This appears to confirm that the $45 CD *is* the version with the video display and speaker...

Kind of amazing I'd like something from a band that hasn't done anything in 13 years as much. My fanboi enthusiasm aside... but damn Fear is good. Maybe it's just good to hear them again after such a long hiatus.

Are we sure Fear Inoculum is the first song? If it is, anyone else think the chimes/machine to start is some kind of sonic trance inducer? (I know, all of Tools songs are to induce fan trances) Anyways, it seems to me that Danny or the band is trying to ping something in our brains before the album starts. They have had long enough to figure out sonic triggers for the subconscious and I feel like this is one of them.

I am in agreement with this theory. One of the few bands that understands this. In fact, it could very well be the reason behind their name - TOOL. Pushit, Schism, Triad, Rosetta Stoned, Wings Pt 1 & 2, to name a few. Dynamic shifts, key changes and screeching guitar sounds generally do the trick, but there is much more to it and how they came to discover and recreate it is beyond me.

I've caught myself sorta nodding off (changes in brain waves?) while listening to descending and invincible - the live, unmastered versions.

I am looking forward to putting the finished product to great use (and learning how to)

I'm hoping for seated theater shows, 5 nights at The Fox.

I know that's not a popular opinion

I would love to not have to stand in a pit with a bunch of early 20 something dudes again...

Seems like theaters might be too small for Tool though...

No way Tool stops playing Schism live (even though they should).

I like this but 46&2 and Jambi should be retired for a while as well. Ænema and Stinkfist can remain in the set forever.

With the entire catalogue opened up for streaming, I really hope that we will get more surprises like when Intolerance was added to the setlist. Eulogy, Swamp Song, You Lied or Pushit (Salival version) would be a nice addition to the tour.

I feel like we are going to get new tracks + Jambi, Schism, 46&2 and Stinkfist. So to me your setlist prediction is realistic but they will find a way to get Schism in there (likely instead of Ænema).

Would be a blast if we got the new album and having songs like Flood, H., Lateralus and Right in Two as an addition.
I can't agree with this more. I have seen all 4 of those songs live and they are amazing, much better than the retreads we get year in and year out.

I don't want to sound like a setlist complainer. Seeing tool in 2019/20 is a privilege no matter what is played I will love it.

Oh you silly dreamers.

Is this everyone's first rodeo with Tool setlists?

If they are busting out 90 mins of insanely complex music from the new album there is no way in hell they'll go back and do a major break out.

They'll need to cruise the rest of the way in the set just to survive the tour.

Yep I was going for realistic not what I actually want.

I kept Aenima since it's a good opener and they seem to like it in that spot.

Yep I was going for realistic not what I actually want.

I kept Aenima since it's a good opener and they seem to like it in that spot.

I was looking up cell phone speaker wattage and it seems most of them are 8 millawatts. Yes, not even 1 watt.....So a 5 watt speaker is actually going to be considerably better sounding than an internal phone speaker.

They'll need to cruise the rest of the way in the set just to survive the tour.
Are you saying you think they will be playing the new album in its entirety live? Cuz that seems like it will not happen.

Yes, the full songs. Without the segues. CC Trip being the pee break.

If anything they may rotate a new song or 2 but I fully expect it all (or almost all) to be played.

Roughly the same age as Adam

Anyway...

With all the new songs I hope they break out, I don't expect any "not played in a long time cuts"

Anyway...

With all the new songs I hope they break out, I don't expect any "not played in a long time cuts"

Set list discussions... Ah, how I missed them! Also nice to see the energy ramping up here. This has always been a good forum.

Tool has usually been good about representing at least one song from each full length release during a given setlist. And lately they've even included Part Of Me off Opiate.

I think they'll play various combinations of The Pot, Vicarious from 10k (sure wish that was Right In Two instead). Parabola, Schism from Lateralus. Stinkfist, Ænema from Ænema. And Intolerance, Sober from Undertow.

Like Embryo says, it's gonna be the path of least resistance so they can focus on the new stuff. I am totally fine with it.

Imagine the rehearsals for this tour, I believe the drums for FI were recorded over 2 years ago. They are going to have to learn the the new material all over again. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if the tour doesn't kick off until Nov/Dec and Aftershock is a "one off" with the same set list as the other festivals this year.

Interesting theory and makes perfect sense. I am with ya on the festivals thing but I actually like the recent setlist well enough to consider Aftershock, especially if no more dates till late this year early next. Aftershock is ok. A little dusty. And the stage layout does not quite work. But I had fun the one time I was there.

Btw, one thing I have learned after 40 shows or so is not to underestimate the band's tech skills. Last time I saw them in Sacto they sound-checked with Eulogy with Maynard and tackled it full roar. It sounded amazing for a song they had not done in years (I think they only recent performance of it was during a show just after Cornell died). Adam tends to be a bit sloppy when he's not rehearsed, but I have utmost faith in Justin's and Danny's ability to do any song in their catalog at the drop of a hat.

Definitely. Which makes Aftershock even more appealing.
