Some guy from Tooltabs.net who was in L.A with Paul D'Amour said this..

Quote:
is being produced by alex newport www.alexnewport.com ...at least if i remember from my conversation.

no final tracks have been recorded yet. danny knows all his parts, but hasnt recorded any of them(according to my source he wont take more than a week to do so). all of this stalling is apparently adam jone's fault, why exactly i dont know.

the album is going to be uber self-indulgent and have like 6 12 minute songs. sounds like another band.....but probably a shit ton better. it is supposed to be just sickeningly heavy.
He was with a load of other guitarist auditioning for Feersum Ennjin.

Alex Newport.

Adam, slowing the whole thing down.

6 - 12 Minute songs.

Sickeningly Heavy.

This seems a lot more credible compared to the other shit I've seen on here. Adam, Maynard, whoever, I don't care who's slowing it down. Alex Newport? Sickeningly heavy sounds bonerific.

Self-indulgent, yet sickeningly heavy, yet complicated. I like it. Just so long as it's not political.

So, no filler tracks?

Also- unless the person meant 5 twelve minute tracks and an 18 minute track, or if it's a going to be a double CD, then there won't be enough room for the 18 minute song too. I'm fairly sure cds can only hold 78 minutes of recorded material, hence the length of Lateralus.

Alex Newport? He produced Tremulant EP from The Mars Volta. That might be a...different approach, if true. I'll have to go back and listen to that EP to see what it is like. I must admit that I never paid attention.

I don't much like the Tremulant EP from TMV. Cut That City and Eunuch Provocateur aren't my style, but I think Concertina is the fucking shiznittlebam. As for how this Alex dude produces, I don't much know how I can gauge his skills through this CD, so we'll see how the piece comes out with a different producer. That is if this person isn't bullshitting.

Well, that depends on the style. If it's more of a brooding, slower, death-metal heavy, the crossover appeal probably won't be as high. If it's more aggressive and visceral they might get some heavy radio play...and then these forums will be noob-bombed.

Wow, this news is great, if it is indeed true... "Self-indulgent" and "sickeningly heavy", oh man I just came... I need aggressive Tool, their previous albums are all great, but I need something from Tool to just aurally beat the shit of me... I can't wait to see how Maynard's vocals relate to this new heavy Tool...

WHOOO HOO!!!

P.S. Nice to see Paul D'Amour is still in contact with the band.

not an aggressive sickeningly heave, but a defensive sickeningly heave, brooding and shit, that would be awesome.

Whatever it is, people will hate it. Whenever a band puts out their 4th full-length album, people have to hate it. It's the rule

By sickeningly heavy, do you mean something in relation to, say, Flood (first few minutes of it), only even sicker, heavier, and more intense? Something that just beats the hell out of your brain? Something that you could use to scare children away? That would be totally sweet.

i think it will have a Triad-like sound.

People have observed in the past that the last track on each album seems to show the direction of the next album. Flood to Aenima, Third Eye to Lateralus (all that lateral thinking stuff), so Triad to whatever this one is.

I think it will be heavier, musically, but it won't be one of those talentless bands that screams and growls the vocals instead of actually singing them.

And as far as the producer goes, I don't think Tool would pick someone they did not like or could not do a great job.

i really dont think we can expect an 18 minute song to be on this record...its just a long jam that they started with....its most likely that the song will either be shortened considerably or cut in half or thirds like d/r/t...

I was reading up on the producer and I like a lot of whom he has worked with, I saw Melvins, TMV and The Locust. This guy seems like he would be good for Tool if they wanted a "heavier" album. Well, it would be nice if this was a legit piece of news. Time will tell.
