Is it me ... or are you tired of cookie cutter setlists too ?
because ....i would rather see a mix of old music.... As the current set list is out, I believe they could have done a better job. How about just totally re-tooling some songs.. or break some out some numbers they have never played... if indeed they aren't a bunch of butt pirates or hookers with penises; why not play some oldies and fuck it up for the fans sake.... that is what the lIVE experience is all about right... studio is for perfection ... live is for that moment in time .. the fuck up .. the emotional a-ha moment ---
Also, could we please cease 46+2 , aenima + show me that you love me and retire Stinkfist. ty.
My favorite song off of 10k was 'right in two'.. how times did they ever play that live ? Tired of the 'we are evolving' or I was in a different place and time so we won't play a certain song ... It seems like a real lazy thing to do and it seems to create a perception of 'selling-out' as elton john stated in this forum somewhere...
Look.... I fucking love Tool I really do .. ok ... i get it .. I also get we are all getting older .. christ danny just turned 49 for christ sakes.... why not ride off onto the sunset instead of making the almighty buck ... Seems like Maynard would rather sell you some fermented grapes.. passions have changed ... sorry for the rant ..... maybe I am stuck in time machine but 10k sucked ... feel free to emasculate me.. later bros. and sisters.
If I were to be able to catch a show where they played "The Grudge" live, the person standing infront of me would get a huge dose of my jizz spurted on their back.

I dont normally do these things either - just makes me get my hopes up. But I will indulge while totally disregarding the 10,000 days touring patterns.
1. Mantra - Or any ambient ear-candy track will begin immediately as the lights go down. The crowd rises and begins to cheer. The ambient track will continue right into...
2. Merkaba (ft. new Tim Leary samples) - As with many openers, this song would ideally begin with very low lights or total darkness then as the song builds the lighting would get brighter but remain at a low level. Merkaba is a total psychedeliac jam out, which I think would be a cool and relatively unconventional way to start a show - ideally at a festival. It wouldn't take very long for the audience to realize: "Oh, shit. This show is going to be different." I imagine Adam would project some very weird/awesome imagery by the end of the tune.
3. Intolerance (New-extended version) - This song will begin with nary a pause after Merkaba. The audience erupts. This track is the perfect complement to Merkaba because its way more conventional and rock-oriented. The new version will feature new vintage audio samples - seemingly of politicians/authority figures speaking. When the song ends the next song begins immediately...
4. Stinkfist (extended version) - Never fails to deliver. A perfect clincher for the opening trio medley that I envision. When this song finishes there is a very brief pause in which another ear-candy track comes to the fore. To everybodys delight the track is...
5. Eon Blue Apocalypse (Extended ft. a digeridoo) - Audience members expect the Patient to come next but are surprised to discover this version of Eon Blue is extended. Though still retaining its moody nature, the songs is far more psychedeliac and features some great instrumentation in the form of the digiridoo. Upon its conclusion the Patient begins immediately...
6. The Patient - Just like we all remember it. A swirling beast of a song. At this point in the concert everyone feels like they are on hallucinogens. Many, in fact, are.
----------Intermission-----------
7. Jambi - No ear-candy or ambience precedes this song. The lights go off and after a few seconds we hear Adam's pummeling intro. The crowd goes wild.
8. Useful Idiot/46&2 - Another classic crowd pleaser. Perfectly executed to nobodies surprise. Then... holy shit, the band unveils a new laser-light show! The lights go down as the song concludes. Silence, and then...
9. Sober - Somewhat of a surprise to play this song at this time but nobody seems to mind. This performance has a tear-down-the-house kind of feel to it. Something not often felt at Tool shows - at least not since the pre Aenima days. When the song ends, the lights go down and some ambient noise comes to the foreground. Is this the end of the show? All thats left is a small image being projected on screen... Its too small no one can make it out at first but the crowd roars, beckoning the band to play 1 more song. The image on screen becomes larger and it becomes evident that the image is from the Lateralus cover art. Oh shit...
-----Encore 1-------
10. Lateralus - The epic track is unfurled in its full glory here. The laser light show is even better than we all remember. When the song ends everyone wants 1 more. Will the band oblige?
11. Vicarious - Yes they oblige. The crowd seems pleased, almost overwhelmed at this point. This has to be the end right? Most people think so, but not quite.
12. Rosetta Stoned - No Lost Keys just right into Rosetta Stoned. Fans are caught off guard - as they have been all show. Upon the songs conclusion the band members take a bow, Standing ovation etc...etc... But wait... the crowd is still cheering. The band appears to be talking to one another, what do they have planned. Maynard addresses the crowd: "We decided to play some songs for you this summer... We wanted to something different... We'll, we hope you approve..."
Then right on cue...
-----Encore 2-------
13. Ticks and Leeches - What else needs to be said. This would be my dream set list.
you were not that off.

This was a little tougher to do than I thought. I have never made a disc with a combination of Tool songs because I like them all so much that it is pointless. I usually just listen to a disc in its entirety. But, here is what I can come up with right now.
1. The Grudge (They opened with this at my first Tool show and it was fuckin awesome)
2. Jambi
3. H.
4. Schism
5. Sober
6. Wings for Marie
7. 10,000 Days
--Intermission--
8. EBA
9. The Patient
10. Right in Two
11. Lateralus
12. Aenima
--Encore--
13. The Pot
I feel like this should be a reasonable setlist considering how much the tickets cost. I guess I am just spoiled in that I am a Deadhead first and foremost and even in thier later years, they played for over 2.5 hours. I dont think that a 2 hour setlist from Tool would be asking too much. I know it is odd that someone into the Dead would be into Tool, but that is the case with me. I have seen Tool four times, and dont get me wrong, it was fuckin great everytime, but the shows have never been over 2 hours. Also, they have 5 records worth of songs to choose from and various covers, a little more varied setlist should be expected from show to show. I dont want to sound like I am not appreciative of the music I have been able to enjoy from Tool, because I am. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing music wise that comes out these days even close.

With everyone wondering whether or not Tool will play any cover songs this summer, I think it is important for us all to take a look back at one of the greatest covers in the history of music...
Really hoping for
parabol/a
Pushit
Something off undertow that's not sober, flood, intolerance
Any of those along with all the ones we know we're going to get would be awesome

I see you agree that some Opiate tracks will get dusted off this time around.
BUT
I'm not sold on the return of Third Eye. I think that they broke it out, revisited it and now are ready to put it back on the shelf.
I realize this will bum some folks out, but I don't think Third Eye makes it this time around.
I could do without the Opiate tracks. They need to dust off some Undertow if you ask me! Also I really doubt Maynard could do Jerk off these days. But if I had to hear an Opiate track it would be that one.
I saw them 7 times since 10,000 Days came out and alm ost every show had the same setlist.
I am very upset their last tour never was around here and never got to see Intolerance, Third Eye or Pushit live.
I am lucky and did get to see some rarely played tracks within the 7 shows (Right in Two, Sober, and Some Days its Dark!)
But always missed the swamp song, opiate, etc.
I am pretty sure that they won't mix things up too much...but would be fine with just 2 changes. Give me Eulogy, Jerk Off, Cold and Ugly, Part of me, H, Jimmy, The Grudge or Reflections and i'll be more than happy.
Front row in London Ontario...cannot wait. Got my tickets in the mail today!

Crazy... I'm seeing Tool in a couple of weeks! Wow. Who woulda thunk it? I really am having very few thoughts on setlist preferences at this point. It's just gonna be great to see them again.
Definitely not going to have any Opiate tracks - they are sick of performing them and maynards voice isn't gonna take it (except for maybe the title track, he could do that without the screaming parts). I would love to hear H. but I don't think that will happen for the same reasons we will probably never hear Jimmy, Prison Sex, of Wings for Marie 1&2 again - too personal, and Maynard's moved on from those issues.
My money is on The Grudge. I think that could be the new opener to replace Third Eye. (The Patient was AWESOME on the last tour btw) We will continue to only get one song from Undertow, and I bet it won't be Sober....I would be tickled pink with Bottom or Swamp Song. I think they are sick of the old songs plus Justin probably doesn't like playing songs he didn't write the bass for, especially since they now have more albums with him than Paul D'amour. I think Pushit is also a very real possibility since they have performed it as recently as a couple years ago. I would love to hear Eulogy as well.
Oh......Anyone thought they might debut something new? I don't know if they have done that before or not, maybe you diehards from 93 can enlighten me ;)
