I would say that almost half of the shows Ive seen to I went solo. (then again I am OGT)
Even if I do bring a friend/wife/girlfriend, I usually gravitate to my own spot anyway.

I went to the Orlando show solo and loved it! Don't have any friends that are into tool the way i am, i mean they say "oh, yea tool, they are awesome" but they are just radio tool listeners, not OGT like me (ha ha).
I didn't want to go see tool with someone who was just gonna treat the show like your average rock concert......because it is definitely not just a "rock concert"!!!
This was my first time seeing tool and i knew i was gonna go totally crazy when they hit the stage, it was nice to go and be able to find my own groove and enjoy the show my way.
The only thing i regret is not going to the Ft. Lauderdale show too!

on the 10K tour I hit all the Florida stops, a little mini tour. I had just purchased a new Mustangt GT and put some serious Florida back road miles on it!
We got The Pot in Tampa, somebody pissed May May off in FT Lauderdale and much to my surprise, they KILLED in Jax. Orlando was a blur.

For my first show, I went with some people, but they hung out away from me, which I was happy about. I went by myself to the Charlotte show and am very glad I did. I don't want to talk to anybody when I am there.

My first Tool show was on tbe Lateralus tour here in Chicago. I was so blown away that I went to hOio and the Quad Cities shows after that. After that I became obsessed with everything about them.

I was completely drawn in after hearing Stinkfist on the radio. Then my first show was at Lollapalooza '97. I went with my pops but ditched him for closer seats that were empty. They sucked me in and my life was forever changed.
My dad, not so much, as he doesn't even remember going.

Saw tool for first time in 97 at the Convention center in Asbury Park NJ. I remember MJK making a comment that he hoped we all locked our car doors or somethin. (bad area) I was wasted which was a mistake as I wasn't able to absorb all the stimuli produced during a tool show. Never went beyond buzzed for any other show and it works well for me.

YES WE DO!! Unfortunately, I'm the only chick I know who loves tool. I love going to shows and seeing my own kind. I've never fit the mold when it comes to music, so I'm kind of used to it. It's very personal to me and I don't have the need to push my music on others. I actually flew from NJ to Colorado by myself to see the Red Rocks shows in 2010. I just said screw it and went out there alone and vulnerable (but excited as HELL) I didn't care that I was alone and met some really cool people. Did I mention that I have a huge airplane phobia and never flew before. I overcame this to see tool! Yes tool chicks rule!

I've seen them by myself twice. Easily my two favorite shows. Not the best two shows I've seen, but the most fun I've had at Tool shows.
My first Tool show I went to on my own...which completely set that tone. Each time I've seen them since with friends has been great...but you feel more like you're taking your new girlfriend to a dinner party with your parents and your crazy uncle. Or out with your best friends the first time. You know you're going to have a great time. You just hope they get it...and some of your attention inevitably goes in that direction.

I flew to those shows by myself too!
But not quite as far as you did, and I had no phobia to overcome (I fly every week.)
My first time seeing Tool was back at Lolla 93, we were there to see AIC (RIP LS) and thank goodness we were there in time to see Tool open the main stage. I had heard Opiate, but was not prepared for what we saw. A metal band with a mowhawked lead singer? wow.

My first Tool show was in 1996 and the band was late to come out and Maynard was in his boxer shorts and painted blue from head to toe. His excuse for being late was they were playing monopoly back stage and lost track of time. This show was great the only time I have "Jimmy" performed. My second time seeing Tool was epic. It was Lollapalooza 97 and I took some really good acid and it was at The Gorge.

I don't know if this is the right place for this comment, but its the best place I can find. I've seen a lot of talk and debate over the past few years on here about where Maynard's heart is and if he is over Tool. Well I finally got the opportunity to check out Puscifer last weekend and I have to say, that is where his heart is. It was an absolutely amazing show in which he was 100% committed.
In my heart, its odd for me to say that with just having seen the Dallas show, which was arguably the best one I have seen. But the more I think about it, the more it is a reality. I'm not blaming the guy at all, every artist has to evolve, I just hope that we get one more solid Tool album before he rolls all of his talents into Puscifer and Caducius.

I will say this. Puscifer is his new "toy" and one where he has absolute creative control over every aspect of the machine. It's human nature that he would gravitate towards this newer project.
I for one think that MJK has never been that stoked on big rock shows and arena (plus) gigs. I bet he sees Puscifer as a way to extend his singing career as opposed to warapping it up.

Oh man the Gorge is an awesome venue. If Tool ever plays there again you have to go. It is in the middle of nowhere so paying the extra for camping is the best bet. I seen Tool there twice, 1997 and 2006. I really want to see them at Red Rocks. I heard that venue is amazing as well.

Holy Cow! I was just talking to my boyfriend about the venue in Washington which I have a calling to see tool there, but I couldn't think of the name of it!!! thank you guys for reminding me. If they play there for the next tour, I will spend every dime I have to go. BTW, red rocks is awesome, but I found that you need to get really close to the front to hear the sound the best. But it's so beautiful with the rocks and rising moon behind the stage. What a memory!

I agree about the venues. He seems more comfortable in an intimate setting. I saw Puscifer at the Apollo theatre in NYC couple years ago. When he sang The Humbling River I could've died-you could hear a pin drop in that place. It truly was beautiful. Just like in life, there are all kinds of situations we have to face and having thousands of people supporting and cheering for you in a huge venue isn't the worst thing in the world to deal with.

I tend to agree, but he did two things that kind of stood out to me, albeit minor.
At the beginning of the show, everyone was sitting down taking in "Little Monsters", when it wrapped up, Maynard came to the mic and said "I don't know what you've heard about these shows, but you can stand the fuck up" Seemed like he wanted to turn it into a rock show.
Secondly, he did the exact same thing he does at TOOL shows... Before the last chorus of "Tumbleweed", Maynard walked to the front of the stage, threw up the deuces, and walked right off. It was exactly like TOOL shows where he has to be the first one to leave even if its before the show is completely over.

Wow that is crazy that you were just thinking about that when we were discussing it. Thanks for the heads up about Red Rocks. If Tool ever goes there again I will def be going there. As for The Gorge anytime a great band plays there I try to go. It is only a 2 1/2 drive for so that is great. The scenery there is beautiful also. The Columbia River is behind the stage and mountains all around it. Simply Amazing. I saw A Perfect Circle open up for NIN there back in 2000. Great Show.

RR is a sweeeeet spot there is no doubt. I'm a little critical of since I feel the love for it is a bit exaggerated , the top one third is very echo prone, and I tease the Denver hipsters mercilessly. :)
But if you are in the center, say 30th row or less, there are few better places than the Red Red Rocks.

Interesting to hear, first time I've ever heard someone with that opinion. Never been there myself so I don't know what it is really like. It is very true that there is a A LOT of hype about it. People travel from the bay all the time just to see shows there. A lot of people say it the "best venue in the world".

for sheer ambiance and vibe, Yes. For an overall concert experience (sound, visuals, facilities) No.

Two reasons in out of control stoked about seeing Puscifer again this weekend:
1) Drooling over Carina Round
2) Hearing Telling Ghosts live for the first time.

I'm only a part-time member in the Cult of Maynard, but GREAT CESAR'S GHOST the Puscifer show was STUNNING.
WOW.
There is no doubt in my mind that Puscifer is where his heart is.
I have been hard on Puscifer (I saw the first three 3 shows EVER, so I can be considered OGP) especially after the Countryfied show they did a couple of years ago..but the band has gelled perfectly. May May has found the right blend of humour to support the music rather than stomp all over it and his chemistry with Carina Round is fairly remarkable.

Puscifer was awesome in San Francisco! Great venue, less than 1,000, no seat is a bad seat. Carina Round's solo stuff is really good. Enjoyed her show. Great of her, Matt M and Jeff F to do double duties. Puscifer is a really good show. I really dig the music they make. Some people just showed up for MJK, but not really into the music they make. They stuff they play is really groovy, very danceable, just totally different than the style of Tool or APC. Having been to the last show in December, I remembered how Maynard commented "this guy has the right idea, you are allowed to stand if you fucking want to" speech after only one person was standing despite people behind him bitching to sit down. So this time around I decided to get my groove on as soon as the "The Green Valley" (opening song) got grooving. As expected, some people yelled at me to sit down, but sure enough Maynard made the same "you're allowed to stand if you want" speech after the 3rd song, then everyone in the theater stood up. (I know this is a debate that people like to argue about here, but I do hold my stance in that you are allowed to grove to music at a concert...it's a concert).
Anyway, the music was amazing. I like how they play completely different versions of their songs, particularly the ones from "V is for Vagina". They played all the new album, but not in order. The video footage was awesome. A lot of the Arizona desert landscape. It went perfectly with the music, which a lot is about the beauty and power of the arizona desert. Would like to acknowledge Carina Round, Mat Mitchell, Matt McJunkins, Jeff Friedl, and Josh Eustis (and of course MJK) for all being exceptional musicians. It was a great performance by all. Wont post the exact setlist, but is easy to find on the net for any of those interest.

Still bitter I wasn't able to make any of the Puscifer dates this time around. Grrrrr. Somehow I glossed right over the Baton Rouge date too which is close enough. And it was on a Saturday! Never again...

That's no chance the album will be released by October. They'll have barely finished mixing and mastering it by then (presuming recording goes on schedule).
Anyone expecting a 2012 release is setting themselves up for disappointment imo...

Hope for October...not expect. Damn after waiting over 6 years, what are a few more months anyway? Question: What do you guys think about future albums?- Do you think this is the last one?
