I've been told by a rep from Monster Mash that the saturday headliners (Tool and Primus?) picked the unannounced bands.. I'm anxious to find out who it is.

Yes.
Also, I think people are waiting for a new album tour...instead of the same ol setlist tour.
I do really REALLY HOPE that they break out a new song or two tho.

Messaged the guys from WOATTS and congratulated them, how cool! They are an incredibly nice, hard working band. Wishing everyone who got tickets a great time!

For those that don't know, Soundwave is a music festival in Australia this January, so making the assumption that there will be no album out by then, it'll be the fourth 10k Days era tour Down Under.
While I'm not one to knock back an opportunity to see them live again, I kinda wish they'd just get on with it and hit the studio.
The expected announcement date for Soundwave will be the end of September, so does correspond with the announcement Blair hinted at in the last newsletter. Maybe they're going to announce more than one thing though?

Hellboy, if this is a tour wouldn't it be the 7th without a new album? They've toured every year since 2009 - 2015/2016.

The festival organiser now seems to be suggesting Tool won't be playing (not that they were ever confirmed, it's just speculation), so who knows what's going on. We'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.
Also, from memory Tool have toured Oz in 2007, 2011 and 2013.

wow not Tool related but the Holy Grail of heavy metal/ hard rock bootlegs has surfaced on Dime.
I never (ever) thought I would live to hear BLack Sabbath Dumfries 69.
Word is Ozzy bought up the master and only copy and was either going to bury it, or release it down the road..
Now it's been leaked on the day that tickets went osale for their farewell tour. HMMMMMMMM

Can't wait for the Monsters Mash festival.
I'm wondering if Tool will play a new song in this show? It could happen but i am not sure how they would feel to see a lot of cameras recording a performance of a brand new song.
I just listened to The Grudge and that song would fit very well as the opener for the upcoming festival.

^agreed and if they do it's only going to be an instrumental snippet at best, thinking a 10k return setlist but optimistic for surprises either way stoked for the show! Second day fingers crossed for passenger!! I must mention though in the VIP session last Tool tour I asked our host (mike, carlos? Can't remember his name but he did a lot of deftones tour stuff before Tool) if there is a passenger chance in the future and he said not likely because when Maynard did live with them it totally threw him off by the different live performance atmosphere between the two bands (Tool/Deftones...IEM/live stage monitors..something to that effect). Also to the matter that in Hellboys woods during BDO when both bands played the same festival the collaboration never happened. But we all can definitely hope! Plus Ghost!? Happy Arizonian here! Azbay out!

I'm looking forward to the Oz tour. I don't live there, but they always seem to put on a great show, and more often than not we get some nice bootleg videos on youtube. Them playing with Rammstein a few years back was great fun, and the last tour had some great new material teasers (Jambi modular synth intro, new Schism intro, Lateralus breakdown).
I dunno if they'd bust out The Grudge but I do expect some songs they haven't played in a while. Maybe H.? Something fresh from Undertow? Right in Two? I'm optimistic.

tool will not play a new song at this festival. if you're attending expecting that, you're going to go home disappointed.
it will not happen.

tool was working on it 7+ years ago. Here is a quick overview of the issues:
__________________________________________________ ___________
maynard started making some alcoholic beverages.
maynard started making some funky comedy music in his spare time.
tool needed to make sure they still remembered how to play Jambi so they toured 10 more times making sure to play Jambi each time.
tool was involved a lawsuit which kept Adam's brother busy. apparently this slowed down the "creative process"
maynard threw a big birthday party which killed some more time.
danny carey had his first child.
tool also weren't sure if Schism and 46+2 have been played enough live. more tours to share these rare songs with the world!
some more time (research and development) went into creating a special tool-branded towel that was exclusively available for die-hard tool fans.
according to adam, a band member had a "really fucked up" medical issue which also delayed the process.
apparently Justin saw the cover of Sober by the band "Staind" (it's on youtube). this caused a 3 month long depressive state which halted any writing of the bass components of the new album
oh, and most importantly - some asshole douche recorded a VIP session which caused much stress and emotional hardship on all members, especially Adam, which further delayed the creative process of the new album.

They have a couple of songs written and stuff recorded, but need to finish writing and recording the album. Puscifer is doing a Fall/Winter tour. Tool may go back to work on the new album next spring. No time any sooner than that I believe.

to be fair, that was an exclusive deal. you can't take a camcorder into a movie theater. it's essentially the same principle. if anyone can record it and enjoy it, then why even make it for VIPs only? you got caught. let it go. let go. let go. let go. let go. let gooo!

New interview with Maynard over at Rolling Stone Magazine. No news on the Tool album, but some exciting insight in the differences writing for Puscifer, in my opinion (I'm a music nerd and a journalist, so this is great). The article is a little bit more politically-inclined for my taste. I enjoy hearing about his views on life and such, but he sounds like a curmudgeon here. Certainly not the fault of the reporter--it sounds like they were directing the interview based on what he went into, and that's the way it goes, I imagine especially so with people like Maynard who are notoriously difficult to interview. Anyway, in case you all hadn't caught it from Fourtheye, thought you might be interested. Take care.

I always like to hear what MJK has to say and when I was reading that interview, I kept thinking that was what his interviews sounded like around right around when Lateralus came out.
One can hope...

I had a run-in with some nice ladies sitting behind me at the at the Hollywood Bowl last night. I just could not take it anymore- SHUT... UP! I did not pay to hear you talk. Their argument back at me was they were there to have fun. And for me to just relax. Look, I am good with all that. Sing along, dance, cheer for the band- that's all great. But talk about problems with your boyfriend using your outside voice during a song? Put a sock in it! Worked too once they saw I was serious.

Correct. I had front row in San Diego last time around. It was fine but the better view/sound for this band is a bit further back. Plus I had constant distractions from security trying to clear people out who did not belong there.

I never (ever) thought I would live to hear BLack Sabbath Dumfries 69.
Word is Ozzy bought up the master and only copy and was either going to bury it, or release it down the road..
Now it's been leaked on the day that tickets went osale for their farewell tour. HMMMMMMMM

You coming down for the Forum show? I didn't get tickets yet but will for sure.
Btw, very behind here but anyone going to the Puscifer shows at the Ace? I have tickets to both including front row on the Friday show. Hope to see some of you there.

hey sonny, nice to see you back here.
i'm going to monster mash, but after that the girlfriend wants to do a few days in LA since she has never been there. we should get in touch to meet up while i'm there. I owe you more than a few beers after you saved my arse last year :)
PS: what was that bar with the fancy cocktails very close to the Greek Theatre?
