Well that's kind bullshit, because if you're on the floor, and the dude in front of you stands (as inevitably happens), I can guarantee you won't be sitting. So then why bother with the seats in my opinions? Then again I have no strong objection standing close to people.
Because unless people start throwing and moving the seats around (which security would catch onto real fast), seating keeps everyone from moshing or doing other comparably retarded things, and it's just safer that way.

I'll check again, IM(not so)HO "Soup" is one of the most underrated rock albums of the 90's. It was a real tragedy that band was cut so short...
i concur.....really dug the first 2 albums. only saw them them once, the infamous halloween show when Shannon whiped it out and pissed into the crowd. he was completely wasted and could barely sing, big disappointment. the band was TIGHT tho.......

I hate floor seats. I sell/trade them if I get them. I'm just stating why they do floor seating.
That's fair enough, I just don't understand why some people are so against them? If you want to sit, then in the stands is the place to go - why ruin the fun of those who'd prefer to stand? Every experience I've had seated on the floor has been far inferior to standing on the floor.
Being on the floor at a Tool show is extraordinarily lame. When I saw them in 2007 I wanted to be ZOMG CLOSE TO TEWL so I got GA tickets and arrived early. This was a horrible, horrible choice.
I went with my girlfriend, and we were very close when Isis opened---like 30 feet from the band. People started piling in and it was pretty chill. But as soon as the lights went out for Tool, there was a CRAZY push towards the stage. I don't know about you guys, but being compressed between a thousand other dudes while protecting my girlfriend from death or groping is not my idea of fun. My 5'2" girlfriend was literally suffocating so we had move to the side of the arena, far away from the stage. It was her choice, but I sure as hell didn't want to be there either. At one point I was standing up without my feet on the ground.
And then the music started. As we all know, they have huge screen behind the band. Well, being on the floor, the bottom of the screen was obstructed by the floor. And of course, they project on the floor itself too, which I couldn't see at all, since we were below it. So I was basically seeing about 40% of the visuals.
I don't know about you guys, but I go to live shows to see a LIVE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE. I am in no way interested in bumping around with a bunch of sweaty fuckers. And since the tickets are pretty pricey, I intend to get the full experience.
The sound isn't any better up front, in fact it's worse. The band members aren't lit except in certain moments so you're not gonna see them either. To be quite frank, I actually feel bad for the people who are on the floor when they see Tool.

Do you feel bad enough to buy me a beer? 'Cause I'd argue that if you really felt bad about my floor seat in LA, you'd be willing to at least buy me a beer. :)
couldn't have said it better myself. i remember leaving the show in 06 and raving to some friends about the visuals projected on the floor of the stage and they were clueless. we had seats in first row of the balcony 2 sections from the stage, kicked ass!! this year i got row 2 balcony, 1 section from stage. stoked!!

out of the 6 shows ive been on the floor 3 times. once was amazing. once was a sneak down cuz we couldnt see anything. and once was okay.
the floor can be great if the people around you are feeling it, and you are tall. otherwise tool has so many visuals it seems now that any seat in the house is a pretty awesome seat. so if your on acid or mushrooms find a seat in the back. if you are drunk or rolling find a place to stand down front. if you are sober, get close to the sound booth and thank those guys for all they do.

Sounds exactly like how Lollapalooza was last year. Before the show it's fine, but as soon as the first song starts there's ALWAYS a huge surge towards the stage. It was like the amount of space you'd expect one person to take up before the show was crammed with five people after it started. Lollapalooza was so much worse though because everyone was SOAKING wet with sweat from being out in the heat all day.
The floor can be fun sometimes, but Tool shows are so few and far in between that you can't afford to be bothered by getting pushed and people trying to mosh while you're trying to listen to the music.
Anyways, if you're ever going GA floor, it's best to be a couple beers deep so that the pushing doesn't get too annoying.
Hey, how much did the limited edition shirt cost? And was it reasonably hard to get your hands on one? Thanks!
The LE shirts were $40. And yes, if you are not one of the first ones in the venue you probably won't get one. We drove to Austin from Dallas and I kept thinking the entire time there would be a huge line due to people wanting these shirts. Got there two hours early and turns out I was third in line. It still wasn't easy though. As soon as I got inside I had to run to the nearest merch table and try to beat all the other people who were doing the same exact thing. I got the black one, but the grey one was really cool too. Not sure if it was 100 each or 100 total.
* And another thing. . . . I don't know why everyone keeps bitching about a seated floor. They don't do this at every tour. It almost even seems they alternate every so often. Last year in San Antonio I was Against the rail on the floor. And I had a blast! But I get so sick of all the ass holes pushing and shoving, and having to guard your spot so nobody sneaks in and steals it. I like the seating on the floor becuase you still get to be close but sit back and enjoy whats happening in front of you. I know a lot of people like to mosh and do whatever. And I guess I just left that behind after high school. Now I would much rather pay attention to the music and the show that I paid good money to be at. So if every now and then Tool wants to do a tour where the floor is all seating I'm ok with that because it will be a different experince than a GA floor. Which I do still enjoy, just not everytime.

I partied with him a few months before he died. Those dudes were so chill and Hoon was a little "on edge"..
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But theres a big chunk of their fan base that think theyve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."

I've seen Tool at both GA floor and seated floor shows throughout the years. They both have pros/cons. But I'll take seated floor over GA. Also, I've sat all over for Tool shows, the floor show is cool from up high. Not knockin it. But you can see them just fine up close too (lighting is not an issue) if that's your thing.
