With the set list being the same on this current tour as it was on the mini tour this past spring, and with blairs post a while back claiming that the set would change, could it be that the band is still trying to dial in on their truly phenominal stuff they have planned for all the new songs from 10KD? It just seems to me that the band cares to much about their craft then to go from the lateralus tour (with all its production) to a slightly less spectacular show. I think that there could possibly be another arena tour next year, possibly in the summer or spring again, in which we will see some of the more fascinating aspects that are more or less expected at a tool show.

Too optimistic imo.
Edit: theyll chage up the setlist for the "real" tour as soon as the release the "real" album. This is as real as it gets i think.
Allright so I can't be 100% sure this is true, but here's what was said in a concert review post.
5) I spoke with a friend in TOOL's crew after the show. Apparently they rehearsed The Grudge and Wings/10000 Days during warmup/soundcheck. I was told that they're still working out some kinks in 10000 Days, but they seem to be progressing. "They usually just stop about halfway through and look at each other, scratching their heads, but today they almost got all the way through it." So... sounds like some lucky city will be seeing/hearing 10000 Days pretty soon. I can only hope it's at one of the Texas shows... since I'll be there too.
I guess they could be doing those for kicks and giggles in the warmup, but if they are practicing them to get them ready for a live show, then I can't see why they would suddenly change the show. Assuming that they do something special with 10,000 Days. If I went to an earlier dated show, and they then threw that song in, I would feel left out, and a little pissed off.
go to the first sticky in the live section last page there are three.

That or we can only beat Blair's stupid head in if we ever see him in person. I know I'll throw an egg or something at his ugly face for sure. Nice hair.
New setlist would be a very very good thing. SOON too. Like, by Friday.

I don't know if this has been covered, but are they confiscating lighters and smokes like they have in the past? I would hope not outdoors, but you never know. And all of Colorado is "smoke-free" now anyway. I just want to be prepared...either to leave my smokes in the car and hide my lighter or what?
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I really dont see what your all complaining about, id be happy to see tool no matter what they played. this may be because ive never seen them live, but i think that you should just be happy with what your given, its better then not seeing them at all.

I've said this a thousand times,..we in California are fortunate enough to have them play like 5 venues in the state , so most of us in the state see them like 2 or 3 times a tour.
I've heard it before--they usually play it right after "Learn to Swim"
Ha ha. Is this what you are referring to?
"Fortunately, for once-upon-a-time heads like me, Tool couched it’s newer, perhaps less familiar material from new albums like 10,000 Days in classics like Jesus Christ."

all right, but what about the rest of the setlist and the songs they play live during the last 5 years or more? They could easily switch songs of the previous albums with other old songs. In 2002 they did quite some mixing up the selection and order of their songs. Not to mention that the shows were over 2 hours back then. I wish they would be like Radiohead on that point: they never play the same setlist twice.

I think now its just a guess but we will definately see a set list change for the LA and Phoenix shows. Why waste your time learning a song and not performing it?La shows are Tools homecoming so I imagineafter those shows theyre going to be more diverse. They always come around twice sometimes three times depending on where you live so I imagine next year when your at a shitty rock festival or outdoor ampitheter(the absolute worse) we will get those 2 hr shows with random set lists

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Whatever Tool decides to play is fine, but I notice that they haven't played 'Right In Two' for 5 consecutive shows. I'd love to hear Right In Two at the Cleveland show. We'll see...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
What kind of FUCKING MORON was that reviewer? At least he said it was a good show, but COME ON. Calling Stinkfist "Prison Sex"? Calling Opiate "their classic song, Jesus Christ"?!?! HAHAHAHHAHAHA. DO some fucking RESEARCH!
Anyway, I prefer the new stage setup far more than the setup from the 2001 Lateralus tour. That tour was all about the huge screens, and while the visuals were really cool, it overshadowed the band. If you want to see that kind of stuff, watch the DVDs of their music videos.
I want to see TOOL, and this new setup gives a far better view of Tool. Also, if you're up higher, apparently the entire stage itself becomes a screen. I was in first row floor and couldn't see this, but apparently the view from higher up was amazing.
Plus, this tour has fucking lasers! I know a few people have hated on the lasers, but come on! They are so cool. Every time a reviewer mentions "the lasers" it just makes me start laughing with pure joy. LASERS!!!!!!!!
Anyway, we need photos from higher up, providing a better view of the stage!. So far there are many excellent photos, from close up. But I want more views of this projection stage that I missed out on!
Inicidentally, this is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PHOTO SO FAR (from the breakdown in Jambi I think, taken at the Gorge):
