Some mystery surrounds this brief moment on the album. Speculation of what the listener hears can be interpreted many different ways... some may hear mutated whales under water.. perhaps others will hear layers of deep meditational chanting... who could it be? Is there a message here? The truth behind the track is that it is not played by any instrument or any member of Tool... in fact Mantra is a debut performance of a very special guest who also happens to be very close to one of the band members...
hmmm...
does anyone know anything about this?

Maynard squeezed his cat one day and slowed it down to about a minute.

The reason God can never be disproved is because he can be defined as just about anything...and the reason he can be defined so freely is because there's absolutely no evidence for his existence. So...God can't be disproved because there's no evidence for him?! Does this strike anyone else as the least bit absurd?

its not original at all...picked it up off someone that posts here
I never said you made it up, only that I liked it. When I quoted you, it automatically says "Originally posted by...." I didn't mean that you were the VERY first one.
slayer sucks in my opinion. tell me what you like about Slayer, in a detailed explination.
pleeeease
I don't feel like being detailed.
Mostly the way they sound.
Playing their songs on guitar is very very fun once you get good at it. (Though I still can't do much of it...especially the solos.)
Their live shows are fucking awesome in my opinion. I have their live stuff: the CD, the VHS, and the DVD. I've also been to one of their live shows...it was one of the best nights of my life (because of Slayer).
Their music is very controversial, which can be cool. Even though the band members themselves aren't actually Satanic...They pretty much admit that their music is controversial just because...(which is good, 'cause I don't support most of their lyrics).
Some of their lyrics are very good too. Example:
Fictional Reality (this is the song name)
Crisis feeds the lunacy
All fear the new machine
Consumed democracy returns a socialist regime
It's laid to rest without contest
All hail the new incompetence
Making you see what to believe
A drone in the world of anarchy
Treachery, mysery, violence, insanity
Scavengers closing in
Covering the truth again
Castrate society
Fictional reality
Insecurity afraid of things you cannot see
Words become the image of the enemy
You cannot dissect what is correct
Vengeance based on how things are said
Can't see your side - conflicts with mine
Frustrations lead to complete demise
Treachery, mysery, violence, insanity
Scavengers closing in
Covering the truth again
Every trial conspiracy
Compassion is the enemy
Paralyse, criticize
Breaking through the wall of lies
Suicidal hierarchy racing in reverse
Everything that's done today will be tomorrow's curse
Screams in my head preceed your death
Can't hold the rage when the truth is shed
Blind lead the blind line after line
In a world too shallow to defy
Treachery, mysery, violence, insanity
Scavengers closing in
Covering the truth again
Castrate society
Fictional Reality
haha, god. does it really matter that much? i never said he was a noob...i dont think that i am...but maybe i am just because i didnt look at the FAQ before asking a simple question...if that bothers you...i dont know what to say...i couldnt care one way or the other if i was considered a noob or not...but, just for the record, i am sorry that i didnt not look in the FAQ for this simple question.

this thread should have been at most, maybe 5 posts long. Or it could have gone Question, answer, thanks. This reminds me of the Predictablility thread, how most posts just turn into flame wars. Come on guys, don't be like this.
Can I have a blowjob?
1. He was talking to FJ
2.Do you not think before you speak?

1. I don't think I flammed on this post...
2. And we're typing, not speaking...which I think only makes your point make more sense. (so don't get mad at me for flamming with this post)
alright bitch, if you want to be technical and nit-picky, and show how witty and smart you are, you spelled flamed wrong.
I shouldn't have posted this, because it just contradicts what I said(...go ahead..) earlier, but I just wanted to point it out to you. I was just trying to say, we can do without this kind of stuff.
Have a good night.

I wasn't being nit-picky. I was helping your point. I also asked you not to flame me for it because of that. I guess you just flamed me for helping you...hope you're proud.
And I'm a very bad spellier. You'll see many spelling mistakes in my posts (probably).
EDIT: I never said I was witty. (and with the post you responded to, I wasn't trying to be)
I believe that some of the sounds created on "Mantra" were done by Adam Jones using one of his many errrr.... creative uses of the Epilady (a device used for hair removal) and the rest were just done electronically; however, I could be wrong. It's happened before, and it will probably happen again.
Be peaceful,
James

I sure hope it was an epilady. I'm not going to listen to a band that tortures animals. If it was really a cat, I'm going to sell all of my Tool cds and buy the new Primus DVD thing. Les is nice to animals.
