I got to see Flood like 4 times...
That song never gets old. It's the only song where everytime, I completely get lost in it. I'm not thinking of anything else...just letting the waves wash me away

totally agree. I seen Flood performed back in the day also and I really enjoyed the latest version.
I saw them 7 times since 10,000 Days came out, and essentially got the same setlist 7 times. Only differences were once time (first) I got "Sober" and once I got "Right in Two". The rest was all the same.
It really angered me that they threw around songs during 2006-2009 like Pushit, Swamp Song, The Patient, and Opiate, and not once out of the 7 times did I get any of them.
Their last tour, last Summer....didn't they even advertise they would be re-working songs and dusting off old ones? I could swear I read that almost exact quote. So I went to 2 last Summer....both were the exact same setlist as the year before, but minus wings 1 and 2.
That being said, they are my favourite band and I will see them...hoping by some miracle I get to see one different song live. Eulogy!....just once and all the rest could be the same, and i'd be happy. Or The Grudge, or parabola...ugh.
I feel I spent 5 out of the 7 concerts perking my ears up in between songs and praying for a different song.
During their first tour of 10,000 Days (after the warm up tour) I with a group went to Montreal....got up close to the stage. During their break where they sit on the stage we started chanting "Eulogy Eulogy" and more people around us joined. Maynard heard....and wagged his finger "no"
That's my rant/ But I am excited to see them again...even IF the same, but am begging for at least 1 different song in the setlist.
I saw Metallica 4 times this tour...2 and a half hours every show, and every show was different by at least 6-10 songs.
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
Singing songs to open the same now healed wounds has to be tough. While it sucks that those songs are so F@#KING GOOD, singing about whatever affected Maynard to write the Grudge nine years ago, or Eulogy almost two decades ago eliminates their philosophy of self-growth because it would be perpetuating the same things, emotions, feelings that they felt then. Me, as a musician, when I look back at songs, lyrics, moods I wrote just four years ago, I think, "Wow, this feels so immature. Next!"
I bet they're in the same boat.
Don't expect 10,000 Days to ever be played again. I'm surprised Schism is still played. There are some deep wounds in those lyrics.
Then again, it made them...huge...
I think this is pretty spot on. You guys remember that Tool special in Revolver magazine when Maynard said that he regretted writing the lyrics to Prison Sex? Songs like that deal with painful memories, which is why I don't think you're going to see them live again.
Also, wasn't Maynard kinda coerced into last summer's tour by the rest of the guys? I think Adam, Danny, and Justin really wanted to do a tour and so Maynard was put in a tough spot and caved (I feel like I remember reading this somewhere) even though he had to miss an important part of the wine making season.
It feels like this tour wasn't as much of a spur of the moment deal, despite looking like it. I mean, we are drawing close to the five year mark. It's hard to read exactly what they're up to.
Summer tour --> record new album in the fall --> drop it in May of next year? Who the hell knows though, right? If we knew anything they wouldn't be the Tool we love and hate.
I just wish I'd seen as many shows as some of you guys here to be able to complain about the setlist, haha.

You are right about Maynard being talked into doing last years tour. He did not want to do that. He said it in interviews. Also I have seen Tool a bunch. I have seen the tours for Aenima, Lateralus and 10,000 days and I have no complaint about the set lists for any show I have been to. The only people complaining are the people that follow the band around to 10 different cities expecting to hear a different song or two.
I enjoyed every show...but went to that many also thinking "this may be the one".
If I DIDN'T go to one show and read the results and foudn out they played something different...i'd be crushed.
Here's hoping there's even a stop near me this time around. It's been a year, and even if the same setlist...I still want to experience it

I get that, I totally do. I've even said the same thing before here on TDN in an attempt to defend the set list. But even still I can't help but crave something surprising. I'm very much aware that Wings/10,000 days will never be played again, and I got my chance to see that live. I may not have absorbed it as well as i wanted to but... meh, I was there. It would just be nice if they left some flexibility in the set list so lets say... Maynard is kind of in a ticked of mood and wouldn't mind doing Hooker with a Penis, or Tick n Leeches, or Disgustipated, or even Hush.
And then do one's like Triad and Disposition and like I said, DEBUT INTENSION! Having 3-4 versions off the setlist to be used based on mood or venue would be nice is all.
They will do what they want to do in the end and I understand that and it wont stop me from seeing them.
Its just... cravings really.

Reflections live would be out of this world.
I would be grinning for a month if I got to see that, Eulogy, Pushit, The Patient, The Grudge, Jimmy, H, Parabola, Prison Sex, Part of Me, Jerk Off or Cold and Ugly live

This makes makes a Summer tour in 2010 even more of a head scratcher. He's just coming of a big tour with Puscifer that had to consume a lot of energy.
Maybe it was a package deal - "hey May May we want to do a tour this summer AND next summer too"
as far as the set list goes.
If we don't get a 50% turnover in songs, I will be EXTREMELY disappointed. I know we are always going to get Stinkfist but there are many songs that need a break.
One thing that is for sure it will be interesting to see how it goes down.

I'd bet good money that we won't get anywhere close to 50% turnover. Not trying to be pessimistic, but until the new album comes out, I think they'll stick with what they've been doing.
i can handle the same setlist again but I expect something added to it(didn't even get aenima last year) and excited to see what junior has in store for us. There's always something new every time

ok so lets look at it.
10 songs. So in my post I wanted a 50% turn over. That means 5 songs different.

1) Turn off your damn caps lock.
2) Last summers tour was not a "outdoor festival type tour". 4 Festivals out of 16 total shows.
3) The crowds were not there to see other bands. Tool headlined every festival day they played, and for the other 12 shows - I don't think Tweak Bird was THAT popular.

WHATS WRONG WITH DREAMING!?! Oh shit.. sorry kanaduh.

Hey, the dude lives in Kansas. If I was living there I think constantly refreshing Toolband would be the only logical thing to do.

Jambi
Stinkfist
46 + 2 or Opiate or Sober
Schism
Rosetta Stoned
D/R/T mabey a bit shortened but would replace wings?
Flood or Swamp Song
Aenema
Lateralus
Vicarious
although pretty much the same reflection would be nice as well as something to replace 46 and 2. Also kinda hope Lateralus is at the end. Or third eye. that'd be nice haha
^Uh-greed. I really hope they stop closing with Vicarious, especially after Lateralus. It's such an anti-climax.

Being a storm geek, yes, the weather is probably the only interesting thing out there. Well for me anyway.
