Going to Lolla for the show sat night (driving from Dallas). I have never been and would like a heads up (i.e. security). With the guys takin a 2 wk break after this show, and with the size of the event this could be a good one (or not). I have never seen them at a festival tho. Saw them OKC '07 and in SA two weeks ago. We plan on locking down a front row spot all day prob in front of Adam (sat 2nd row in front of Justin in OKC, they had no pit then too, all chairs, note: discussion topic: seating vs pit...) Anyways we are gonna battle teenage douches all day to keep a spot. I would rather be getting high with you guys all day then stupid fucking ****** retro punks. Discuss

also... at the manchester show I was one of the last people to leave the venue and at the merch stand there was a special poster for sale.
It was the manchester adam poster, signed by all members, with random drawings on it in special crayons by adam jones. looked like a homer simpson head and some other neat stuff. asking price was $400, though. nobody bought it.
kanaduh, I sent you a couple of PM's a few days ago, I didn't want to press the issue while you were dealing with no place to stay/no sleep. When you get a second, check them.
FACT: If you think that the Lateralus "drum-off" is there to "take up set time," you are... wait for it... A FUCKING MORON.
Go take up listening to Limp Bizkit or something, and stay home next time.
:)
Agreed. The intros to "Forty-Six & 2", "Schism" and "Vicarious" are there to take up time. The "Lateralus" drum-off is there to let Danny tear it up and put the guest drummers to shame.
"I did it all for the nookie, yeah..."

They aren't there to take up time. Of course, they DO indeed "take up time," but to imply that they are there simply because the band doesn't want to play another song is wrong. They are part of the live experience. Other bands may not have long trippy intros to their songs, but they do stuff with the audience instead (joke, chant, whatever).
Maybe that is not how you meant it, I dont know?
Either way, to all of you who don't like the fact that they extend songs and experiment with intros at their shows instead of playing a different song altogether, feel free to not purchase tickets to the next Tool show in your area. Feel free not to travel to Tool shows either. I feel bad for all of you who feel the need to dissect every aspect of their live shows. I really do feel bad, I mean, how are you able to go to a Tool show and enjoy it for what it is?

Haha, my entire post was sarcasm, i.e. the "Nookie" reference.
But Danny does kick ass on the "Lateralus" drum off.

FACT: If you're STILL justifying the setlist (which I personally have no qualms with, really) by saying "well, the production is just too intricate/complicated to switch up songs every night"...
you're not necessarily an idiot, but you DON'T really like to read. :)
hey junior nice to meet you in charlotte. im sure i was a drunk idiot. yer a hell of a nice guy. thanks nobby for the setlist yet again. i left it in the omni.

on nunsense what are we going to do with you?
but you are right about the drum off! I would imagine that Tweek Bird was chosen at least in part with the skills of the drummer in mind. In New Mexico he was awesome!
(and I know drummers)
only a few days unil Lolla, all you posters that are going PM me to get together for some beers!
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But theres a big chunk of their fan base that think theyve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
I do not believe Maynard is not interested in Tool anymore... in fact I think that a load of crap. This Tour just may not have been on his things to do list, the fact that he still did it means that he doesn't absolutely hate it. I have read in interviews where Maynard has said they were in the beginnings of a new album (2008)
After this tour he is going to do Puscifer shows, meaning he still is interested in music, just new music... After these shows, (which will hopefully come to the East coast) what will he do? sit and watch his grapes grow, or write new stuff with APC, which will not merit a tour. So what is left? Tool, new Tool which I believe he will be very interested in after he has exhausted his Puscifer shows to an extent.
Maynard is not disinterested in Tool at all, just not as interested in this tour. I expect an album late 2010/early 2011
Forgot where I read it, but there is talks of a U.S. Puscifer tour... Im sure during that time, the 3 core members of Tool will get together and do some solid writing and creating.
OH and I just saw the newest photo uploaded at toolband.com and I must say I absolutely love the middle lasers used on Vicarious. The pinks and light blues look amazing. I dont remember seeing them at the SLC show on the 19th or during the '07 shows. JUNIOR, have you guys been using those center lasers the whole summer tour? I certainly do remember the amazing green laser grids used for Vicarious, but not the blue/pink ones.
I don't think the most accurate answer is even an option. I'm going to go with "E)" which is "Continuing to work on a new album."
I really think we will see a new album in mid 2010. I mean, there were 5 years between Aenima/Lateralus and Lateralus/10,000 days and from what I have read, the band does not necessarily seem want to wait that long each time. I think this is where we see the 5 year gap come to an end. 4 years it is. 2010!...I hope....

I expect absolutely no earlier than Spring 2011, hell could be a 2012 release at this rate. Then a tour through 2012 with a nice "end of the world" theme.
People need to stop supporting every little thing that MJK does. Okay, APC was some good stuff, but don't buy his wine just because his name is on it. Don't go to Puscifer shows just because he is singing. In my opinion, neither of those projects could have made it on their own merits. Turning out for wine signings and Puscifer shows just encourages him to spend less time creating quality material with Tool.

I agree. Tool is synergistic in that the whole is greater then the sum of the parts. MJK is a part, and truthfully is not much without Tool. I am a Tool fan, APC and Puscifer just don't do it for me. And frankly, Puscifer sucks. Real Tool fans probably feel the same because anything MJK does will never equal Tool...ever...it's like drinking a budweiser then drinking a Colt 45...its not the same

What is a "real" Tool fan exactly? Were there cards handed out? Did I miss a meeting?

I highly disagree with the statement regarding APC not making it on their own merit. Yes, APC was a major success because of MJK's popularity via Tool, but Billy Howerdel was the mastermind behind APC's beautifully composed music. Just listen to Ashes Divide and you will understand how that is possible. I know this is not the place to discuss APC and other bands, I just wanted to clear that up.

I'm not sure what you mean by "at this rate." We really don't know much about the rate at which Tool may or may not be writing a new album.

To be honest Im not sure what I meant, but really it all boils down to Maynard I think. I know Justin, Danny and Adam could pump out more than an albums worth of epic tunes within a short period of time, but if Puscifer really is planning a US tour sometime soon, dont count on Maynard being ready to hear and work on what the 3 have put together during his time away.
The way I see 10,000 Days being put together, since Maynard was out doing APC and other stuff between Lateralus and 10,000 Days, is Danny and Justin jammed a lot. They would come up with some groovy as fuck foundation, then Adam comes over for a jam and adds some tasty layers. Then they solidify structures based off their jams, then present them to Maynard where he adds his touch. This is of course a theory, but I see it in my mind clearly. I do remember reading Blair saying Justin and Danny jam a lot sometime not too long ago....
So if thats how their process is working out these days, dont count on less than 2 years for a new album. Maybe they already have an albums worth of jams locked up, maybe they dont. I just dont see an album any sooner than 2011.
