Well there definitely were not any listening parties. Then, I think, Kabir alluded to it's meaning later as being that it represented four concerts before they head to Europe. Clearly they are playing more than four, so I believe we can dismiss that too.

From a practical point of view it's a terrible flaw, it certainly looks like fool at first look, even more if you've never heard tool or seen anything about them. If i didn't know TOOL, i guess i would have trouble reading it... tool or fool...
For example, with some modern san-serif fonts, you don't use a lowcase "l" for a logo in certain cases. Let's say the brand is LEGO, if you write it lowercase culd be mistaken for IEGO (lego).
Personaly i think the design itself is very apealing and i like it a lot.
But for every one who knows TOOL is easilly identifiable. So i guessed they noticed it but decided to let it go. I certainly like the new one.
