Anyone else notice the logo on the toolband entrance? Thought it was interesting, if nothing else. New background was cool too, maybe has something to do with the new album cover?

I don't mind it, except for the transition from the T to the first O, like others have mentioned. Other than that, it looks pretty cool. The font looks more gothic now, too.

The logo is pretty crude, but with a few touch ups it could be bitching. I like the background quite a bit though, it's got an organic, disorderly vibe to it.

as everyone has said...
The "T" to the first "O" needs to be changed or fixed up or a reason given as to why it's fucked up....
the logo doesn't flow like past logos......

Wow, that looks worse then most metal band logos, and the movement of the background is very choppy.

its nearly identical in form to the previous lateralus logo, but with a more polished, pointed, mechanical, nonorganic look. i think that and the engine type sounds on the intro page give me a glimpse as to what the album might entail.

ha yea man, they should put a disclaimer under the logo that states "don't be confused folks, the t and the o are accidentally blended together but due to budgetary reasons we are unable to correct this mistake. we apologize for any confusion this may cause you."

The logo looked horrible, and the background thing was probably a good idea, but as Panzefaust said, very choppy.
I'm hoping the sounds on that page is in indication of the type of music on the next album.

i agree with misanthrope, but i'm quite positive it's not a new logo, it's just joshua davis' deal, he has complete creative licence with the TOOL website, as i hear.
also, i'm positive the chopiness is deliberate... as to coincide with the music...

Not quite sure why the transition between the t and o are important. But whatever floats yer boat.
I think it looks cool. The moving, pulsating, coloured 'grubs' are pretty damn good. And those sounds are rather creepy. Sounds like someone slowly winding up a jack-in-the-box.
I wonder when Jack comes out to play?

if you go to the site mentioned, once-upon-a-forest.com, theres art. Notice that there is maruto mentioned in the code and also on the site, notice you can change the numbers by clicking the arrows... this means something, someone figure it out.
also, the code on once upon a forest is pretty interesting, obviously by the artist. Its a good read.
From the code:
"Dynamic Abstraction"
Among modern artists I conceptually identify with Jackson Pollock - not
that I'm a particular fan of his visual style, but because he always
identified himself as a painter, even though a lot of the time his brush
never hit the canvas. There's something in that disconnect - not using a
brush or tool in traditional methods - that says a lot about the concept
of dynamic abstraction, because in that loss of control there can be
beauty in randomness.
Pollock might argue that it's the process of abstraction that's dynamic,
not the end result, which in his case is a static painting. In my own
work, the end result is never static; by making room for as many
anomalies as possible, every composition generated by the programs I
write is unique to itself. I program the "brushes," the "paints," the
"strokes," the rules and the boundaries. However it is the machine that
creates the compositions -- the programs draw themselves. I am in a
constant state of surprise and discovery, because the program may
structure compositions that I may never have thought of to execute or
might take me hours to create manually.
For me, the art form is not in the few days it takes me to write the
program. The art is the few weeks I will spend living with the work,
waiting for the work to evolve. Running functions, re-running functions,
always waiting to capture that moment in time - the beautiful accident.

Running functions, re-running functions,
always waiting to capture that moment in time - the beautiful accident.

thanks for that, i found that really interesting, i did this last week sometime, it applies loosely, and it's posted in creativity//art but no one likes me there.

Speaking of NIN, it would be pretty kick ass if Tool went on tour with them this summer.

The new logo kind of resembles a castle to me. Look at the O's like those defensive "things" that were cut into the sides of castle.

Oh, it would, it would. And if they could do a Canadian tour, that would be pretty awesome as well...

Lateralus logo resembled a mosceiah to me. You know it just came to mid. Or maybe Taj Mahal or something like that. Old logo sucked (opiate-salival).

Well if you could draw comparison from Lateralus and Eastern religions I guess...
So maybe the new one will be similar to the Western religions, like a total contrast of Lateralus.

Meh...well...
The new logo is cool, I thinl, except the little blotch between the T and the O needs to ge. I like the art; it'd be cool if the album looked like that. The rest of the website needs revamped; the links page still reads "Left-brain/Right-brain", etc.
A fixed version of the new Tool logo > Lateralus logo > New Tool logo > Old Tool logo

ps. I doubt Tool will make the same mistake as NIN, so the album's really hush hush
edit: I'm surprised no one mentioned the sounds in the background... turn on your speakers tdn'ers!!!

The sounds in the background are odd. Could be intro or a filler like (-)Ions

I agree, to me it sounds like the winding up of something, like a Jack-in-the-Box.
I think it'd be cool to have the sound of the winding and then just as the <Jack> should pop up with a scream or something, a kickass heavy riff could begin, and on with the show....
I really can't wait.

Same...at least this is a for-sure indicator that we're really close to release.
I want a screen saver of the new entrance, I could stare at it all day.
