where u guys have the x's, i play open palm mutes, and it sounds good to my ears.

yer i do the same, and it sounds fine.

yeah palm muting..... to get the CLANG adam has you may want to do both a palm mute and a string mute right before the unmuted notes, the dynamic parts, the 3s and the 6s etc...

i'm not good at alternate picking while palm muting though so sometimes it's pretty hard to get cold and ugly to sound right, the way i hold my pick doesn't leave my much room to palm mute unless i have a huge guitar like my yamaha pacifica.
