I am fairly certain that no one has gotten this correct yet. My closest guess is this:

"Dim my eyes if they should compromise our fulcrum
Wants and needs divide me thin
I might as well be gone"

I'm almost positive that the first line is correct, because he talks about division into two elsewhere in the song, and the related story about Jambi being divided in two by a river. The river would be that fulcrum. I'm sure it would work on the as-yet-undiscussed metaphorical level as well, however that line of interpretation develops.

The other two lines I'm not as sure of, except for the words 'divide me' and 'I might as well be gone.' He may say something like, 'Once our needs divide me then I might as well be gone.' Nothing else I've seen posted has made enough sense to really be a worthwhile lyric, including the one I quoted. They have all sounded awkward and forced.


Here, I'm almost certain that he says 'legion' or 'legions.' To the tune of:

"Silent legions, say your poison,
Silent legions, stay out of my way."

Again, this makes sense in the context of the song, both from the sultan's perspective of his own people's failure to rise up against Dutch oppression, and probably on a personal level with Maynard's frustration against American apathy.

For what its worth, im pretty sure he says "Damn my eyes", not "Dim my eyes".

"Damn my eyes" makes more sense in the context of the following lyrics.

I think it's "dim my eyes"...

my initial thought was that it was "damn" but on closer listens especially the last time he says it, pretty sure it is dim.

aaand i imagine this has been discussed in other threads but....i find it hilarious that a serious song about wishing references jambi the genie. (i really dont think its theindonesian province)

I think maybe the lines :

...should be :

...referencing the line earlier where he says "my sentence". I could be wrong about that, but it really seems like he's saying "my (something)", rather than "I said".

I think he's also saying "divided and withering away" near the end there, instead of "divide and wither it away."

Also , I think the last lines are
"So, as one survive another day in season.
Sigh, lest legions say your poison
Sigh, lest legions stay and run my way."

This makes sense when considering he's saying "Breathe in Union" just prior. Sounds to me like he's describing breathing techniques for meditation.

I think it's "here from" in the first two sentences and i also think it's Dim and not damn my eyes. Also, in this part

I also think where it says "my sentence," he is saying center. The first time its referenced, you can definately hear center. The second time i think it's center but not 100% certain. I listened to it several times and though i cannot say for sure it's center, i can say for sure that its not sentence.

It sounds like he's saying

"You’re my peace of mind, my (all), (my saturn) just trying to hold on one more day."

He references saturn alot in his lyrics, even in lateralus. I'm not sure what connotations that has, but it seems to be a consistency he holds to alot, for some reason. I'm gonna look into that more.

it very well could be saturn. I was never dead set on center because i just couldn't justify it. However, why would maynard write a song like this about his son? That is what i dont understand. What would make maynard think about losing his son? As a parent, i dont go around thinking about what would happen if i lost my child and i dont think many other parents do either.

Well, consider the kind of life he has. He's a rock mega-star. I don't think that makes for alot of time to spend with his son, especially considering he's the lead singer of two huge bands and going on lengthy world tours. "But I would wish it all away, if I thought I'd lose you just one day."

I'd be worried about that too, if I were him.

It's totally "save your poison." I don't think Maynard would have a lyric about "saying" your poison. It would be a different form of delivery.

I think Maynard has said he likes to toss the lyrics out about a month after the release.

I totally think this song is Maynard kickin' back sippin a cup of coffee while is son (maybe 3 or 4 at the time) was watchin Pee Wee's Playhouse. Maybee\ he was getting excited as children do, and Maynard was just enjoying the moment so much, that he decided to write a song about the love for his son. I too have a son, and I often fear what it would be like to loose him too... So after he captured his emotion, he thought of a title and who was on the screen but 'Jambi'... Maybe huh? Also, maybe since he had just lost his mother, he was feeling vulnerable about loosing someone else whom he loved so much. This song could have been written 2 or 3 years ago lyrically anyway...

i read the myth and legend part, and i don't see ANYTHING that would link the two thematically.. i'm not saying the title is a reference to the pee-wee's playhouse genie per se, but it makes a lot more sense than naming it after some random place in indonesia.

well, i dont know i can make some conections from what i read.......... but um, if you dont agree with the pee wee theory, or mine then please do tell what you do think. really. i'm dying to know.

actually the pee-wee one makes the most sense to me.. but i don't necessarily think it's right.. i can just make more connections with it than the place in indonesia.

at first i thought this song might be in reference to his mother. but the son theory does sound good. i dont see a connection to jambi indonasia other than "kings mountain view" "feast like a sultan i do, on pleasures and/of flesh never few." possibly this kind of "feast" could represent maynards life as this "rockstar"
and "wild dream come true" makes sence in that, i know being a singer in 2 bands would be my wildest dream...well....nvm that...

and i think its "jam my eyes" which would make sence if you remember his reference to the "kings mountain view" which i see as a representation of maynards level of sucess thus far. so if he is saying that if tomorrow would mean him losing his son he would give everything up to avoid that...then jaming your fingers into your eyes in an attempt to blot it all out would make sence in the metaphoric sence.

After reading what's out there, I still think there are a few questionable parts. However, I think this is the most accurate set of lyrics for Jambi. Take a look.
