If September was never

I don't remember why I came,
But I remember why I went
And it all ends the same.
If I put my life upon the altar
Of this shame, would my blood
Be the same as the martyr
Who gave us the last saving grace
And founded a place where
Vagrants could leave the vagabonds
And chains tattered on the streets.
Do you remember how we got drunk
Before getting stuck next to a test kit
That we wouldn't use to build the next
Bomb trip over some town I never heard
Of, but they claimed Osama was hiding.
How much longer are we going to be fighting?
We used to joke, two more weeks and we'll
Be flying back to Germany, spend a week
Government funded partying in exchange
For us not being able to claim tours we
We were actually serving. How many innocent
Lives did CNN report today?
Weren't we innocent when we came?
Today was Tate's last day, they docked
His pay for the rest of the week, 'cause he was dead.
He had just met his new bride,
She left Bayside for nowhere Idaho,
Now she's one of the many forgotten widows,
Who'd of known, if I did I'd trade places
And let Tate go home to beautiful embraces.
I don't deserve any smiling faces.....

>>>A1C Tate, I won't forget bro.....especially today, remember we were getting drunk watching MNF and then everything changed.....
