^ That is excellent to see. The Package, Blue and Magdalena. No Gravity... but ok. At least they're showing they've planned to vary up the set list. Good news!
Assuming they're playing them like they did during the short run last fall, almost all the Emotive songs are quite different from the album, and really amazing live.
Especially Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie. Totally different take on it, and really good. You're lucky if you get to see that one.
I just read an article and it quotes Billy Howerdel as saying:
"This is really a very late eMOTIVe tour," Howerdel says. "We never toured on that album. We released it in late 2004 after we were done on the Thirteenth Step (APC’s second full-length album, released in 2003) tour, so in all intents and purposes this is it, this is the tour displaying those songs."
And they played every single song on eMOTIVe--wow! Except "Freedom of Choice" (is that because Josh isn't there?) and of course, the one fucking song I want to hear, "Let's Have a War."

People Are People (Depeche Mode cover)
Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums

Now that I can get into! Just move Imagine to the encore so I can beat the traffic and I'm good!
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
I have an extra pair for the Cincy show at PNC Pavilion that I would love for someone here on ToolNavy to use rather than some random person. PM me if interested. Face value of course.

well, i posted the link and said that i liked the music, but thought it was fucking lame that maynard is "about to turn it up to 11"
i'm not especially excited to hear the album after the disappointment that was the last ep, but i'll still illegally download it and check it out.
I thought " C is for..." was the best album so far...BUT Ive also been listening to Thirteenth Step alot lately...who knows my mood is all messed up..I need new TOOL

i listened to it for a while when it came out, and i love the live songs on there, but the original material got old really fast, and i hate humbling river. polar bear is the only track from the album that i listen to nowadays.
i still love the entire v for vagina album and i've had it since it came out.
I think Potions is the best song on that album. Trent Reznor and Maynard!!!!
Maynard sounded Awesome!!! The scream at the end of The Outsider was epic. The songs from Emotive were surprising really good live, especially Gimme Gimme Gimme. Gravity was great and so glad we got Magdalena instead Orestas. I think my favorite song from the night was Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums. That song was great live.
Went to the same show and I couldn't agree more.
Maynard sounded the best I've heard him in a long ass time. I didn't expect them to play Judith though. I feel like those screams are far too intensive for Maynard.
Man. Just got back from Boston APC... All I have to say is unless you are a weird person who really likes eMotive don't waste your time. More on it tomorrow when I can get on a computer... On iPhone now.

Update (gf is asleep and im not haha). Ok... so... very very average performance.
I guess I was just disapointed because I took a hiatus from TDN until this show... I didnt look at any setlists at all for this tour because I wanted to be surprised. Last time I saw APC was in 2004 in Worcester MA and this was the set:
Vanishing
Pet
The Hollow
Magdalena
Weak and Powerless
Orestes
Blue
Thinking Of You
A Stranger
The Package
3 Libras
The Nurse Who Loved Me
(Failure cover)
Thomas
The Outsider
The Noose
Judith
Not too shabby eh? Was a phenomenal show back then to say the least. tonight was NOTHING like that set.
This set was similar if not the same to all of the previous ones... from what I remember tho we got something like 70% emotive songs... which in my opinion... well... fucking suck. they even did that fucking shitty remix of pet versus the good original version. no judith, no the package.... the only song I was stoaked to see was gravity because i remember that i didnt see that in 2004. orestes was my favorite song of the night.
read a few posts in this thread saying something along the lines of "hey maynard sounded great"... well yeah maybe he did but who gives a shit if all of the songs suck? dont kid yourself. everyone in the audience was sitting down and yawning... literally... when the emotive songs were going on... which was most of the time.
makes me REALLY WISH that i bought a plane ticket and saw a 2010 tool show.... which i purposly did not buy a ticket to because i was fucking pissed at the band for their piss poor 2009 performances.... guess i really havnt been lucky recently maynard wise. maybe this is karma for seeing the mansfield 2007 show?
anywho... i have a red rocks ticket to APC. I am going to be selling it. if anyone in this thread wants it for face or even below face send me a message and i will sell it to you.

Damn, that '04 setlist is tittays. Sucks it wasn't what you were hoping, I agree the current sets are lacking a certain oomph.
To be honest, I hope the crowd in Phoenix remains seated, I'd like to relax and enjoy the set.

Dude I was pretty bummed that I didn't get tickets but your post is making me feel a lot better about it.
my first APC show ever. (apposed to 26 tool and 4 puscifer)
quick thoughts:
-festivals suck. only an hour long set? lame. APC the opener for "rise against"? even more lame.
-junior is still awesome. talked to him for a bit. Unfortunately because APC went on so early in the day there was no light show at all that was visible to the crowd. junior wasn't even given a setlist because he essentially had no purpose being there.
-James Iha is the fucking man. loved him wearing a suit. going to go listen to more pumpkins later tonight.
-maynard was wearing a wig. decent vocals.
-regarding setlist: it sucked. most people already mentioned this though. obviously in the defence of APC they only had 1 hour which was not much. still - no Magdalena or The Noose made me a very sad panda.
-i want to point out that the highlight of the night was by far Counting Bodies Like Sheep. I LOVE THIS REMIX. I disagree 100% with the above reviewer who said "that fucking shitty remix.." etc. It's now one of my favourite APC songs and they absolutely nailed it live. i recommend y'all listen to it again.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but...
maybe it's karma for throwing such harsh and bratty insults at pieces of art that people you say you respect put a shitload of time and effort into? You don't have to be a sheep, I guess. But "this sucks" and "that fucking sucks" is, well, kind of a "fucking sucky" attitude.
If I liked a band but thought that many of their songs "fucking suck," I probably wouldn't go through a lot of trouble to see them hoping for my dream setlist.
Forgive me if I read this here, but I recently remember reading a Maynard quote where he said Counting Bodies Like Sheep was actually the second part of Pet, and not a remix. Just throwing it out there.
I didn't know Junior was doing this tour, that's good news, I'll try to say hi at the Phoenix show.
All I'm going to say in regards to not playing the songs everyone wants to hear is: I wish Tool did it.

I understand the frustration.
Personally, I was extermely excited to see that Nardo was seemingly enjoying his self at my concert. At my show he was stomping his foot and getting really really into the music. So I guess that kept me distracted from the setlist.
Plus, I saw them when they came around for the mini-tour and watched the entire 13th Step album live...soo it was more cool for me to watch the eMotive songs since I had already got my dose of 13th Step.

... that's all for now.
I hate to break it to you, but almost every APC show this summer has been around an hour long. They're way too fucking short. And THAT'S what really pisses me off, because they could extend it an hour or so.

I hate to break it to you, but every non-festival setlist I've seen they played around 18 songs. Call me a poor mathematician perhaps, but I can't see how they could play 18 songs in an hour. I'd imagine all of those 18 song shows went for well over 90 minutes.

It just doesn't add up...
I'm fucking pumped for next Monday. This is the only show I have all summer.
Although, after this week of announcements, I'm excited for Portishead, Amon Tobin and possibly Trentemoller all in October.

Paradox! I bought the tickets to this tour way before I knew what kind of garbage they'd be playing, or that Josh wouldn't even be there.
i guess i go to so many shows, and have seen my favorite bands enough times that i know wut they will play, and if i will want to see their show. i mean i knew right away, i was all set with apc, cuz i figured it would be mostly emotive. not that i dont like those songs, but there are other bands id pay to see, and would be ecstatic regardless of the songs they chose to play.

I saw them in Kent Washington and it was probably just under 90 minutes.

in other news, i'm going to see God is an Astronaut next month. it's the most excited i have been for a concert since tool @ red rocks. sadly, even more so than APC.
When I saw them on the album tour, I was right in the front center, hanging off the rail. I could see the pores on Billy's nose, but the sound was awful due to the location. Next time I'm gonna pick a location just to get good sound.
I remembered that because The Package sounded so fucking muddy and awful when I saw them, I was really disappointed.

For night 1 I was right in the sweet spot at the Filmore and it sounded near flawless. Night 2 I was back by the soundboard it it was pretty clear back there as well.
