Forgotten were the world

I remember that face, she
Used to smile, but was in a space
I could never get to, see, we were
Friends in a place where that was more
Needed then the crazy relationship
Wasteland that was our youth.
I remembered the way we used to go
Down to the creek away from the family
That seemed to be ready for the worst
Because fate seemed to bring that to our
Table first, with little help on our part to
Do anything about it, save get down and pray
For the rain to stay away, even though we
Live in a state where there is an 80% chance of rain.
I remember the stain of a million sad summer days
That I used to wear like a badge of some betrayal,
And lost when I was made into the soldier trained to fail
Those who sit and wait to see what comes of
These fool's fate. Soldier of fortune and fame and celebrity
Am I not, just I was able to do very little and
By then it was too late. I'm sorry babe, I never wrote
I couldn't I was away where I could never see your face,
Except everyday. Children are we not and
Never husband and wife will we be because of the
Things I've seen and now must set right, in my own vain
Plight to get what I gave, to set right nothing more then
A forgotten moment of madness and tyranny that
Is no one's blame, even Him, would I were strong,
Maybe I could come along and accept happiness,
But in truth my heart fears this word and world,
I decided to be stupid in the face of a smart choice
No longer wanted, in this chase I call my life.
Don't stop to wonder why, just smile and nod
And accept all the applause that will keep you good
And safe and without sorrow.
