You have to be joking, right? I mean, seeing those scrolls unfurl during the Lateralus tour is one of my favorite Tool concert moments. And the way Alex painted up MJK before the Radio City show was incredible. Hell, even if you aren't a big Alex Grey fan, if they are together to plan album art it would mean we are that much closer to the new album. I hope so. Very much so.

Not joking. I am an Alex fan, but no more Alex. Time for somebody new.

The artwork doesn't matter at this point. I'm just hoping that new Tool doesn't sound anything like new APC.

I don't have many fucks to give about the artwork. If it's Alex and the art is as good as Lateralus, I'm cool. His work on 10k felt like going through the motions though.

Yes. The article is on reddit in full and Kerrang is full of shit. They took Danny's comment that the next album will another step in the "evolution" of Tool and their sound out of context, just to slap a headline on the front cover that makes it look like they are the first ones to get that name of the new album.

Well, I'm back! So there is that, I guess. Excited a milestone was hit with new material. Fingers crossed we get to hear it soon.

I think most of us are, but between Maynard saying hes 100% done with all but one song, and adam saying they are going into the studio to record in march, i figured there may be at least a shred of optimism around here. I should have remembered when i was posting though hahaha

Quick, everyone act optimistic.

I don't know that there is anymore proof to wait for. In spite of fans convinced that tool actively try to mess with their fans; they've been pretty forthcoming and honest about the progress of the album to date. Given that in the past few months we've gone from the same old writing/touring mode to;

Danny and Justin saying they think it will be out before the end of the year.

Adam saying the music is done with lyrics coming in hard.

Maynard confirming he's working on his part with more confidence that the end is finally approaching.

An interview suggesting that a new video has been shot for a new song from a director OTHER than Adam, to be released by the end of this year.

A handful of tool's inner circle of friends posting publicly that they've heard the band play the music in it's entirety and have raved about it.

And now Adam saying that they will hit the studio in March and he's really excited about the lyrics coming in...

That's a lot of very specific and atypical activity that should confirm that if all goes well with this supposed final track, we're nearing the end of writing and an actual release is approaching. I think that's plenty to be optimistic about.

It's just that this forum/site barely has a heartbeat. Most of us read/see/hear these things from other sources and expell their commentary there rather than here. But if you give it a little nudge down the hill, it should start rolling.

I guess i just wont fully believe it until it's actually released.

The thing about their circle of friends commenting on it is probably the most persuasive point for me.

Question about the Lateralus picture vinyl....

Is the picture of the vinyl what made it the "limited edition?"

Considering that there was word that they were going to remaster and re-release all of their albums on Vinyl, I was thinking about never actually playing the picture disc vinyl and just having it for the sake of collection. I heard reports of people having playback issues due to the pictures. Has anyone experienced this? I'd rather not play it at all and have keep it in perfect condition if it doesn't play well.

...and all the emotion coming from them during all of these updates is charged excitement. They're feeling good about it. It's gonna happen; maybe by next month if we see them following through with their studio commitment, it'll start to feel more real.

btw; this is the guy that has supposedly had complete creative freedom on a new tool video.

I'm not sure it's clear whether or not it was a video for Opiate, The Pot or a new song. But given that it's allegedly coming out the end of this year, my hunch is either new song (60%) or Opiate(40%).

After the new album does drop (let's say hypothetically and optimistically this early summer). Let's get predictions on the following:

1. How long after the album drops will the mini warm up tour begin and when will full blown arena shows start?

2. Will the touring setlist be as previous album tours? 90% new album ?

3. Will they tour the album as long as they did Lateralus and 10K days? On and off for ~2+ years?

I think all Lateralus vinyl came with a sticker "limited edition". I see it for sale pretty regularly in stores so not sure how limited it really is.

The real limited edition ones are the signed copies that were sold on Toolarmy. These ones have the bands signature embedded on each record, making each one unique (some more unique than others, as members of the banded added some pictures and symbols spruce some up).

Honestly depending on the length of the album i wouldn't be shocked for it to be played in its entity, which could take up most of the show given their old age. I think optimistically the album wont be out until early fall. Sept-October.

This would line up with Maynard schedule with wine. The last couple of years hes toured pretty extensively post halloween. So i would expect that schedule to stick.

Now my entirely way too optimistic thoughts are that maybe they bust off one of the tracks for one of the shows they are playing in May? I know its Tool and that probably wont be the case, but they seem eager to play new stuff, so i am hopeful at least for maybe an extended descending lmao.

I think hearing a new song in it's entirety is probably the most likely it's been in a decade. That said, still not sure it'll actually happen.

Let's be honest with each other: Tool aren't going to play a new track at these shows (with the exception of that Descending thing).

Any expectation otherwise is quite delusional.
