Random question: does anybody here happen to know HuntingtonSt? I'm sure almost all of you know of him, but I'm curious if anybody has actually met him or even chatted with him directly online. Does anybody think he has a direct connection to the band?
i hadn't noticed these new uploads, so thanks for that. i don't want to have to slodge through them all, can you recommend any with nice quality/awesomeness?
actually, ALL the 1993 ones are awesome. Here are, in my opinion, the most notable "new releases" though...notably, they are all soundboard or studio.
-72826 demo tape -- the definitive rip, by Galen, is out. Get it if you don't have it.
-1991-09-05 -- oldest known live recording of Tool (predates Opiate live tracks)
-1993-08-07 -- tabla on Opiate and Zach on Bottom
-1993-08-15 -- Hawaii show, great sound, long setlist
-1998-07-15 -- the original version surfaced again, probably the best sounding Tool bootleg out there
-1993-02-04 -- Galen likes this one a lot
-1993-06-11 -- for some reason I like this. better sound than 02-04
I'd recommend downloading them all though. hehe.

i may very well end up grabbing all of them, but this list seems like a good starting point for now. and im pretty sure these downloads are going to destroy my share ratio on dime, so i think i'll just make a new account for these. thanks again maan
Well, a lot of people are downloading these. So grab 'em fast and let 'em seed, you'll get your ratio back easily. Plus they only require a 0.25 ratio on DIME...that's pathetically low. Somewhere at least around 0.5 is reasonable I think. My DIME ratio is 1.26 and Zomb ratio is 2.20.
Just noticed on 1993-06-19 Adam's guitar dies at the end of Intolerance. Just like the 2001 Shoreline 'Undertow', you get to hear Tool drum n bass style.

^ agree with this. Just do the right thing and SEED. It's not a hard concept people. You downloading is helping the seeders out, and you uploading is helping the leechers out. Everyone wins.
also in this 6/19, a changed up Prison Sex intro riff. Never heard that before. The sound is pretty good on this one too, really sharp and clear, although occasionally there is some tape flutter which is present but not intrusive.

i realize my new account will be deleted soon, but that's just falls right into my plan. by tomorrow i'll have several new boots to listen to and wont have to worry about extra accounts or ratios. and maybe i'm just special but i can never get anything to seed once its done. i leave the torrents open but it never makes any indication that its doing anything. i can't figure it out.
and these are really good recordings. nice and fast download, too.

It's either port forwarding on your router, or you have a really slow internet connection. I find seeding tough mainly due to being in Australia.
Not true. I do seed 24/7.
I'm not saying I don't ever get any uploads, it's just that Bitorrent is smart enough to select the most effective peers, and when there's several thousand kilometres of ocean between you and most of the worlds seeding population, you don't tend to get as many.
Edit: I'm not trying to say don't seed 24/7, just that seeding 24/7 isn't some kind of magic fix if there are other technical issues.
I'm gonna have to call BS, dude. I'm sitting here seeding a particular torrent, and the majority of peers are from the UK, Finland, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Australia, etc.
It does suck when there are an overwhelming amount of seeds, because then everyone shares the load and each person ends up sending hardly anything. It's also a bummer if your upload speed just isn't that good (mine is about 170kb/s--I remember when it was 16kb/s). And if you only leave your computer on during daylight hours, you're missing out on the rest of the world's audience.
But as long as you have ports forwarded, it shouldn't matter where in the world you are. The internet works everywhere on the planet, and I've seeded my max bandwidth--hundreds of times--to peers on the other side of the world.

I don't want your mix and match sets though, or particular songs for the matter.
I'd prefer what is, in your opinion, the best overall sounding complete set. I like to get a sense of flow the set creates (prior to the 10k tour of course). I don't have aim but if you'd like me to copy and paste this post in a PM I will.

Fair enough. I know my ports are forwarded correctly though and that's not my experience.
Edit: My upload speeds never approach anything like 170kb/s. Download is fine, but upload never.

Well, your internet connection speed means everything. Are you in the Boonies of Oz or something?
Go to dslreports.com or something and see what your max bandwidth is. If you have a slow connection you won't be able to seed very fast no matter what your ports are up to. I don't know how or why but even with their shit service AT&T has suckered me in with their DSL and I'm up to like 1.3mb/s DL and 180kb/s UL. I remember it being 150kb/s DL and 16kb/s UL when I first got it many years ago, hehe. Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard that Aussie internet is very pricey and slow?
Listening now: 1993/06/20. Maynard before Sweat: "Ever listen to Joni Mitchell? I do. This is about the time I listened to every single one of Joni Mitchell's albums on some real good acid"

Compared to the US and other countries we are expensive and slow.
According to a speed test I just did I get 11905kbps download, and 821kbps upload. That'd be to the ISP's server. Regardless of that, the reality is that I rarely get upload speed in excess of 50mbps on torrents, generally it's less than 10.
I really don't worry too much though, I didn't want this to be a whole technical discussion. I maintain good upload ratios on a range of sites. My point was only that sometimes there are reasons why people don't get many uploads, and saying you should seed something 24/7 isn't really an answer.

YES!! PLEASE pay heed to this people! This dude IS a good seeder and sharer. Simply put, if it weren't for peeps like hushypushy, there simply wouldn't be all sorts of Tool (and other bands') live goodness to go around... whatsoever.

Well, your speed is pretty good. You divide bits by 8 to get bytes. So your download is 1488 kB/s and your upload is 103 kB/s, which isn't too shabby even by American standards.
WookieeBlaylock: thanks. The funny thing is I've probably seeded Tool shows to most of the people reading this. Plus there's GDSTM2. I <3 live Tool!

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion
My handle, screen name, nickname, whatever on those sites is 'StoneyG'. Definitely gotta repair my ratio, as my current internets aren't as epic when it comes to uploading.
And ditto; I don't recall the last time I listened to a Tool studio album from beginning to end. Shows on the other hand....

good show: 1993-06-04 Amsterdam, Netherlands. MJK: "Hi, we're Tool, we're from Los Angeles, and we're all really stoned." A bunch of mistakes in the show by Adam, Paul getting ridiculous and/or just sloppy with the way he plays his lines, and Maynard is pretty weird. Danny is rock solid, but I don't know anything about drums so I'm not 100% on that assessment.

"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
Did he work extensively with Nugent? I thought it was only a short period. Needless to say, he's a great drummer, but he's of that school of Carmine Appice and Bonham late 60's discovery of double-bass drumming. I don't know how to adequately describe Danny Carey's style besides "In a whole other galaxy." I don't mean ability, but DC's tom use is way different than anything I've heard in "popular" music. Speaking of which, Carmine Appice in Cactus is one hell of a fun CD. Toolheads, do yourself a favor and take a listen to Cactus. My dad still raves about them to this day when they blew Hendrix off the stage intensity wise haha
Can you imagine how annoyed Vinny and Carmine's parents must have been during the two brother's childhoods? haha

I think it was for a short time. Tommy is a good 80's drummer for sure. He really rounded out the Randy Rhodes line up for Ozz'y s band. His bare handed solo was a good way to stand out from the other drummers of the time..
After watching "Beyond The Lighted Stage" (again) I am newly (re) convinced that Peart is the greatest overall rock drummer of all time.
I bet DC would agree.
On that note, I was surprised that Danny didn't have more face time in that film, maybe his stuff ended up in the bonus features..

Any one hear of any melbourne solo shows aside from the big day out... i really don't want my first live tool experience to be along side bands like wolfmother and the infamous imminent death by big day out crowd.
so true... I am confident you will get a show, but us Queenslanders will probably miss out. I find that if you go to BDO to see lots of smaller bands, it is fun, but when you go to see the headliner, its always disappointing. I was pretty let down by their appearance in '07; Waited all day and then got a short set with the sound cutting out sporadically, so I am hoping for a side show, but buying a gold coast BDO ticket tomorrow anyway...

With two Sydney shows back to back a side show is looking a little less likely. They would have to play three days in a row or have a day off and then play the following night and again back it up down in Melbourne.

I'm also little concerned on the solo show front.
When Tool last came out for the BDO, the news of the solo shows came before the BDO announcement.
Now, all quiet on the Western Front.
The flip side is, no bands on the BDO have announced side shows... This may have been because the promoters were holding over the 27th potentially for the second Sydney BDO. Now that the first Sydney one sold out in about 0.8 seconds, and they've announced the second, hopefully now the promoters can get cracking and start announcing sideshows.
I'll take Tool at the Encent in Sydney and the Sid Myer Bowl in Melbourne again, thanks Lees and West.

Hopefully it still happens.
You guys will get some. I remember junior posting way-back-when that when Tool are touring they almost never get more than 2 days off in a row. So you (and when i say "you" I mean somewhere in Australia/New Zealand) could get something prior to Jan. 21, or something between Jan. 31 - Feb. 3 or after Feb. 7. Plenty of room for a few solo shows...
