But you changed that all for me.
Lifted me up, turned me 'round

So if I could I'd wish it all away
If I thought tomorrow, they'd take you away.
You're my peace of mind, my home
I said I'm just trying to hold on
One more day.
Damn my eyes.
Damn my eyes.
Damn my eyes.
If they should compromise
Or fall from what you need to find me then, (This line is still unclear to me)
I might as well be gone.
Shine on forever
Shine on benevolent son/sun
Shine down upon the broken
Shine until the two become one
Shine on forever
Shine on benevolent son/sun
Shine on upon the severed
Shine until the two become one
Divided I'm withering away
Divided I wither away
Shine on upon the many, light our way
Benevolent son/sun
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
So as one survive
Another day and season
Silence leech, and save your poison
Silence leech, and stay out of my way
(The last two lines are still unclear to me but this is the best interpretation i could find to fit)

I think it's "Hid from the king's...
Hid from the wild dream..."
Considering "Here from..." doesn't make any sense.
And I'm getting "No prize you could hold [could hold] sway
or justify my kneeling away: my sentence"
And I get "Dim my eyes
Dim my eyes
Dim my eyes if they should
compromise a hope of
wanting the divine need then I might as well be gone"
...which I think makes some sense in the context of the meaning of the song.
And I think it's "sun". But I guess we won't know for sure until they post the lyrics on toolband?
"Divide and wither it away"
And the last two lines I get as:
"Silently just save your poison
Silently just stay out of my way."

He's not saying "Damn my eyes" or "Dim my eyes".... i'm pretty sure he's saying "Jambi eyes". When I first saw the track listing, I though Jambi was pronounced (Johm-bee). Apparently, it's pronounced (Jam-bye). Jambi eyes.

Look, in the context of the lyrics..
Damn my eyes if they should compromise
makes a lot more sense
than
jambi eyes if they should compromise

Here is my current best guess.
Here from the king's mountain view,
Here from the wild dream come true,
Feast like a sultan I do,
On treasures and flesh never few,
But I, I would, wish it, all away,
If I, thought I'd, lose you, just one day,
The Devil and his had me down,
In love with the dark side I'd found,
Dabbling all the way down,
Up to my neck soon to drown,
But you changed that all for me,
Lifted me up turned me round,
So I, I, I, I, I would, I would, I would wish this all away,
Prayed like a martyr/potter/father? dusk til dawn,
Beg like a hooker all night long,
Shattered?/sheltered?/shafted the devil with my song,
And got what I wanted all along.
But I, I would, If I could, I would
Wish it away, wish it away, wish it all away,
Wanna wish it all away,
No pressure could hold sway
Or justify my
Kneeling away, my sinner?/center
So if I could I'd wish it all away, if I thought tomorrow they'd take you away.
Your my piece of mind my home I said I'm just trying to hold on, one more day,
Damn my eyes,
Damn my eyes,
Damn my eyes if they should comprimise
Or fall from what you need to find me then
I might as well be gone
Shine on forever
Shine on benevolent sun
Shine down upon the broken
Shine until the two become one
Shine on forever, Shine on benevolent sun
Shine out upon the sinner shine until the two become one,
Divided withering away, divided withering away
Shine out upon the many, light our way
Benevolent sun
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
So as one survive
another day and season
Silence leech, and save your poison
Silence leech and stay out of my way

Actually In love with the dark side I'd found makes perfest sense. He's saying he is in love with the dark side he has found. It's grammatically correct and fits within the context of the song better.

it is FELL open ya ears jesus christ oh mighty
and found dont make sense
in love with the darkness i found, dabbling all the way down
dont make much sense to me
but
in love with the darkness i FELL, dabbling all the way down
makes prefect sense think about the downward sprial
maynard is saying he fell in love with darkness and was dabbling
all the way down the sprial (if you dont know what dabbling means look it up)
and hes up to his neck soon to drown
then some one lifts him up
who ever says found is correct is a fool and needs to go back to grammar school

Look dude... "Fell" doesn't quite fit the rhyme scheme, now does it?
The Devil and his had me down
In love with the dark side I'd found
Dabbling all the way down
Up to my neck soon to drown
Sound's pretty clear to me at full, 70%, and half-speed.
You don't need to get all pissed off about it... we're each just doing the best that we can... I hope...

He FOUND the dark side, and fell in love with it.
"In love with the dark side (that) I (have) found"
(That) and (have) are in parentheses because they're understood to be there in the context of the sentence, but aren't needed for it to make sense. There's a grammar lesson for you.
Besides, there's a definite "ow" sound in there, which goes along with (rhymes with) the rest of the stanza... "down", "FOUND", "down", "round"

Yes it reminds me of Reflection as well. Haven't completely made the tie-in yet, but I think it's there.

I really think it's Shine on benevolent son. I think this may be his mother speaking to him. If you were to assume he is singing Silence leeches, save your poison. Silence leeches, stay out of my way you could assume the leeches are doctors. Save your poison, stay out of my way, it's time for me to die. This would make sense in the context of the story, because then he starts singing about how his mother is dead and needs her wings.

Oh lord... not this Dry Mana crap again. Lol. I don't understand why anyone thinks it was Maynard when some of the lyrics that he posted are obviously wrong. But... that's for another thread...

Well it could be "son", but no one is sure about the end yet. Assuming that he says "leeches" and then also assuming that "leeches" means doctors...I dunno... lots of assumption there.
Maybe he wrote the line so that it could be either "sun" or "son" though. I still like "sun", just because it says "shine down upon the many, light our way"... It just feels right to me.

The line "Or justify my Kneeling away, my sinner?/center", sounds like "or justify my kneeling away my sentence." to me and the closing lines sound like, " silently just take your poison, silently just take your love away."

hm...so i read the wiki exerpt as well as a tiny bit more from the original wiki entry and your post regarding a lateralus interpretation; i have to say that it's some interesting information and i do especially like your pasted smidgen that portrays baphomet as basically everything being in constant balance. i love the idea of neutrality in all things and any disturbance in one is countered by [here comes newton's lawsuit] an equal and opposite disturbance. it's a nice abstract idea and i've kinda clung onto this in some form since i saw 'o brother where art thou' and did some thinking. sounds dumb that i finally figured it out from a movie, but hey.
well ok back on track - i'm still not completely agreeing with you that this is what maynard is trying to reference in these pieces. i'll agree on lateralus possibly, but even then i thought he was more trying to exhibit that every boundary that ever existed for him was giving way. also i'm still not totally certain on jambi or intention, but honestly i don't think i care that much. i believe we're both bringing in our own biases here and arguing to fit our beliefs maybe so let's just leave it at that. you already said it wasn't the 'cheesy black metal satan' so that's good enough for me. haha.

Definitely agree on 'found' (although I think 'I found'). Matches the rhyming scheme of the other verses of the song too.

I have to say that the interpretation has nothing to do with my personal beliefs. It was just semi informed speculation based on some of the themes on Lateralus. Despite Maynards denial in that recently posted interview, Tool do frequently reference the occult (again listen to intention). However re-reading the lyrics to this particular song im now not certain this is about that, i think it may be about his mum again, although i have no idea what this two become one thing is i always thought it was the Crowley "From all one" (misquote) thing. Most of the time though Tools references to Thelmic Law, Hermeticism, and Gnostism in various forms are tongue in cheek, because they clearly dont believe in dogma of any kind.

LOL. I think this is directed at me. Haha... where to begin?
1) Um... nice post.
2) Coining a term by merging existing words together (like Aenema) is nothing new and has nothing at all to do with grammar... or being able to form a sentence that works.
3) If you actually read my post, you'll see that I never said that the lyrics are ALWAYS grammatically correct. Someone posted that "In love with the dark side I found" could not be right because it made no sense. I was merely showing that it did make sense, and why it made sense.
4) Wow... nice post.

Several people have said that right in this thread... Did you read it?
God I hope that's not what he's saying. I think I'd like the song a lot less.

"damn my eyes" is not a very common saying in the US, but it's very common in the UK and Ireland especially.. it's used in a variety of ways but the way i've heard it used most often is like "damn my eyes if i'm lying" or "oy, ye bastid, where've ya been, damn yer eyes!"
in the context of this song he seems to be saying that he should be struck blind if he fails to be what his son needs him to be, namely a good father. or that's my take on it anyway.
"jambi eyes" is just....... no.

I am pretty sure that it is Shine on benevolent sun. In the context that this song talks about the religious worship of a sun god. This is considering Jambi from the geographical perspective that they are this native people years ago praying to the sun. Shine on benevolent sun makes a hell of a lot more sense than song or sun. The devil is night time and the part where he says:
But you changed that all for me.
Lifted me up, turned me 'round
reminds me of sunflowers rising and turning to face the sun.
I could be talking out of my ass but i really think this song is referring to worship of a sun god.

IT's both sun and son it's a play on words. and I do hear jambi I the first time he says it but it changes into damn my eyes. there's deffinatly a "j" sond to it at the beginning, also a play on the words.
there is a grey area in the lyrics neither is right or wrong.

Here from the king’s mountain view
Here from the wild dream come true
Feast like a sultan, I do
On treasures and flesh never few
But I
I would
Wish it
All, away
If I
Thought I’d
Lose you
Just one day
The devil and his has me down
In love with the dark side I’d found
Dabbling all the way down
Up to my neck soon to drown
But you changed that all for me
Lifted me up turn me round
So I
I
I
I
I would
I would
I would
Wish
This
All
Ah-way
Prayed like a martyr dusk to dawn
Beg like a hooker all night long
Shout to the devil with my song
And got what I wanted all along
But I
And I would
If I could
I would
Wish it away
Wish it away
Wish it all away
Wanna wish it all away
No pressure could hold sway
Or just a fine line
Kneeling away, my sinner
So if I could I’d wish it all away
If I thought tomorrow, they'd take you away
You’re my piece of mind, my own
I said I’m just trying to hold on
One more day
Damn my eyes
Damn my eyes
Damn my eyes, well they should compromise
All hope from what you need to find me
Then I might as well be gone
Shine on forever
Shine on benevolant sun/son
Shine down upon the broken
Shine on ‘til the two become one
Shine on forever
Shine on benevolant sun/son
Shine down upon the severed
Shine on 'til the two become one
Divide and wither in our way
Divide and wither on our way
Shine down upon the many, light our way
Benevolent sun/son
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
Breathe in union
So as one
Survive another day and season
Silently, just say your poison
Silently, just stay out of my way
