ok, I bought lateralus for 14$ in 2001.. Why is 10,000 days selling for 10$ (some places selling for 9.77)?

This doesnt make any sense, Tool is a Huge band ( in an underground kind of way ), anyone who is a fan would buy this album for 14$ instead of 10$. whats another 4$ right?

lets say they go double platinum again. 2,000,000 x 4 = 8,000,000 $ profit... just a thought...

can anyone explain?

I'm sure its to sell more by means of a lower cost. Gets more fringe fans to bite.

It could be supply and demand. So may people have been downloading albums that in order to get people to buy an album you must make it cheaper or affodrable. I dont know I could be wrong.

coz even $10 for a compact disc is a 1,000,000% mark up and they will be fine.

I am going to get it Monday night at midnight, at a special release party thing. I figure they will jack up the price on it that night, since everyone there will buy it anyway.

Isn't just about every CD $10 now on release? In fact I read this a while ago now, walmart is demanding that CD's be able to be retailed for $10 - http://bigpicture.typepad.com/commen...t_wants_1.html

Don't certain stores sell media (CDs, DVDs) at a discounted price on the day that they're released for promotional purposes? I'm in the US, and that's what a lot of large chain stores (i.e. Circuit City) do over here.

Vedhead... if you're going to Oakland, I hate you cuz I'm not. Just kidding. =P Be a bubi and record it, will ya? =D

Most CD's and DVDs the week they come out are cheaper than they are the following weeks. The first weeks are all about getting as many sales as they can...to get their cd out there...then friends possibly like the songs and then they go buy the album. There are other reasons too basic business stuff.....btw i work at best buy...so i know a bit about this.

I paid $10.98 for the album on Amazon. Also, JeffSnow, the "$" goes in front of the numbers.

That extra $4 woulda gone to the record store, not TOOL. It's just that they're realising that people don't want to get ripped off every time they buy a CD, so they're lowering their profit margins a little.
