Wow...what an inventive post. Congrats (sarcasm).

Next you'll tell me Danny doesnt even play jazz on the side. Maybe you'll tell me that TOOL isnt waiting on Maynard, but just sort of shooting the shit for 6 years? Or maybe you'll be straight with yourself and admit the band has essentially become a money making machine based on lazer shows without musical ideas? TOOL is Spinal Tap without the Sex Farm. Truly sad its come to this

Doesn't sound like you'd listen to anything I'd say anyway, but anyway:

Danny plays in Volto! who play Jazz Fusion.
Tool aren't waiting on Maynard.
I've never denied that Tool aren't a money making machine, but they have been since 96.

Then what is TOOL waiting on? As a writing band that produces music. MAYNARD!! That being said, I'm well aware that MJK has other interests...and thats fine and well, but to consider TOOL an active artistic enitity, they are no longer relevant. I can only listen to Aenima so long before I realize that was written 16 years ago. I think the band needs to come straight and tell us they dont intend to produce music. They intend to go on another tour off of 10,000 days 8 years later, with no intention of doing anything else

I never said I had an inside source. Toolband has gone on for years now commenting on the guys writing at The Loft, it stands to reason the hangup revolves around Maynards indifference. If we are to believe, and I'm not sure at this point, that another festival show and/or mini tour is in the works, why would anyone continue to go to these shows with the same set lists time after time? It is not out of the realm of reason to think they'll never produce another album. I dont need to cite a source to express an opinion, and it doesnt appear my opinion came out of left field as I read back.

Brubeck was off topic, but related to progressive music. Many of the odd time signatures prog bands have embraced since there was such a thing as prog came directly from his ingenuity. Thats all I was saying.

Maynard can do what he wants. He's an eclectic, talented guy. That part doesnt bother me in the least...but I could do without the insinuations that another album is around the corner when its not. I'm more dissapointed than angry. I know they have more in the safe ready to be busted out, but it takes 4 to tango

I don't understand that reasoning? Why is Maynard singled out? He's the only one with a proven track record of releasing things, yet he's to blame for Tool not releasing anything? I honestly believe that if Maynard wasn't interesting in moving forward with Tool, he would have quit by now. I doubt he has the time to dick around with something that no longer interests him.

Because they enjoy seeing Tool live? I know I would, and a lack of a new album would make no difference.

The new album, when it comes out, will be very good. These things take time--these guys are not getting younger, and they're being careful to keep the meet their own standards. I am confident of this.

Greatest Drummers Of All Time...the Blair post. Wasnt sure where I could start that thread.

Danny as #7 is fair although I would put him higher. Peart is the usual #1, but I'd put Bozzio in front of him. Portnoy is too high at #8 because he doesnt have a style, and Marco Minneman is way low on this list. His playing with Steven Wilson's solo live shows are amazing. Gavin Harrison wasnt even mentioned, as he should be top 20.

Not sure where you'd put your list. Danny in my mind is top 3, but I'm not sure how anyone defines their lists...totally subjective. In terms of artistry and redefining drumming in the rock world...Carey has to be in that discussion.

**Edit...greatest ROCK drummers of all time**

That's an awfully presumptuous thing to say. There is a lot of excellent music to be had outside of Tool, old or new. Not to mention that's quite subjective. Also why the comment about "interesting lives"?

Also, half the people complaining ITT used to be in the fanboy camp, when did you guys switch bandwagons and get all self-righteous?

Man oh Man am I glad I passed on that.

Ive been working on Los Vargos the past few months and was going to schedule a "work "trip to see this show. Glad I didn't.

Went to see "X" in SF instead - and those geezers KILLED it.

All I've heard is that Rolling Stones had Coachella dates on their mobile app (which has since been removed I think).

I can't see Tool playing Coachella until they have an album out to be honest. I know they have played Coachella pre-album in the past, but I think Coachella is much bigger now, and with a new album there's not enough hype behind Tool for them to headline.

I don't agree with that last part- if Tool wants to play Coachella, they'll headline. They're one of the few bands that doesn't need any new recorded material out or much hype to easily fill an arena (last tour a good example). The festival has changed some but Tool would still be a highly coveted headliner and a huge draw.

That said, I don't think odds favor it. But this band's unpredictability is part what makes them interesting. I wouldn't be overly surprised if it happened. Just not counting on it.

I keep hearing the Stones rumor. Other rumors for Coachella

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Stone Roses
Queens of the Stone Age

Take all with giant grain of salt. These are bands I'd personally like to see in the line up. I'd add My Bloody Valentine too but I don't want to look totally ridiculous later.

I tend to agree with HB on this one. The last arena tour had plenty of shows that did not sell out, I think Tool has less drawing power than in the past plus they don't have the hipster demo anymore.

Im almost thinking that new music has become a "must" to be booked at Coachell these days. Unless you are the Rolling Stones.

PS if the Stones play, I'm selling my tix for 3K each and going to Ireland for a month..

or back to Oz for beers with hellboy.

I know for a fact that Charlotte NC on Feb 4,2012 and Atlanta GA Feb. 8,2012 shows sold out. For I was at both of those and picked up my tickets at will call and both of those shows sold out. And I am pretty sure that all the other shows were sold out also. If not sold out they were within a few tickets from being sold out.

The only thing I will note from my experience seeing APC live 2 years ago is that "Counting Bodies Like Sheep..." was absolutely fucking stunning live. Easily the best (and most surprising) song they played.

But yeah, glad I decided against a Vegas trip for APC.

Annihilation, When the Levee Breaks, Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie, and Counting Bodies Like Sheep... are the only ones that sound good live. The others need to be dropped. So glad I got to see APC back in the day.

Yea, I still get a warm fuzzy whenever I walk by my signed APC poster for the Avalon dates where they played the albums in order. I'm sure I would have enjoyed this Vegas show, but no Judith or Thinking Of You these days is especially puzzling.

It was a strange one off show anyways.. I would assume it would either suck balls or be once in a lifetime.

Coachella announcement soon.. maybe Tool is holding out any new news until after the lineup is leaked, I mean announced.

grasping at straws..

Can anyone here read Japanese?
Just wondering if Blair put the dates of the other shows around Ozzfest on that poster he just re-posted.

We're right on top of the Coachella announcement. If Tool is on there, it's gonna be a spectacular feeling! Unfortunately, no buzz at all around like that. Instead, I am already hearing things like The Killers and fun. are in there. Yawn. On the upside, BRMC announced a full tour today. First show listed is April 21st in SF. Hmmmm.
