Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Also on that practice video when you can see their setlist it doesn't look like it says Brena where it suppose to go but you can't really make it out.

I still haven't listened to the first show. Not sure if I want to, just a little more than a week till the SF show...
any word on how night 3 was? Tix are pretty cheap for the Emotive show in SF, unless they screw the pooch badly on MDN, I might shell out 50 to see the last night.

hey HP, do you want to try and get together before the show on the 16th? I would suggest carpooling but I'm in San Ramon..

Someone uploaded the full three nights of Tempe. Bad news is they are SHN so I have to download the stupid plugin first (not to mention SHN is way bigger than FLAC, size-wise). Good news is, well, you can see how the shows went :P

I'm not going to listen to the shows before next week, though. I've seen the setlist and I don't care---they're playing the whole album plus a song or two for an encore. Nothing to ruin there. But I listened to so many boots of the Tool tour before I saw them in SF that I feel like I was concentrating more on the minute details/variances between shows rather than the entire experience.

Yeah, San Ramon is pretty damn far from San Jose. I'm probably going to show up slightly early, park near the venue (I almost always park in J-town when I visit downtown SF), and then hang out at my friend's house for a bit, and then walk over to the show. So we can definitely meet up somewhere in there.

Even back in their hey day I'm not sure Maynard was consistantly nailing 3 Libras. At least not on the few bootlegs I heard.

Studio magic.

The Leno performance is close, but still not really 100 percent whats on the album.

That last note is really fucking belted and really high.

He simply can't do it now.

FYI: "Last Call with Carson Daly" is recording the first 5 songs tonight at the Avalon ("13th Step").
It will air this Friday.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Wasn't there talk from Billy that they'd be busting out all the covers they've done?

I was on some epic drugs that 2nd night in Sydney in 04, but damn if I'm not sure that they did Master of Puppets as an encore.... ?

I'm not sure it's a case of can & can't, I think it's more just a really tough song to nail.

Kinda really wanna beat some stooge up in a back-alley before the SF show and steal his tickets, put on a beard (The classic good musicmansf vs. evil musicmansf dilemma) and then get in fo' free.

That's like the most anti-scalper thing to do ever. Am I right, hipsters?!

Off topic (Naturally), but did anyone see Soundgarden on Conan last night? Cornell's still got it! God I'd love to catch them if they decide to tour (And not play 1,500 capacity concert halls *Akhem*)

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

i was insanely lucky to find out about the guitar hero soundgarden show around 3 or 4 pm and get to amoeba and get a wristband right before the wristbands guys left. they were walking out as i was in there looking for them.
i was thinking they would play 3 or 4 songs and bail.
they played 9 or 10 including 'hands all over'. i was 15 or 20 ft back.
one of the luckiest and best days of my life.

Did you ever do lights for APC previously? I just ask because I remember there was this one really cool setup they used back in 2003 or 2004, it was like a bunch of these fiberoptic lights twisted around poles onstage and made to look like glowing trees that grew up into the rafters... I thought that was so cool. Just curious if you maybe had something to do with that also.

Thanks for all your work with Tool. Xcel Center this summer was lots of fun.

I got a 4 cam DVD with pretty good sound. I've only watched a few clips of it. Seems like a pretty cool show, a little too pricey for a lowly proletariat for me to actually attend though...all hail bootlegs though :D

self addressed stamped envelope on it's way. :)

If you are over 40, The Wall is a serious milestone album.

Yes, it was amazing. I really hope they put out something new.

CC needs to be out in front of the mix a little more. Sure sounded vintage though...

now if we can only get the surviving members of The Screaming Trees back together..

The original download was a 9GB dual layer DVD...I had to compress it down to a single one. Didn't really notice a quality loss either, thank you DVDShrink.

I also have a 1981 Wall DVD, I guess they filmed one for release and it never saw the light of day, except on an ollllllddddd VHS rip that someone digitized.

and the new avatar....I dunno, just wanted something gross :p

If you are over 40, The Wall is a serious milestone album.

Sgt Pepper for my generation.

I'm sorry, but that's a retarded statement.

Taste may be subjective, but Dark Side, Animals, and Wish You Were Here shit all over The Wall.

The Wall was the end of Pink Floyd and not without good reason; Roger Waters is, and will always be, a total wanker.

Hell, I would take Piper over the Wall.

I have to agree I like all of those albums better than The Wall.

Went to the show in KC. It was amazing if you can get tix for face even though there awful go it's worth the price. I searched ebay on recently added auctions and found a pair at face.

I love 'The Wall'. I even love 'The Final Cut.
I'm going to the PHX show in a couple weeks.
Been trying not to read any reviews and not watching the youtube vids at all.
It's going to kick fucking ass.

Don't try to out-hipster Floyd fan me pal.

I prefer meddle and animals (WYWH is one of the most overrated records ever made) but in the context of rock history The Wall stands alone.

I was speaking for my generation and DSOTM was before my time.

glad you up on your Pink Floyd though...

Got my tickets on Roger's site back this spring for 1/2 the price of TM! Catching the Dallas show on the 21st. I've only heard bad ass things about it so far. CAN'T WAIT!
