i hear "pure" in there a few times, but my first impression was "cure by will alone" and i still hear it, at least on that line.

From this song.
Yes exactly, so "love is the law, love under will" is not a non sequitar at all. One of the best songs on this album. It could be cure by will alone, it makes more sense. As a thematic intro to right in two its great with the "Cutting our love right in two" chorus.

i'm hearing
"light the way along this home we occupy"
instead of
"light the way or warm this
hope we occupy"
makes more sense as well.

I've listened to this several times, I hear:

Light the way, or warm this home we occupy.

Also, to the snakes line in question above...lol, its

"Forge a blade to slay the stranger, take whatever we desire"

If you look at that whole verse... "spark becomes a flame, flame becomes a fire" couldn't it be that in the fire, you forge the blade.... use the blade to slay the stranger, and then take whatever you desire?

just my .02

The more I listen to it, the more I think the second line in the song is 'Curious we come in'.

Song not found. I'll have to check it out when I get home. Cool find. Makes me wonder if any of the backwards stuff on Lost Keys is really anything or not.

I've a doubt on "throw to stay the stranger" , I would be more logical if it was "Thrown this to the stranger." The tool became a weapon, first to protect us, then to attack and destroy the strangers, each others ...like the fire which lighted the way and warmed and which finished by forging blades.....

It's linked to the word 'intenstion". For me this song means that nothing is bad, it's just the intention you have when you use it which determines what will be bad or good :
Fire : warm,protect/attack,forging weapon
Stone: build house,protect/throw it,crush bones of the others with...

i still think hes making a nazi reference; but if hes trying to be ironic than hes doing it in more ways than one. Mindless Self Indulgence have a song called "backmask" and the lyrics tell you to kill yourself but in reverse it tells you to be good and brush your teeth! MSI rule.

From an interview with Maynard :

"Information, itself, is pure. Take a knife, for example. You can use it to cut up vegetables, meat, butter your bread, etc. Or you can use it as a weapon. The way in which information exists in its many forms leaves for us the decision as to how it is we wish to use it. Information itself has a certain purity. Humans have intentionality. It's humans who decide how it is they wish to behave. Information and technology are pure" [or what I referred to as amoral-that is, morality-the rightness/wrongness of actions-cannot take place until humans decide how they wish to use them]."......I think it's the subject of Intension

I'll second this idea - and add that 'Forge a blade to slay the stranger, take whatever we desire' makes more sense to the overall theme of this song, which is pretty straightforward.

It's a fresh take on the old cliche "guns don't kill people, people kill people."

Don't get mad at the snake, get mad at the jerk who put it on your plane.

Don't get mad at the snake, get mad at the jerk who put it on your plane.

I hear SLAY as well... everything else fits.

Quicktime (Pro) will play audio (or video) backwards. Not sure if it's in the regular Quicktime version as I only have pro here.

Intension

pure as we begin
pure as we come in
pure as we begin
move by will alone

pure as we begin
here we have a stone
gather, place, erase, so
shelter turned to home

pure as we begin
here we have a stone
throw this to the stranger
swore to crush his bones

move by will alone

spark becomes a flame
flame becomes a fire
light the way or warm this
hope we occupy

spark becomes a flame
flame becomes a fire
forge a blade to slay the stranger
take whatever we desire

move by will alone

pure as we begin

pure as we begin
move by will alone
leave as we come in
pure as light, return to one

move by will alone
move by will alone

i hear the following parts thusly:

gather, place, arrange so
shelter turns to home

and

light the way or warm this
home we occupy

and to reiterate some earlier posts: i think some of the lines say "pure" and some say "cure".. "cure by will alone" i'm pretty sure about, the rest i don't know.

I'm thinking it's "throw this day the stranger / swore to crush his bones." As in, this is the day he swore to crush me, so I'll throw the stone at him. It sounds like it... it just seems that there's definitely other than "throw to stay the stranger." We're all going to feel like idiots if there are ever official lyrics released.

This clip contains the full 30 second bit. You do have to turn up the volume a little bit because the message is whispered and is kind of quiet...but...it does say:

"Work hard. Stay in school. Listen to your mother. Your father is right.
Work hard. Stay in school. Listen to your mother. Your father is right."

I'd rather listen to Hanson.

I also saw this on another site: (These lyrics are played backwards: Work hard, Stay in school, Listen to your mother, your father is right/rising/right, son... Jesus loves you... Work hard, Stay in school, Listen to your mother, your father is right/rising/right son...)

They seemed to imply that it was at the beginning of the song - "Jesus loves you" brother!

I think it's "gather, place, array so." I'm not hearing the g sound. However, Array and arrange both fit in context better than erase.

I also hear home and not hope as well.

I'm still hearing "throw to stay," and it makes sense: Throw a rock to hold off the stranger.

Pure as we begin.
Pure as we come in.
Pure as we begin.
Ruled by will alone.

Pure as we begin.
Here we have a stone.
Gather, place, erase so. (*)
Shelter turns to home.

Pure as we begin.
Here we have a stone.
Throw to stay the stranger. (*)
Swore to crush his bones. (*)

Ruled by will alone.

Spark becomes a flame.
Flame becomes a fire.
Light the way or warm this.
Home we occupy.

Spark becomes a flame.
Flame becomes a fire.
Forge a blade to slay the stranger.
Take whatever we desire.

Moved by will alone.
Pure as we begin.

Pure as we begin
Move by will alone.
Leave as we come in.
Pure as light.
Return to one.

Move by will alone.
Move by will alone.

I'll have to get a few listens through thinking "Cure by Will alone" and let you know what I think =)

I just made a fresh batch of Cakes of Light, I think I'm going to have to do Mass of the Phoenix, and this song is going to be in te mix for sure.
