Since logic has no bearing on anybody....I'll leave you with this.
And no, it was Santa Clause. They're fake. And WHATEVER YOU DO.....do not apply them to Vicarious. They are wrong.

Do you honestly want us to stop attempting to refine the lyrics we have gathered here until we achieve what we believe to be an accurate collection?
When what is posted on the lyrics page is inaccurate (or deviated from, if you prefer) I attempt to decipher what is actually being sung as opposed to what was posted.
Why would that not hold true in this case?

You've brought all this backlash upon yourself, Believe, a sink hole of flames for what you have dared to declare.
Though still quite incredulous, I'm not going to deride you over it.

You have to admit, believe was working with Kabir on the lyrics updates, and Maynard has been known to post lyrics on TDN... It's not entirely out of the question that Maynard came on here and made a post, and if anyone would know, it'd be believe. Just putting it out there.

Does that really bear much relevence to attempting to document what lyrics are actually sung on the single?
I remain confident that its "Credulous" and not "Incredulous". Aside from that, Dry Mana (or Maynard - if you're a "believer") seems to have it pretty accurate.

Based on context, the word "Credulous" wouldn't make sense. "Incredulous" does.

I can hear "shunned" if I look for it. Not sure which it is. Here's my final opinion:
Eye on the TV cuz tragedy thrills me.
Whatever flavor it happens to be.
Like. . .
Killed by the husband.
Drowned by the ocean.
Shot by his own son. [Shunned by his own son?]
She used a poison in his tea, and kissed him goodbye.
It's my kind of story. No fun 'til someone dies.
Don't look me at like I am a monster.
Frown out your one face, but with the other stare like a junkie into the TV.
Stare like a zombie while the mother holds her child.
Watches him die. Hands to the sky, crying "Why, oh why?"
Cuz I need to watch things die (from a distance)
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
You all need it too, don't lie.
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing.
Neither the brave nor bold will write us the story,
So we won't give pause until the blood is flowing.
I need to watch things die (from a good safe distance)
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
You all feel the same so why can't we just admit it?
Blood like rain falling down.
Drawing on the grave and bound.[Drowning grave and mound? Drawn by the grave and mound?]
Part vampire.
Part warrior.
Carnivore and voyeur.
Stare at the transmittal.
Sing to the death rattle.
Incredulous[/Credulous] at best [is] your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men.
Pull your head on out your head, and reason, give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again.
The universe is hostile, so impersonal.
Devour to survive, so it is, so it's always been.
We all feed on tragedy (it's like blood to a vampire)
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
Much better you than I. . .

whats wrong with being straightforward? sometimes you want that balance of extremely complex writing and simplicity. sometimes its a million times harder to write simplistically. look at the beatles after rubber soul, some of the greatest lyrics for love songs but unbelievably simple. yet every word strikes a chord.

Maybe this was done so that the people who are TV addicts can understand the song clearly and thus maybe change.. if its too garbled then the meaning could fly over their heads..

incredulous does make sense. the speaker is incredulous at people's desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men, considering how hostile and impersonal the world is, and how hypocritical people are. basically like saying "I find it hard to believe you really believe in angels in the hearts of men, pull your head out your ass, we live for tragedy, admit you do too"

Just because the lines themselves are easy to comprehend doesn't mean that the real meaning of the song is straight-forward. I don't really go in for explicitly figuring out what a song 'means' but I can feel that there are a lot of dimensions to vicarious.

I agree. Credulous might have worked if it weren't for the "at best". "credulous your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men" would mean something like "the world is so tragic so I can understand your desire to believe in this" but the "at best" clearly rules that out.

Eye on the TV, ‘cause tragedy thrills me,

You all feel the same so, why can't we just admit it?
Blood like rain come down.
Drum on grave and ground.
Part vampire, part warrior.
Carnivore and voyeur.
Stare at the transmittal.
Sing to the death rattle.
La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie (x4)
Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men.
Pull your head on out your head piece and give a listen.
Shouldn't have to say it again.
The universe is hostile, so impersonal.
Devour to survive, so it is, so its always been.
We all feed on tragedy, its like blood to a vampire.
Vicariously I, live while the whole world dies.
Much better you than I.

Credulous means gullible. Incredulous is the opposite. Their desire to believe in "angels in the hearts of men" is because of their gullibility.
The line is a reordered "Your desire to believe... is credulous at best"
It's saying "I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you only believe it because you're gullible, but that's the best I can give you"

Credulous - to believe something without proper evidence. Ill founded belief. The grammatical structure is varied a little - as is common with poetry and lyrics of songs.
Credulous at best - your desire to believe in...
Even at best, the belief that angels lie in mens hearts is credulous. There is no evidence for it.
Credulous makes sense.
Incredulous makes sense if you take the line in a completely different context. Which you are free to do.

"Maynard can do this better" is a dumb thing to say because there isn't anything inherently worse about having clear, straight-forward lyrics.
Overusing metaphor doesn't reflect intelligence--it's just pretentious. I commend Maynard for the very unobtrusive language he uses to convey his ideas here. Sometimes its just better to say what you want to say.

I disagree.
I think they're better than a whole lot of the lyrics on Lateralus. All the metaphoric and low-concept language is like junk food....it "tastes" good, but the content isn't nearly as powerful as it is when you just say what you want to say. Stuff like "I live while the whole world dies" is a hell of a lot more powerful than "Saturn ascends"....and The Grudge is my favorite Tool song.

I need to watch things die
From a good safe distance
-wow, lame. Good safe distance? It doesnt even sound good when he says it.
La la la la la la la lie [x4]

But pull your head on out. Your head believes, so please give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

I'm sorry but most of the lyrics sound like some APC crap, and they dont even flow with the song for the most part.

agree 100%
cryptic and metaphoric just for the sake of being cryptic and metaphoric is stupid
Some subjects work better that way, but for this subject the bluntness of the lyrics only adds to the harshness

Don't know what you mean "sound good when he says it". Phonetically? Sounds fine to me.
As for what you said about APC...I don't really agree but even if I did I wouldn't care. He's the singer for both bands, there may be some similarities and overlap in style every now and then.

Good writing IMO

One of the best parts of the song. He's singing to "the death rattle." Not only is he desensitized, he's actually so happy to watch tragedy that he gleefully sings while he witnesses it

Do my dirty work, scapegoat

I sat down and listened to Vicarious over and over again and I have got the lyrics for the entire song, and I would say my version is about 90% accurate. If anyone finds errors please let me know.
Eye on the TV
Cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor it happens to be like
?killed by? the husband
Drowned by the ocean
shot by his own son
she used a poison ??????
???????????????????
?So kiss them goodbye?
That’s my kind of story
Its no fun till someone dies
Don’t look ?be near light?
I am a monster
Frown out your one face
but with the other
stare like a junkie
into the tv
stare like a zombie
wide over my older child
watches them die
heads for the sky crying, why oh why
Cause I need to watch things die from a distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
You all needed to join ?alive?
Why we can’t just admit it?
Why can’t we just admit it?
We won’t give pause until the blood is flowing near the grave
In our ?bowl?
White as the stone ?reds soul?
We won’t give pause until the blood is flowing
I need to watch things die from a good safe distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same so, why can’t we just admit it?
The light may come down
drum on grave and proud
*single words in weird voice—cant understand any, lol*
Na na na na na na na nai
Na na na na na na na nai
Na na na na na na na nai <-------- or La/Lai
Na na na na na na na nai
*weird spaced out voices—kind of news like*
Credulous did best your desire to beneathen Angels in the hearts of men
Pull you head on out your ?hip?
The ?angels? give a lesson
shouldn’t have to stay at home again?
The universe is hostel, so impersonal, devour to survive, so lose, so its always been
We all feed
A tragedy
?Not to a vampire?
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
Much may you and I

Live while the whole world dies
You all need and choose your own lie
Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin
Neither the brave nor bold
Will write us the story so
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin
I need to watch things die
From a good safe distance
Vicariously I
Live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same so
Why can't we just admit it?
Blood like rain fallin down
Drownin grave and ground
Part vampire
Part warrior
Carnivore and voyeur
Still have the transmittal
Sing to the death rattle
La, la, la, la, la, la, la-lie (x4)
Credulous at best
Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
But pull your head on out
Your head, please, and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again
The universe is hostile,
So impersonal
Devour to survive
So it is, so it's always been!
We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire
Vicariously I
Live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I
