I know this has probably been addressed before, but this album gets such an undeserved bad rep. Why? There is plenty of great songs here in my opinion (the third and fourth tracks being among my favorite songs of all time) and as far as I'm concerned there is nothing too different from other Tool albums that makes this one so terrible. Why do so most people hate this album?

I don't hate it, I just don't think it's their best work. I think the way it sounds is far superior ( which I believe is because of Evil Joe Barresi and Adam Jones ) but it just seemed like they ran out of stuff to write about and filled in the cracks with filler that really didn't need to be on there at all.

What I want to know is when will this forum start up the "pre release" crap for this new album like they did with "10,000 Days." I was reading through them the other night and pissed myself I was laughing so hard. Like the one kid who swore that he had heard from a very strong source that the new single would be called "Behold." He got flamed so hard it wasn't even funny.....but I damn near pissed myself reading it. HAHAH!

I think 10 000 days is their best album so far (especially regarding the musical level). AEnima was quite nice but it contained to many simple heavy metal parts ("simple" compared to lateralus and 10000days) except for tracks like Third Eye which was an excellent masterpiece.
Lateralus and especially 10 000 days are more artistical, psychedelic and have a more sophisticated musical philosophy. Tracks like Wings for Marie pt.1 & 2, Intension, Lost keys, Viginti Tres, Disposition or Reflection are very lovely.

Agreed. You know, it really pisses me off when people tend to compare albums. All I hear is "10,000 Days is bad compared to Lateralus". Well that's personal preference, sure Lateralus has a special place in my heart, but so does 10,000 Days. "Oh this album was bad compared to that album and the first album was way better than their second album". Well, those people are missing the point of music. Period. No decent band tries to make an album based on previous albums. That would be like an artist painting a forest, then painting a forest with a few more trees and more wildlife, then more trees more wildlife and more water. Yes, it's changing constantly, but in the realm of one small area, with little or hardly any room for improvement. After the forest should be cells transforming, after that should be a concept on revolt against the totalitarian government, after that should be 3 planets colliding into one another into a supernova, after that should be a parable on the physics of lateral thinking..... wait nvm :P
