Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Same setlist as all of the recent shows. I'll let someone else provide all of the great detail. I'll just say I was completely blown away how great ALL of them sounded, especially Maynard. I guess we got lucky that he is healthy again. The crowd around me figured it was time to talk during all of Wings and the first half of 10,000 Days before they started pay attention to it. One idiot was slamming into us trying to get to his seat after being thrown out of 2 other sections...such assholes out there. He then proceeded to stand on his seat the next 3 songs!

Anyway, I agree with some of the other posters saying Lateralus was the highlight. Amazing. Not one good performance all night...EVERY SONG sounded incredible, and I rarely say that about any concert. I've been to about 100 concerts and this would probably be top 4 for me.

Someone else will fill the Maynardisms in...one was about him cumming in our mouths?? lol...and a few "is it raining yet".

Anyway, after reading so many posts about this tour, I wasn't sure if it would live it to the hype. Wow, yes it did, and more. The band is just incredible, but Maynard and Danny are just mindblowing.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Set list was pretty standard, just got home and my ears are ringing. Gonna eat some ramens and take a long nap.

Great show fellas, but i think the show has become a novelty.

Too many lasers, not enough feeling in the songs. They still ripped, but I guess the novelty has worn thin.

Sorry guys, see you in DC!

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Good show.

....and definately one of the loudest TooL shows i have been to.

The Pot sounded top notch, 46+2 always rattles the bones, Schism is a good "think" song, Wings>10,000 Days is a very wonderful tune...

Jambi and Rosetta.... those songs are fun....

I took my dad to see the show with me. He is mainly into Salsa and things of that sort, but he introduced me to the Doors and Zepplin as a kid. He had a great time. It meant alot to have him there.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

I'd like to thank all the assholes in setion 200 row F seats 9-15 for talking loud enoguh durink wings and 10K that I thought there might be alternate lyrics to the songs. WTF people? Show a little goddamn respect. That 20 mins was possibly the best 20 mins of a concert I've ever seen and these people can't STFU for it. FUCK YOU!

And Kirkhorse, man, I don't know what show you saw, but this was amazing. Anyone going to see a TOOL show knows that it's more than just the band on stage. A very big part is the visuals that go with the songs. The lasers were amazing. I loved how the clouds were visable in the lights above the band.

Another highlight, this was my 9 yr old daughter's first TOOL show. She was in awe and can't wait for Nassau Coliseum.

Peace the fuck out!

Amazing. Only negative thing was drunk young bucks that thought there cocks where the size of a watermelon. Some fucking brat fought with a security guard because he was in our section, A section he didn’t have a ticket for,. Push came to shove and dudes beer spilt all over me and the $25.00 poster. Had to drop another $25.00 for another, prick. had to rant

Besides that they blew my mind on a entertainment and spiritual level. Thank you guys for an amazing show, cant wait till next time!

People reading these reviews in anticipation ,,,be very very excited!!!

This was the best show I've ever been to.

Unfortunately, on the lawn there were assholes moshing all around us. THEY MOSHED DURING WINGS 1/2. WTF??? Camden sucks.

Hopefully Tool will add a Charlotte, NC date when they come back to the us.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Maynardism

"Is it raining yet? No? Well turn that frown upside down and during deviant sex let me pee in your mouth"

"Thank you, thank you!!! Geez, it's like pulling teeth - THANK YOU!!!

Anyway, I had great seats - 100 feet from the stage. Really great show.

Now, for the funny part. Some dude gives my sister a backstage pass and she comes running back to me screaming about how she got me the greatest gift ever.....long story short, I don't have tits so they weren't letting me in to meet the band. Turns out my sister and wife get in and meet Maynard (some dude Todd escorts them into the dressing room). My sister is a country music fan and could care less who Maynard is so she asks to hold maynards dog (he has one of those small friggin paris hilton sized dogs) and he lets her hold the dog while my wife tells him how she also makes her own wine and how great the concert is - yada, yada, yada - meanwhile I am sitting in the fucking rain waiting for them.

All because I don't have tits. Anyway, great momento for my wife and sister. She said Maynard really is a short fucker.

Great show, nothing more to say - every other band is just gravy.

Words cannot explain the majesty of what i just whitnessed. First tool show for me and was it a fuckin good one. Highlight most deff was lateralus. The visuals were amazing, as well as the lights n shit. Maynard had some classic quotes, such as summin bout pissin in our mouths.....but all in all Tool is still the most fuckin amazing band today.....Thanx for the expearance.....ill write more tamora my brains still kinda rebooting from the madness

WOW best show I ever been to...Was sitting down in section 104 row S great seats and great song. Maynard was really into the show never seen him act like that...Justin was going nuts too...Adam not really much...Setlist was sick, they tossed in some surprised....Couple things maynaed said, Pittsburg was louder which i doubt...asking the people on the lawn if it was raining, and was just awesome seeing the guys get in front of the stage at the end and hug, and wave for a good 5 min to the crowd..Seen Tool 3 times before and this was by far the most upbeat ever

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

i wish i could have been drunk for this show, when i'm sober i have too much anxiety and can't enjoy it as much. it was awesome, especially Lateralus :) the sound was amazing the whole time (especially Maynard's singing, it was so LOUD)! and all the purple and turquoise lights :O (my favorite colors!) if i would have had the drunkenness i had at the 3 shows i went to on the mini-tour, combined with tonight's show, it might have been the best Tool show i've been to since my 1st or 2nd on the Lateralus tour (and nothing beats that tour, ever)
one day in this lifetime, i will have someone to go to Tool shows with. one day....

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

the setlist was more like this, but i might have one or two out of order:

Stinkfist
Jambi
46 + 2
The Pot
Schism
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Wings For Marie
10,000 Days
Lateralus
Vicarious
Ænema

(it seems it was almost exactly as the Cleveland show)

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

great show... not the best but up there of the 10+ Ive seen.. I felt the whole lost keys/rosetta stoned and then wings for marie and 10K days really brought the show to a grind for a bit... rosetta stoned was good and so was 10K days but live they are so hard to play with any degree of quality it takes away from the show.. I would have loved to hear something like third eye and something off undertow in their place... I realized on the way home they essentially played almost the entire 10K days album. All that was missing was right in two which Ive seen during the mini tour. Light show was cool, sound was great, lasers were different. Bigger screens behind the band would have cool and I still think the best place to see a tool show is in the pit.. I was about 8 to 10 bodies away from the stage in the center. an occasional mosh pit would break out but overall it was fairly reserved. Except for the really annoying guy in the beginning who was so out of it and annoying everyone. He was moshing around near me and ended up hitting me in the stomach, when he bent over for something my fist accidentally hit him in the face and that was the end of him.. No one around us complained while he crawled away with a rather large lip :~)

Cant wait for another chance to see the band. Ive seen every tour since lollapalozza 93 at least once. They never disappoint.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Awesome show.

The crowd was a bit disappointing no one sang or danced or anything, well where I was sitting anyway. The guy next to me didn't move or anything the whole show, I think he clapped once otherwise hands in pockets. Everyone got going for aenima, but who cares by then the show's over.

The setlist did not include intolerence, why are people lying, setlist was the same as previous shows, see the pittsburgh thread.

Some maynardisms: started with "ahamina ahamina", "pittsburgh was louder, hell cleveland was louder", "Is it raining yet? That's unfortunate so turn that frown upside down and act like we're having divient sex and I'm peeing in your mouth", "thank you goodnight, thank you goodnight, thank you goodnight, like pulling fuckin teeth".

Highlights were 46&2 and lateralis. Even though I have seen both of these songs live a few times they were especially awesome tonight.

The lasers and smoke were pretty cool, some people have bagged on it but it worked for me.

That's how I saw it from sec 202 row L.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

I though Maynard said: "Goodbye! Goodbye! Geez, it's like pulling teeth."

Just before Aenima: "The exit's that way" or something along those lines...

And the usual "Pittsburg was louder, hell Cleveland was louder"

The "is it raining yet part" is correct.

How about jsut before the pot when the beer cups were thrown on stage and maynard walked over with a towel, got down, and cleaned it off, then proceeded to flip the crowd off. I thought for sure we were going to miss some lyrics...

Rosetta Stoned was funny as shit, espeically the "It's gotta be, dead head, chemistry....got me seeing E-motherfucking-T." and him doing the weird hand to the face shit.

He seemed VERY animated, and hit every note damn near perfectly. 60 feet from the front, and the acoustics were flawles, could hear everything but the beginning of wings.

Goddamn, I could rant on, but I'd review the whole show if I talked about the good.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

The real setlist:

STINKFIST (extended)
THE POT (not a huge fan of this song, but it's a great live song)
FORTY-SIX & 2 (strong as always)
JAMBI (very strong, don't know why people don't like this song)
SCHISM (extended, completely insane)
LOST KEYS / ROSETTA STONED (can't get enough of this combo)
WINGS FOR MARIE / 10,000 DAYS (the lasers were interesting)
LATERALUS (not much to add to this one, or to the entire encore)00
VICARIOUS
ÆNEMA

The show was OK, the Tweeter Center BLOWS. Sat in Section 200 and everyone decided they had to stand on their chairs, even 6'2" cocksuckers who didn't really need to, but did anyway. Still can't figure out the cowboy hat on BROKEBACK MAYNARD...His voice seemed a bit sketchy at points, especially during "Forty-six & 2," but nothing terrible. The setlist should have a few more older songs in it, but with the length of these songs, I can see where time would become a problem. The three-song encore is a genius selection, though. Next, Wilkes-Barre and a garbage fucking venue, the Wachovia Arena. Jesus Christ, I fucking hate Pennsylvania.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

It would be marvelous if the people giving the reviews of all these amazing shows TOOL is putting on for us were more concentrated to the ACTUAL PERFORMANCE.... there are quite a few great reviews but it seems for the most part they are always about "the pit", or "that guy", etc etc etc....

the weeks leading up to the show tonight i looked to the reviews of past shows for this tour to tell me about the concert: the performances, visuals, sound, songs... the things that are of actual importance in a "review".... my opinion and view is irrelevant, i know.. but... maybe if someone out there is reading this now or in the future take it into SOME consideration.... please and thank you..

for me, this show was amazing... saw them at edgefest in barry, ontario canada to which they were the ONLY reason i was at that "fest", then for laterlus, and now this... and it was absolutely spectacular... i agree with friends that saw the detroit show... in ways in was a LITTLE disappointing in the way of the visual aspect of this show... and in this the comparison is only to TOOL and past shows, .. if it were a comparison to any other band... well, there really is no comparing to other bands.. sooo... knowing the lateralus tour i suppose maybe you can only top yourself so many times.. i do not agree with the "novelty act" comment, howeveer... i think they are few and far between in their music and their performances and it will never be novelty.. it will always be......... astounding, to say the least...

they are all incredible, intelligient, talented, uncomprimising, and stand alone bands i know of.. and i think i know a few ;)... to watch them perform is an honour and a priviledge.. really... and danny carey... wow.. wow... how do you do it? is it innate? it seems to me that it would have to be with that level of talent... no one could learn that...

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

"Hamana hamana hamana" (First Maynardism of the night)

Maynard does his best Ralph Kramden impression, and before the first note is even sung. When he came out and said this, I knew right away he was in a great mood.

I've been to many shows, and this show will be categorized as "The Maynard Show". The band was tight as hell, as always, but MAYNARD WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD. Very animated, talkative...and his fucking voice was amazing. No residual effects of his illness were evident.

I was in the lawn section, and just as they came on at 9:16pm...it started to fucking pour! "Stinkfist" is, with the exception of Third Eye, their best opener by far. From the lawn section, the sound and mixing was perfect...besides being drenched, i'm actually glad I was in the lawn area, cause it probably would have been too loud and perhaps distorted sounding any closer.

After Stinkfist, Maynard said...is it raining yet? and he repeated this a few times through the show. At one point he said:

"It's raining huh? That sucks. Just pretend we're having deviant sex, and that i'm pissing in your mouth" Greatest line ever from him, imo.

My highlights were from two of my "former less favorite" songs.

Schism--the sped up bridge, and what Danny does on the drums...i'm speechless.

Wings/10K days...a spiritual experience to see live.

When the band sat down before the final trio of songs...two of the bandmembers (I think Justin and Adam?) actually flicked their lighters on. Because of the rain, nobody had their lighters lit for 10k days, but once they did this...everybody flicked on...cool sight.

The rain subsided for the second two thirds of the show...but just as they played the first few notes of Aenima...the skies opened up again on cue (part of Danny's pact with Satan I think)

Only downer was the visuals...I agree that they're kind of cheesy, and that Tool doesn't really need all of that.

After the final song, the band hung out for quite a while, taking in the applause and thanking the crowd. Even Maynard hung out for an extended period...longer than I've ever seen him do before.

Amazing show...epic Tool.

On a final note...I got to the venue very early (5pm). So I walk into the Tweeter Center food court area at around 5:30 and all of a sudden I hear them doing the sound check for Stinkfist. So I just continue walking towards the seating area, with the music getting louder and louder. I'm walking by security left and right...waiting for someone to say something...and nobody is stopping me. I climb the few steps up to the seating area...and voila...theres Tool!! I managed to watch them play Stinkfist for about two minutes before one of the stage security guys right next to Maynard notices me and starts waving his arms like crazy for another security dude. The whole band looked right at me...awesome, LOL. They escorted me from the area, but didn't make a big deal of it. It was like Tool was playing for me personally for about two minutes!

Damn I'm tired.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

All I can say is WOW.

Its been almost 10 years since I saw Tool last at the Electric Factory, Nov 96. Its been a long time coming and it was well worth it. Unfortuneatly I was stuck on the lawn almost in the middle of the ony 2 pits on the entire lawn. Between that, the pouring rain and being crushed up against a railing by the dumb ass moshers, those were the only downers of the show for me. Besides that, awesome experience. Back in 96, Maynard was sick and his voice wasn't 100%, not last night. Very strong. Danny's magic on the drums during the extended bridge of Schism was amazing. During Anema, a friend of mine who had a front row ticket let me have it. It took alittle while but I weaved my way up to front. Damn! I knew what I was missing during the rest of the show. Got the see the boys up close for the first time in 10 years. The sound was great, even though the Tweeter doesn't have the greatest acousitics. I liked the fouling around at the end between them and the hug was cool. Hopefully they'll come around again soon. Can't wait years to see them again.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

They went on @ about 9:22 and finished up at about 10 after 10. Almost two hours, but not quite. The later setlists posted are in correct order. Wings/ 10KD was really good live, better than expected.

Maynard = more entertaining than some of the past times I have seen. He loves his wranglers and shirtless action. I think I saw someone else term this as "Brokeback Maynard"

On a few songs, it either sounded like Justin had his bass turned way up, or tuned down. It was thick and gritty.

Good show, I hope I can see Danny better on Saturday, in DC.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Isis only did 5 songs..... not bad, not familiar with them.....

Let me start by saying TOOL were TIGHT. I didnt hear a mistake all night.
Not a single voice crack, not a bad note..... INCREDIBLE!!!!!

The lights drop and the crowd goes bananas...
I was in row T, front and center (102)

Maynard comes out wearing a black ATF jacket, Cowboy hat, and they rip right
into STINKFIST with the extended section. Visuals were simple... mostly
blobs of color.

They next get into THE POT.
The visuals start to appear just behind Maynard. Visions of smoke and
weird bodies swaying. Actual smoke begins to fill the room... red and
yellow lights swing through the crowd. Maynard loses the jacket and the hat...

Next was FORTY-SIX & 2 (so glad they played it) One of my favorite songs....
Cant really remember the visuals, I think it was the evolution visuals.... dinosaur characters, morphing into lizards, into monkeys, into men... but that couldve
been during another song.... my eyes were locked on Danny.... AMAZING!!!!

JAMBI: Perfection. Not only one of the strongest performances, but the visuals were incredible!!!! Hollowed head made of pulsing red veins, a woman with
veins in her temples and a glowing third eye... Adam lit with a bright light
during his solo...

SCHISM: like most of the other shows on this tour, the tempo was slightly
slower until the guitar breakdown.... sped double time.... The visuals were
basically the music video, but when it sped up, images from the video
flashed faster and faster.

LOST KEYS / ROSETTA STONED: Fucking great!!!!! Visuals were the best part!!!
Video of some guy (Dave?) wandering down a desert road.... morphing into an alien... Alien schematic diagrams... visions of UFO's building the pyrimads....
Lights... Smoke... INSANE!!!!

WINGS FOR MARIE / 10,000 DAYS: The mood switches gears.... Maynard puts
his hat and jacket back on and positions himself behind a keyboard.....
AND THE LASERS BEGIN!!!!! Definently sucks you into the experience....
Visuals of fractals... simple and effective...

***The song ends... the entire band come together at center stage,
and take a seat together, they pull out their lighters and the crowd
follows.... Felt like a candlelight vigil for Judith Marie.... Maybe a moment
of silence after a powerful piece of music.***

LATERALUS: Maynard talks to the crowd, gets everyone screaming and the
stage FUCKING EXPLODES WITH LIGHT!!!! Lasers, and lattice of lights
appear behind the band, beams of color.... White static visuals and
smoke!!!!! Ripped the fucking roof off the place!!!!! Couldve been the
greatest song of the night... (maybe 46&2)

VICARIOUS: a short humming whirling segue starts the song... Visuals of
mouths and tounges licking eyeballs.... Sounded much like the CD version....
enhanced by an incredible grid of lasers projected from the back of the room...
ten feet above our head.

ÆNEMA: That breathing gets the crowd going.... Visuals of the video, with a
few others spliced in.... GREAT END TO A GREAT SHOW!!!!

NOW............................................... ..
The only bummer of the night was the dummy in row R.... some dumb whore was standing on her chair ruining everyones view.... luckily for me she was just in the
edge of my view... slightly obstructing my view of Adam.... Security warned her
once, but minutes later she jumped back on her seat..... Then of course the fans
behind her took things into their own hands..... flying beer cups and snot filled
spit covered her back after she gave everyone the finger.....
Her pussy-ass boyfriend walked her out after ruining two songs for the fans to
my left.... GOOD!!!

Have fun cleaning spit off yourself, you dumb whore!!!!! I loved the animals
that put her in her place!!!! I hope you guys are here on the board!!! BRAVO!!!!

Best show ive ever seen!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

This is the best I've seen MJK with Tool. I was a little worried since he's been sick recently, but have no worries, he is back to full strength. Every scream and every line was great. The sound was great from 5th row center.

And loved the light show. Favorite part was the rotating planes of laser light. Very cool.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

After tonight, I'd rank the Tool shows I've seen as follows:

1) 11/23/96 @ The Electric Factory - Philadelphia, PA
2) 05/20/01 @ The Hammerstein Ballroom - New York City, NY
3) 09/28/06 @ The Tweeter Center - Camden, NJ <===============
4) 07/12/97 @ The Tweeter Center - Camden, NJ (Lollapalooza)
5) 07/11/98 @ The Tweeter Center - Camden, NJ (Ozzfest)
6) 05/17/06 @ The Tower Theater - Upper Darby, PA
7) 09/27/01 @ The First Union Center - Philadelphia, PA
8) 08/12/02 @ The Sovereign Bank Arena - Trenton, NJ
9) 10/29/02 @ The First Union Spectrum - Philadelphia, PA

I'd sworn off arena/amphitheater shows a long time ago after being completely turned off by it all during an apex of frustration seeing Radiohead at the Tweeter Center a few years ago. Overpaid security, overpriced concessions, too much access for fairweather/non-fans, terrible acoustics, lack of intimacy, etc. etc. etc. There are so many reasons. In spite of myself, though, I couldn't really handle missing Tool during a tour where they'd be playing the 10,000 Days suite, so I forked up some eBay money (barely above face value) and took my cousin Dave, another huge Tool fan. Section 100, Row AA, Seats 7 and 8.

Spectacular. Really, really spectacular. The crowd around us was surprisingly unobnoxious, there was little-to-no talking around us during the 10,000 Days suite, and nobody threw up on me (that, especially, was awesome).

They were even respectful during Isis, who I thought were exceptionally good. One of the best opening bands I've seen maybe ever. They're coming to the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia, PA on October 1st, too, to play solo. I even knew a few folks who went to this show for the sole purpose of seeing Isis. Don't underestimate Isis' fanbase -- they've got a whole slew of fans, including Tool.

Back to Tool -- The highlight for me was definitely the 10,000 Days suite. I've seen Tool enough that the songs off of Ænima and Lateralus are definitely enjoyable, but seeing material performed that I haven't seen live is always an extra treat. The same goes for The Pot, which they did not play at the Tower Theater show due to Maynard's illness at the time (substituting it with Right In Two).

I enjoyed the light show. Of course they don't "need it" any more than they "need" the screens surrounding the stage -- it's just additional fun/eye-candy. The music speaks for itself. The colored lasers are just accessories. I don't think they take away from anything.

I agree with several of the previous posters about Maynard's animation. He was more active than I've seen him since, literally, 1998. He was obviously in a stellar mood, even intentionally skipping out on singing the "weeping shades of indigo" line in The Pot to show Adam some piece of paper and laughing with him about it before continuing on to the next line.

The sped-up breakdown in Schism made the song so much better, being that I don't really like the song all that much. It's a nice improvement.

I'm still surprised that 10 years later, in an age where live shows are downloadable at will, crowds still miss the gun on the timing of the "I'll keep digging 'til I feel something" line in Stinkfist.

Nearly every song had a Pink Floyd-esque intro to them that I've never heard before. That was nice. They were all playing with soundscapes.

Danny Carey is ridiculously ridiculous in his ridiculousosity. I can't believe all of those sounds come out of only four limbs.

Tips for those attending future shows:

01) You don't have to wear a Tool shirt to the Tool show. We know you like Tool. You're there. It's cool.

02) You don't have to shout "TOOL" in-between songs. We all know who it is, and if we don't, we can read the words on our ticket. Instead, shout out other bands you like so people can take notes and raid file-sharing networks when they get home. "That guy shouted out Danny Partridge, right? I bet he's all about chakra alignment and pineal glands."

03) You don't have to shout "MAYNARD" in-between songs. That's a weird thing to scream. Next time, scream out your favorite food. "PANCAKES!" That'd be hilarious. Screaming out "MAYNARD" is sort of second-hand-embarrassment-inducing.

04) If you're driving home and you're starving and you see a Checkers still open in the distance, KEEP DRIVING. Oh boy, will I defile the office toilet later.

ATTN: T3rdEyeVisual -- I believe I was standing right behind you. You were in section 100, row Z, seats 1 through 8 or so? I remember being excited for you when I saw the backstage passes the girl brought over. Sorry to hear about the misfortune of being denied due to your testicles. I didn't say hi to you or anything, but thanks for being part of the good crew in our section. Also, if it was you, nice Eagles hat. Philadelphia: 38, Green Bay: 17.

ADDENDUM: My mother was there, too, in a different section with my sister. This was her 7th or 8th Tool show. She posts here as "mattsmom". She's SUPER AWESOME.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Well I saw them at the tower for the Mini tour and this concert absolutley blew it away. I was dead center row S and the music was very loud but very clear the bass shook your body along with the music and I actually enjoyed the visuals quite a bit. The way the lasers looked like the sky during 10,000 days was really awesome.

Lateralus as always is my favorite song of the show, but I was very impressed with vicarious which is my least favorite song off the new album they really rocked out for this live though and it was awesome. Finally the way the crowd sang along for Aenima was ridiculous the amount of energy in that song blew me away and was a awesome way to close.

I think they found there final set list for the tour it all flows together nicely. Even though I would still enjoy here pushit and eulogy live.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Definitely a great show but like pretty much everyone else is saying, a large portion of the crowd sucked. Hardly anyone around me was getting into it. It seemed like they just showed up to get drunk and be obnoxious and talk. Obviously MJK noticed the lack of enthusiasm. I don't get it. The show was amazing though.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

This was my first Tool concert ever. I'm a huge fan, and this morning my neck and throat still kill, which means it was a great show. What can I say other then "Holy Fucking Shit!" And, the lazers kicked ass. Fans around us were nice...my friend lent her hoodie to this handicapped (I dont know if thats the correct term) guy when it rained, and in turn, someone else lent theirs to her. Crowd was good, music was amazing. One complaint: If you're a tall dude, and you have some height on people, plus a 4 inch high afro, theres no fucking reason to stand on the railing, so others behind you cant see. My lawn view was good enough but I mean come on. Youre tall enough, stand in the back! Its proper show ediqite (spelling?). Anyways, great show, I can die happy now.

second show in the past few months. hell of a long drive down to camden. fucking assholes in the crowd. standard setlist but AMAZING performance. the lasers were so badass and the performance of wings/10k days blew my fucking mind. I've seen a dvd or two from this tour already and was still amazed. it needs to be seen to be believed. breathtaking visuals, great sound, the whole package.

I hope they mix it up a little but for 10/6...but I'm not holding my breath. should still be wonderful, though...

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

I have to say -- how maniacally insane and fantastic!

And let me tell you, children, as an adult at the show (yes, I'm 42) -- once upon a time, many years ago, I used to get high, and drunk... and then I had children, and learned to drink only one or two beers and stop.

Here I was at Tool, wondering, "if someone passes me something will I take it?"

I didn't.

It was awesome.

AWESOME.

The lights, the lasers, the smoke -- especially the way the smoke bent the lasers. I think the best part, though, I stood there singing along with every song -- and every person in every seat around me did the same. If there was a wall in the back instead of a lawn, I think we could have tumbled it down!

AND I WAS *SOBER*!

There's a reason NOT to get loaded -- I can remember EVERY detail. It's something I won't forget anytime soon.

... and my poor daughter, away at college, she's so pissed off I went without her!! (tee heee!!

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

This was a solid show. I hadn't been following the setlists and i think that was a good thing because all teh songs were a surprise to me. i mean, i could have told you beforehand what songs they probably would have played, but the show had nice flow.

I saw them in the "barebones stage" days of '93 - '96, and most recently in 2001. I thought the 2001 show was similar but stage show was really dark. dark is good most of the time, but i think this tour's stage lighting showed that you can use bright colors and neat tricks and still be heavy as fuck.

really liked how the 3 circular lighting rigs came down during rosette stone like a spaceship. that was solid.

i had section 200 seats, so here is a little context to teh maynardisms:

(to the lawn) "Is it raining yet? that would be unfortunate." The sky peering out above the lawn was *ominous*. really cool, especially during wings for marie. around 9pm i got a call from my wife saying all of NJ had a tornado warning, but no high winds came near camden, just rain

"Thank you, goodnight" (very little applause, maynard still perfectly still) "Thank you, goodnight" (even less applause, maynard still perfectly still) "It's like pulling teeth". it really didn't seem like the crowd woke up until the encores.

agreed with many above that most people can't STFU. i set next to 2 guys (shocker), and they just talked and talked and talked. when the one guy kept leaving to piss, the other guy kept talking to me. talking to me about total nonsense! wtf! STFU ... STFU! outside of a concert, these dumbfucks must bore the piss out of everyone they talk to. STFU! i didn't pay $65 to be talked to.

otherwise a solid show start to finish. loved it.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Quick impressions:

the speeded-up break slash drum solo in Schism is re-fuggin-diculous. it's like Dan is simply up the flexing his monster chops for the helluvit.

"just pretend we're having deviant sex and i'm pissing in your mouth"

i loved the lasers, but the cloud effect would have worked better in an indoor arena. the breeze was dispersing the smoke not too far from the stage. sad cos it would have been insane to see the whole roof "covered in clouds"

i think the stage is set up for a venue with a balcony. i was way up in sec 202, but wished for a balcony up higher and closer to the stage so i could see all the visuals being projected onto the FLOOR of the stage better. still, the guys looked like they were floating in the videos -- i've never seen another band try to do that. awesome.

i looked so forward to seeing "wings" live. and it was cool BUT... it doesn't work well live. sorry but it prolly would have gone over better in a smaller place like the Tower where there would be only rabid fans in attendance. that song requires quiet and reverence and you don't get that in an arena. still, the visuals were cool and really added to the song.

Justin was OFF THE HOOK. damn! i've seen him rock out before, but last night was insane! all the hair flying, the huge STOMPS during Aenima. HELL YES! he was feeling it and sounded HOT.

wierd sound mix at times. but i could hear every instrument cleanly: it was almost dry at times. vocals were a bit muddy and down in the mix, rather like the record.

mjk looked like he was having a fun time. guess he's feeling better! when they ripped into The Pot, i knew it was going to be a good night for MJK fans

all the soundscapes between songs were killer. i like seeing TooL be a bit more loose at times instead of always being constrained by having to play synched to the visuals (and they were tight, btw -- only a couple of misses here and there, much better than the Tower)

i love seeing them have more budget for the stage show every tour. it just keeps getting bigger and more immersive. THANKS TOOL!!!

i think 10,000 days was awesome live. i don't really like the song in general ALL that much and honestly skip it often when i listen to the album but i thought it was insane live, i was very much into it and Maynard was singing SO LOUD the hair on my body was sticking up. i had the chills the whole time.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

What a great show!! The only other show that I have seen from this year was the performance in Coachella. This show was definitely better and really tight. I had an amazing time and I got a little choked up during 10,000 Days/ Wings for Marie. The vibe in that place was overwhelming. I’m so happy that they didn’t play Sober. I haven’t checked here lately to see when they last time they played it, but I was definitely pleased that they didn’t. Last night's performance only reminded me why I love this band and why I <3 Maynard. Solid performance all around.

*Those lights had me in hysterics!! I loved it!! It was like seeing T00L in Vegas. They are true rock stars. ;)

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

This was the most awesome thing I have ever seen, aside from the kid behind me that pissed on the ground, must have been...high. Lateralus was fricken awesome, and the added drum solo in schism was great. 46 and 2 is one of my favorite songs and it made me shiver hearing it. I knew maynard was feeling better when the first thing he said on stage was hummana hummana hummana. Even though it was raining i pictured deviant sex and maynard peeing in my mouth, turned that frown upside down. The lawn was the place to be. Everyone was singing the lyrics and cheering as loud as they could. Ofcourse there were assholes behind us that were moshing to everysong including wings, but I guess songs about someones mother who died that are slow are great for moshing to..assholes. The white stage and white overcoats of the roadies with the light show was amazing and gave my pink floyd loving friend goosebumps because of how pink floyd like it was. Great show guys thanks to the band for playing so hard and keeping us people out in the rain into the concert by talking to us.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

First of all, this was a fantastic show. The new stage visuals really blew me away at times. They seemed to slowly add more to the set throughout the show. I'm sure plenty will agree that when they came back from the intermission and played Lateralus, it was like sensory overload. I didn't think they were cheesy in the slightest bit.

Performance wise, they weren't perfect, but like I've heard before: Tool on a bad day is better than most bands on a great day. While I feel that Rosetta Stoned and Wings/10K days are two of my favorite Tool songs, for some reason they both sounded a bit....off. On the other hand, Jambi and The Pot were near perfect. I was really impressed with Mayanrd's ability to belt out some killer screams, despite all the wear his throat has been through. Danny was, as always, a percussion god. Justin was also very consistant the whole night, but did anyone else think that something was off with Adam's guitar? It seemed like he was having some technical difficulties. That aside, they sounded great overall.

I couldn't agree more. I've seen Tool in an "altered state" before, but the best show that I went to was when I was completely sober. Tool are mind-altering enough by themselves in my opinion.

I hate to bitch, but a drunk, belligerent fool sitting diirectly behind me in 202 almost ruined the whole show for me. Every minute I would get an ear shattering "YYEEAARRGGGHHH" in my ear (even during 10K days for christ sake) He also felt the need to thrash about in his seat and flail his arms around, hitting me a few times. I say this in hopes that I may dissuade someone else from acting this way in a SEAT. Don't get me wrong. When the music starts I am standing up, my head is banging and my body is moving, but when when you're in a seat you have to be respectful to the people around you. If you want to get physical, you're in the wrong place. Luckily, my love for this band helped me ignore the jerk behind me. Anyways...

You'll never find better performers, and I can't wait to see them in Hartford next week.

Re: 2006/09/28 - Camden, NJ - Tweeter Center

Section 102 row z on the aisle..... center stage--- excellent view of it all

Various maynardisms..... w/ major correction

to start the show ralph kramden-wise was classic.. I agree with the previous person who said that ... we were in for a good show.

MJK: "Is it raining out there"
crowd: roars yeah fuck yeah
MJK: " This.... is unfortunate. Let's Pretend. Pretend that we are having wild deviant sex, and that I am.... peeing in your mouth."

MJK: Thank you. Good night.
Crowd: roars
MJK: uhh... Thank you. good night.
crowd: roars on
MJK: Thank you. Good Night. You thieves.

Right before Aenima

MJK: "ok... Peace. The fuck. Out "

I almost walked out during Rosetta Stoned.... I thought my right eardrum was ready to pop. Before Aenima .. can anybody vouch for this? they were noodling around on stage and i heard adam mess around with the first 2-3 notes for right in two ... justin got up ... and they both look toward maynard who seemed to wave them off an proceed to aenima .. just wondering... Plus thank god for Tool Babes, i don't know where you hide out... but i gotz to find out. Plus he sang every lyric to Aenima .. he did not repeat himself. Danny is human fucking metronome.
