to the new lady: the band doesn't read this board, even though they were VERY GENEROUSLY given reserved usernames
i personally am offended by their lack of interaction.
[/bogsnarth]
Huh, and I was stupidly hoping they ARE, however I was afraid to ask about it. ;)
How about their interaction? I've read somewhere that TDN was one of the first or even the very first site to have official lyrics sent by Maynard.

Bogs cleared up the TDN/Toolnavy confusion, but ill add this...
There was some interview with maynard I read recently, the interviewer asked him something along the lines of 'Do you read what fans say you music is about?' and he responded 'GOD No!'. I'd believe it too. I highly doubt he wants to get absorbed in any of it. Adam on the other hand, i'd believe he'd be more apt to check out a fan opinion or two (not necessarily here) once in a great while.

Thanks for explaining, thanks to Bogs as well. That is an interesting thing. For example let's take Opeth. Many of you probably know them, while their first albums might get a tad bit cheesy at times, their recent work presents a really solid level of skill and artistry. However, they've kept a little forum running, where you could directly ask a few questions to Akerfeldt (the leader/vocalist), and in most cases when the topic had some sense Mikael would be into the conversation - that is, even though his guitarwork causes a jawdrop, even if he can growl like a beast and sing beautifully equally well - what really makes him a man worth following is how he can maintain being down-to-earth.
Maynard without the media wouldn't be half the man, I think. After some hard work he can do his fav job, there from the king's mountain view in Arizona. And fans, they're fun to play with, they will follow closely and grasp every word anyway :)
How about others - I'm curious. Mostly about Justin, he's not really into all this media stuff. Danny makes me crazy with his website - I love his playing, but all this magick stuff - I can't take seriously he takes it. Can a trick be so elaborate? I don't know.

Well he has, I believe, the largest collection of first edition Aleister Crowley books, so I think it's a pretty safe bet to say, he takes it.

Tool is a band that really needs to stay away from it's fans by and large. From what I've heard, Danny and Adam are pretty warm and receptive to passionate (sane) fans. But they still keep their distance and for good reason. The subject matter, while often misconstrued and/or overblown, just breeds lunatic followers. While it would be cool to strike up a conversation with any one of them, I'm sure it wouldn't take long, especially on the internet, for a conversation to skew away from the craft of music and art... to something less fruitful.

I had, like most people, listened to Tool in the Undertow days, but didn't really get heavy into them. I was one of those people that pretty much only knew Sober and song 69 (Disgustipated?). Years later, I'd heard Schism and liked it, but still wasn't really a fan.
I met a guy who was HUGE into Tool (a member here, but I don't know his username) and he tried to get me into them, but I was never all that interested. Last year, he wanted someone to go with him to their Dallas show and offered to buy my ticket if I would just go, so I went (can't beat that deal, huh?).
I had an absolute blast!
I claimed that even after the show, I wasn't any more of a Tool fan than I was before the show, but how could I explain all the Tool I was suddenly listening to?
Now this new summer tour popped up and my first reaction was, "YES, PLEASE!"
So this will only be my second show to attend, but I believe it's his seventh. Unless some strange force of nature somehow prevents it, I don't plan on missing a tour from this point forward.
I've opened the door and stepped inside....
WOW! I WISH I WAS IN YOUR SHOES GOING TO THE CONCERT! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TOOL AND I TAKE BACK WHAT I SAID ABOUT UNDERTOW. (WHEN I LISTENED TO IT THE FIRST TIME I ACTUALLY WASN'T REALLY LISTENING TO IT IN A VERY FOCUSED KIND OF WAY, IT WAS WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND HAVING A CONVERSATION WITH MY SON THE ENTIRE TIME. I'VE LISTENED TO IT AGAIN AND REALIZED MY THOUGHTS ABOUT IT BEFORE WERE TOTALLY PREMATURE BECAUSE I LIKE IT A LOT AND I'LL BET THE MORE I LISTEN TO IT, THE MORE I'LL LIKE IT, AS WITH 10000 DAYS AND LATERALUS THE MORE I LISTENED TO THE ENTIRE CD'S THE MORE AMAZED AND BLOWN AWAY I'VE BECOME WITH ALL OF THE SONGS. THEIR IS'NT ONE SINGLE SONG I DON'T LIKE!

Lateralus was their turning point *maturity as a band* in my opinion. Reflection being herd long before the release was the turning song to some *cuz wasn't it realsed in 2001?* all I thought was cool direction not many bands if any at the time did I hear that sound as new coming around the corner late '90s. Which then brings 10,000 days great album too. What I have liked their maturity as a whole, evolving....not many bands do.
My handle and Maynard's name in the same sentence, I'm going to faint. That I would even be mistaken for Maynard in anyway shape or form, I am truly honored, even though I'm a girl, cause Maynard is my favorite artist ever!

hey welcome aboard, you're in for a fantastic journey discovering all the occult and esoteric meanings contained within the artwork, songs, videos and tracklistings
don't forget to check out Puscifer
also lookup C.A.D, maynard's first band which featured Eddie Murphy on bass
Also also, welcome 3stars. Your enthusiasm is a wonderful thing. I hope you continue to dig and discover new wonders amongst Tool and company. Just don't let the weeds around here squash your experience. Navigating and dissecting Tool fans' opinions about anything (esp. tool) is practically a futile task. Just enjoy yourself some tasty tunes. :-P
