When many fall at the same rate
Such a fall appears stationary,
As if time were illusory.
My friends, we all are falling,
Whether to or from Grace
I do not know.
We fall among loved ones and rivals,
Heroes and thieves.
Great and small we all fall at the same
Rate of speed through the impetuous
Tide of equations.
A fleeting moment is what is.
Reach out and find a hand
Before you hit the bottom.
Light above and light below
And fingers and limbs and
Confusion in between.
Speak a word of kindness
To ease someone’s descent.
Speak many words,
To slow your own.
Or choose silence
If that is your will.
Choose silence
And remain stoic,
If that is your
Constitution.
