I posted this in the Lateralus section too, I'm not sure where it should technically be but I guess it's someone else's job to figure that out.
Here's my cover of "The Grudge"...I do cover songs in my garage when I have free time on an 8 track recorder, and this is my latest one:
http://www.myspace.com/sterileeyes1
Click the link and it should play automatically. There's also covers by Alice In Chains, System of a Down, and STP posted at the moment if you're interested.
A couple disclaimers:
1 - The drums are one take on a five piece, so don't expect Danny Carey's million dollar and million piece drum sound
2 - I'm not Maynard, but I sure tried my best.
I know Tool are worshipped like gods as they should be...so I hope this doesn't offend anyone.
I hope you enjoy, feel free to download, comment, share, etc!

I like how it doesn't sound exactly the same as Tool.
Edit. Your drummer isn't limited by the size of his drums but by his abilities. He's still really good, though.

Not bad. You definitely have talent. My only gripe was the awful mastering and cruddy bass tone. But other then that, pretty good. Like your guitar tone, pretty close to Adam's sound.

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has posted a reply on here or sent me a message on Myspace. I have covered 11 bands in the last 6 months or so, and I was definately the most nervous at the idea of recording a Tool song and sharing it with Tool fans. I am pleasantly surprised that people seem to be enjoying it. The amount of kind encouragement I've received in the last two weeks is just amazing and I can't thank you enough.
Cheers, can't wait for 10,000 Days!

Shit man, that is bad ass. Them Bones really kicks, too - you nailed Layne and Jerry's harmonization and used some interesting effects on the vocals in both songs. I like the MySpace comment that says: "Of course you pick one of tool's easiest songs to cover". Classic.

Good effort. The parts with the layered vocals ('wear the grudge like a crown') are great.
(Edit:) You're doing all the instruments right? Impressive.

This was recorded in his garage on an 8-track recorder, not a multi-million dollar studio. Plus, he played all the instruments himself - impressive to say the least.

I loved it. Your own detail and it's not half bad at all.
I can't afford much at all and have only been playing guitar for about 2 years now, but all i have aquired is a Gibson Les Paul and a pretty "ok" Fender Side-kick amp.
But i work well enough with it.
But , i'm being honest, i was jammin' to it...so i give you a 4½ out of 5..

Nice work brother - you've got clear talent - passion comes through - I really like the sound of your voice during the verses of the STP cover.....noticed you listed QOTSA as an influence - if you've done a cover I'd love to hear it - but don't consider this a request!
keep at it - your hard work will pay off....

Actually yeah I covered "Someone's In The Wolf"....The Grudge was the 10th out of 11 covers that I recorded, and the Queens one was the 2nd, so the sound will be a little more 'rough', but I think it came out pretty heavy sounding. Here's the link:
http://www.myspace.com/sterileeyes
That's my other page, I don't usually update/promote it...there's also a 311 cover and some original stuff that's probably 2 or 3 years old now. Hope you enjoy the Queens.

Holy shit. I'm very impressed. I actually really enjoyed listening to this, rather than most decent covers where I sit there thinking, "This is one of the better ones I've heard, and it'd actually be good if..."
I'd have to say the only actually weak point (as opposed to the parts that just aren't up to Tool's standards...) is the insanely fast drumming at the end.
This makes me want to do two things....
Listen to Lateralus....
...And find some people in my area who will play this kind of music....and play it well...so that I can sing! I'm no Maynard, but I love singing this stuff. And I'm tired of just singing along with the album.
Kudos, keep up the good work.

Re: My cover of "The Grudge"

By the way, I like the Offspring cover. You actually sound a lot like Davey Havok of AFI on this track. With just enough Dexter in there to sound like The Offspring.

Thanks...you're not the first person to say I sounded like AFI on that track...which is weird cause I've heard one song of theirs ever I think.
And I so just got floor tickets to both Staples Center shows, I just had to brag about that :)

I love how it's the most played there, puts a really big smile on my face.
It's like AFI meets Tool, you did this very well, I enjoyed it much my brother.
Rock on!!! GIDDIE-UP BITCH!
