What are your thoughts on Instagram or other "one push effect" apps?
i have mixed thoughts on instagram.
first of all, i have never tried instagram. but i must say that it can turn an otherwise dull photograph into an acceptable one. does it put less shitty photos into our daily news feed, or is it just over saturated garbage?

I agree with that. It can be useful sometimes but generally I find digitally "enhanced" photos cheesy or ugly looking. To be sure, it's not an all-or-nothing thing and you can take a lovely photo with instagram. But usually it looks lame as fuck.

i think that one of the major noticeable differences is the loss of pixels in the entire picture as a whole. it blends together the colors into a psychedelic pallet, then spits out graduating blurry edges with darkened round corners.

Very true, yeah. That's also one of my problems with most digital photography in general, compared to film. But I won't open up that can 'o worms.

I think it allows people to be more creative than they are, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like photography and take pride in the photos I take. It irks me when people don't learn even some of the basics of photography to make the images better instantly without even using instagram. If someone takes the time to make decent photos before they instagram it, then more power to them, but if you're going to post 100 pictures of your cats using different filters without doing it creatively, then I don't care to see them.
