I know, I hate to build expectations, but it's not going to take these lighting/visuals guys a week to rehearse the show they've been putting on for the past couple years. So it leads me to believe that they are putting in significant new elements. And that leads me to believe there will be some significant changes to the setlist. Maybe 2-3 different songs? I guess we'll find out soon!

Worth noting that in an earlier part of this thread, I asked junior about the new lighting I saw for Anema after the performance at US Air Arena in AZ last summer and he said he worked it out the day of the performance. So agree that what millermt says has at least some merit if they are going to work this far ahead of the actuial performances. junior and crew are some of the best in business so even if we get the same music setlist, you can believe the light "setlist" is going to be current and even ahead of the curve in terms of innovation.
Don't hype it too much.
It'll be a bit different, but we're not talking leaps and bounds.
Again, I just hope most people enjoy it.
Ha! Thought you were gone already! Much respect to you of course but I do think you guys do a great job and are pretty modest about it. Not hype, just my opinion. Set list whiners aside, you should not think people don't notice when you change it up- we do.

I wonder if they will have the floor be GA?
Edit: TM shows a reserved floor. I wonder it if that will stick.

I have 3 tool tickets for sale all together to the vancouver show july 9th. I am only asking face value for the tickets, they are $85 a piece. They are in section 106 row 22. Let me know if you are interested in them. I am located near seattle.
whats this about maynard performing tonight at the staples center with billy howerdel... facebook.com/ashesdivide ......anyone going?
I was afraid of that- dang it! Could've been there since I had an invite. But still traveling. I'll ask my friends who went how it was and report back.
Well, it's good to know Maynard can still sing. I wish he would just sing like this live with Tool. Unfortunately, he always tries to make the vocals raspy and dark during Tool shows by singing more from his throat, and it ends up taking away from the integrity of his voice. Maybe he will have realized this after touring with Puscifer.
I think I actually have to agree with that statement withspirit. I never could put my finger on it. I remember seeing Puscifer shows, and it was so refreshing being able to hear his vocals crisp and clear, not lost in the mix as has become the norm lately.
Not dissing his vocals, if anything, I think the sound could be fixed from the console. I mean, it's Tool, its their mix, their choice and its been communicated before that they don't like having vocals mixed up front so that it 'rests' in the music better. Hell, I'm a huge proponent of that philosophy with vocals, but I like to be able to HEAR the subtlety. Sometimes those subtleties that Tool is so famous for are simply washed over or barely discernible. Again, I don't think this is his due to his voice, I think its how they've chose to do the mix.

Yea, they mix the vocals low, but I believe it is partly his voice. You can listen to it on all of the youtube videos of live Tool shows. You can tell he sings from his throat more than he should when he sings with Tool live. It's more difficult for him, and that's obvious from the fact that he is frequently off key and frequently struggling to hit high notes. If he would just sing cleanly from his diaphragm like he does for everything else, Tool shows would sound 100% better because the vocals melodies would be accurate. I understand that Tool is supposed to be much different from anything else, but Maynard has got to ditch the mystique and the raspy, low style and start singing clearly. It would also be easier on his vocal chords and throat in general.

I don't think this performance really tells us much about his voice. Maynard's problem recently has always been the way he screams, not the way he sings. The Queen cover sees him singing some high notes, but at no point does he really scream like he does in Tool songs (the end of Vicarious for example).
Also consider that it's easy to pull off something like this for just one night. I'm reasonably sure Maynard knows that he can't scream night after night as is required at Tool shows, and as a result the level at which he sings is toned down in order to get through a tour.

dont take offense to this, but um, until YOU sell millions of records and have a cult like following of die hard fans, you really shouldnt be giving vocal advice to maynard.

And you know what? He's not alone. They ALL do this, and have done it for about as long as screaming/singing in tandem have been around.
And the ones that don't? Really, REALLY sound like shit at almost every show.
Man, all of my friends bailed for this Vegas trip. I even actually got permission from the wife. Am I really considering taking 2 vacation days and spending $400 to fly out there alone to see it? Not to mention the room cost. What to do...

While the band isn't touring behind any new material — its last album was 2006's 10,000 Days — the frontman says Tool are quietly working on a new disc that'll be released "when it's ready." But they're considering testing out some new material live. "We're always writing," Keenan says. "If it comes together, yeah, you'll hear some new stuff. If it's not ready, you won't."
