 then back to 5 then to 8, and so on... but that's only one spiral... the song specifically says '2 lovers souls'... so... two spirals divided by 13 songs would be 6.5 songs... so you'll have to split it 6 then 7... so... starting with 6... it would go 6 7 5 8 4 9... so that's the first six... then start at the end with 13 and spiral the opposite direction... so... 13 1 12 2 11 3 10... so the new order of the songs should be 6, 7, 5, 8, 4, 9, 13, 1, 12, 2, 11, 3, 10...

'and the circling is worth it, finding beauty in the dissonance'

circling... spirals, circling being worth it... to get a new experience... 'beauty in the dissonance'... dissonance being a disagreeable combination of sounds... or not in agreeance with the way the tracks were originally laid out... i don't know, it makes sense to me...

now one could think, this is crazy and it'll never add up... but just do it for yourself and you'll see... of course 6 and 7 go together... that's a give in... but to have the last guitar notes of parabola match up with the beginning guitar notes of schism... only tool, right??? yeah after listening to the album this way, the original way or the 'pure intention' for the order of the songs almosts seems wrong... of course it sounds great that way too, this new way is like listening to it for the first time... almost like a new tool album all together... so back to songs flowing nicely with this new arrangement... so after schism it goes into ticks and leaches... so the drums at the end of schism are incredibly dominant as they are at the beginning of ticks and leaches... on to the end of ticks and leaches with ' i hope you choke' onto mantra... which at first might sound like whale calls or something, but if sped up to twice the speeds closely resembles someone dry heaving... i'm not shitting you... so you have ' i hope you choke' and then the dry heaves... i know, right??? this continues through the new order of the album with beats and notes matching up with songs that are not intentionally supposed to be before or after the songs...

i hope this hasn't already been discussed here and everything i've just said is redundant... if so, nevermind me and i'm just way behind... if not, please try this and re-experience lateralus for the first time... happy trails...

it's been a while since i've seen pi... but the fountain was really good... the first of it's kind to start showing new beginnings along with mayan influences(in the movie i mean)... i bet as we get closer to 2012 that there will be a lot more movies coming out of hollywood having to do with the mayans... the new indiana jones movie about the kingdom of the crystal skulls is one... that's where one of the first crystal skulls was found i think, in or around some mayan ruins... it will be interesting to see how hollywood handles it... the whole 2012 thing isn't in mainstream media yet and i'm anxious to see when and how they go about it... because as we all know the y2k thing with the year 2000 was pretty crazy... so we'll just have to wait and see...
