Like all of us the members of Tool have holes in there arses,
and its my subjective opinion this 10,000days album
or 'leak' fell right out of them.
I am sorry but I cant force myself to like just whatever
Tool decides to artistically produce, no disrespect to
them. I know some of you feel the same, and some
don't of course.
If you love this new material, great, move on, these
words have no bearing on your emotional state.
I love Tool because in the past what they produced
and what they stood for was the exceptional, artistically
and philosophically.
In my view this new material, if it is the legit album,
is mediocre from my perspective. To lift it to the level
of exceptional for the sake of the members of Tool, and
to save face amongst other fans, undermines my own
personal connection with past material, degrades
the value of these connections and the music I've come
to love.
Lets hypothetically say Tool did serve us unquestionably
shit on a stick. How would we all be behaving? I tend to
think exactly how we are all right now in these forums.
Like a bunch of 'talking monkeys' throwing fist to ground.
Bananas good! Bananas bad! Bananas good! Bananas bad!
Perhaps this is the true indicator of meritocracy, the war
cry of supremacy.
This to me, is what 10,000 days will become about. Tragedy,
because many of us will be torn between instinct and higher
thought. Tool in the past captured both facilities in me, I didn't
have to think about loving them, I instinctualy did, and when I
thought deeply about it, I did as well. I shouldnt have to train
myself out of dissonance thru reiteration.
My point, before raising our fist to chant just how much we
Love or Hate, think and question the absoluteness of it.
My mediocre thoughts, flame on wingnuts.

I don't think it could have been said any better. I have loved tool for 10+ years now and I can't "FORCE" myself to like this album, with their other music I never had to, it just hooked my instantly, not this one. Good review and I respect your opinion.

I havent heard the album I guess i shouldnt be here but everyone seems to take this leaked cd with a sadness which maybe is the whole point of the cd. I know its not what you expected, but still you have expressed a mood in agreeing with the album and alot of people have. Agreeing we are the monkeys and bananas are good bananas are bad or undertow good, aenema good, lateralus good, 10000 days bad. I dunno but the way you write seems like you wouldnt be dissapointed in where Tool goes, but just accept. The album is about others perspectives so thats how im opening my mind when I buy it.

This 10k-days is a test, decoy or not. A test of our tollerance
of those that feel a connection to things on a different level.
Listening to Tool made me want to push myself, and growing
up with them as a backdrop made me feel that it was ok to
try and find my own answers for lifes harder questions.
If this has changed and I've lost this backdrop I worry about
the barrage of cognative backdrops that will try and fill the void
and spoon feed me 'Truth'.
Ive been working on writting something for which I have no
outlet really.. if youre curious, you might find it stimulating, or
maybe not.. its draft =)

Tool can go wherever they want artistically, but if this is there new path
then I need to part ways for a bit I feel. For me this album(currently) has no apex, sad or not.
My post however was about more then just my perception, but what appears to be a negative shared perception of 10,000days and how to come to terms with it. If it was said this is what we deserve for getting our grubby hands on material before its offically released I'd agree.

I can't count the number of threads I've seen proposing a possibility for the whereabouts of the real album that end up only to be chastised and crucified by people who say:
"If you don't like 10,000 Days, you're not a real Tool fan."
"This is the real deal; quit denying it."
"You're such a dumb ass conspiracy theorist."
...And really…not one of those opinions is true. Disliking the leak that’s been given to us does not un-render you a Tool fan. Think about it, why would someone dislike a leak from a band? Because in their mind, it doesn't hold up to any previous work. I just don't see how setting a high standard for any band's future release can make someone anything BUT a good fan. I have seen many people on this board say they did not like 10,000 Days…and you know what, I totally agree with them. I just can’t see a band that releases masterpieces like Ænima, Salival, and Lateralus regressing down into something like 10,000 Days. Granted, this is only an opinion, but it is a valid one.
Now, for the REAL reason these theories of fakes are emerging.
To put it simply, they are giving Tool the benefit of a doubt. They are offering them another chance to show that they can still amaze us as a group with great music. I think we can all agree that this supposed album leak has done nothing to unite our opinions. I’m not naïve; I know everyone has their personal tastes and distastes about music. But like it’s been said before, the Lateralus leak did not trigger the kind of controversy that this alleged “10,000 Days” leak has. For the past week, we have all seen the countless threads discussing what hints and clues might be proving the decoy theory. People have been jumping left and right looking for a reason to consider the leak a fake. And you know what…I whole-heartedly support them. I’ll say it again: they are giving Tool the fucking benefit of a doubt.
PS: I, for one, believe that there is something more to all this.

Yeah, fuel is getting expensive, our government is dangerous and fraudulent, and we're suffering from a pretty heavy drought. Besides that we're doing ok. Thanks.

Like I said, IN THEIR MINDS, 10,000 Days can in no way be the real deal.
I'm not offering another theory here, I'm trying to get people to understand how they see it. Everybody goes through a faze of denial in cases of extreme disappointment. Everybody. But I'm so glad that you're above human and above succumbing to basic human emotions.

From an factual point, I'm not convinced either way. There's no real proof. And there won't be until they arrive at the stores in Australia.

I'm still incredibly amazed at how so many people seemed to have the exact same thought as me, though. Hoax or not, this is still a monumental event. If it's a hoax, it's the best belated april-fools and 420 joke ever.... if it's not a hoax, it's the best episode of mass hysteria/delusion. I put myself in the hoax camp, but I'm willing to accept that all bands must suck eventually, if this turns out to be real.

That sums it up perfectly for me as well. You my friend should be a writer!

I'm still torn.
On one hand I really like the "leaked 10,00 days" on the other it is both not what I expected and I am a little dissapointed.
I also think some of the theories hold some real merit. BUT I didn't think Lateralus was as good as Aenima in the first week. And despite the fact that some people don't like the "leak" I LOVE IT!
I am able to be both slightly dissapointed (mainly because it lacks a central theme that I can phathom and does not flow as well as the last 2) and really enjoying it (worst of the last 3 albums it may be but these songs ARE amazing and way better than any album put out since Lateralus!).
But either way I am enjoying the whole debate, it's exciting regardless of what the truth turns out to be.

While this is all great for those who are on the internet constantly downloading the leak, think of the people who don't really care for logging onto the internet and spending countless hours on it? There are those who aren't as dependent on the internet, so to see "10,000 Days" on the shelves, or see the promotionals for it....it would make no sense to have it be fake.
the whole "fake" album thing is ridiculous. Those who are putting faith into the idea, are basically stating that Tool, collectively, is in a way "rewarding" those who download music.
Lets say for a second, that Tool did write a decoy album. A lot of money, and a lot of time, just to pull a prank on internet folk?
I don't believe it. But some do, and I'm not condeming you for it, I'm just stating that in my opinion, its far fetched. We'll see in a week.
