I know I'm in the minority, but I really find Aenima quite boring (even Pushit and Third Eye) compared to the likes of Vicarious, Jambi, 10,000 Days, The Pot and Right in Two. Theres just a better sense of melody and MJK is strong an clear. His voice seems kind of small on Aenima to me.

Anyone else think that 10,000 is much better than Aenima?

Even though they were 5 years apart, they truly peaked with ÆNIMA and Lateralus. These are both iconic, phenomenal albums that have yet to be eclipsed by many bands. 10,000 Days is better than neither. Tool really has nowhere to go now but down if this is their new vernacular.

listen to 10,000 days about 5-6 times
then go listen to aenima immediately afterwards
I think your memory of aenima just isnt fresh enough.
It will blow you away after lulling yourself to sleep with 10kdays.

It's too soon to say. We've been listening to Aenima for years. We've been listening to 10,000 Days for a few days (or a few weeks, if you're one of the fucking assholes who downloaded it).
I have more a personal connection with Aenima, because having listened to those songs over the years they remind me of things I've done, and that gives the songs additional meaning beyond just what the band is playing. 10,000 Days is new and exciting, yes, but I don't have the same kind of relationship with the album yet. Yet.

You will.
It's ridiculous that people are commenting like this on an album that has been out for only a short time. The music is complex. Sit back, relax and try to enjoy it. Everytime I listen to 10Kdays I notice something that I hadn't noticed before.
You'll build memories around this record, just like you did with Lateralus and Aenima.
Everyone, have a great weekend. =]

Undertow and Ænima will always be the ultimate Tool, in my mind. The records are fantastic and the live shows from '93-'97 were unreal. They've yet to top them, for me. I will say that I find 10,000 Days to be much more enjoyable than Lateralus, though.

I've never been able to pick a favortie album, and I always thought it weird that some on here could. Depends on my mood a lot, sometimes it's Aenima and sometimes it's Lateralus. Given that, my favorite song (most of the time) is on neither. Flood from Undertow...

Tool has not disappointed me yet. Although, Aenima is my favorite. That is really more to do with my life at the time and what was going on with me more than the actual album's quality.

Aenima is my favorite album of all time, from any artist. Every single full length song off of that album is a true timeless gem. I really like Lateralus too, but there are a few songs on it that I do not enjoy listening to (The Patient, Ticks and Leeches, Parabol). 10,000 days is too young. I doubt that it will ever appeal to me as much as Aenima, but I can't yet say whether or not it will eclipse Lateralus in my mind.

Aenema is and always will be my favorite Tool album. I love every song on it. Lateralus IMO is their most impressive piece of work even though im not very fond of ticks and schism. Right now Id probably rank 10,000 days 3rd behind Aenema and Lateralus, and just ahead of Undertow.

Couldnt agree more with the first sentence. Seriously, is Aenima not the greatest album ever by any band? Ive listened to that album probably 1,000 times and I still am not tired of it. Other classics that can even come remotely close to Aenima are the first Rage Against the Machine CD and Pearl Jam Ten

Not even close and 10,000 Days kicks major ASS. AEnema is the best album of all time by any band.
1) AEnema
2) Lateralus
3) Undertow
4) 10,000 Days
5) Opiate
6) Salival

AEnima is by far the best albem yet, however i cant decide which is better out of lateralus or 10,000 days. I have just listen to 10kdays again after a few days off and it seems to have gotten even better, but its such a different kind of albem to anything else. I find that 10kdays appeals to more ppl but with an exception of wings/10k the other albems just seem a lot um... more toolish i guess. But 10k is nice, especially jambi, its so wicked the intro.

I believe that Aenima is the greatest album of all time from any band, but that bears little on the greatness of each of Tools albums, including 10,000 days. My order is:
Aenima
Lateralus
10,000 Days
Undertow
Opiate
Salival
Just Up That Dirt Road: Tool Live! at the Acropolis
Mungey the Clown
Two Weiners For Daddy
Bethlehem Abortion Clinic
I Smell Urine

Re: Anyone else think that 10,000 is much better than Aenima?
I believe that Aenima is the greatest album of all time from any band, but that bears little on the greatness of each of Tools albums, including 10,000 days. My order is:
Aenima
Lateralus
10,000 Days
Undertow
Opiate
Salival
Just Up That Dirt Road: Tool Live! at the Acropolis
Mungey the Clown
Two Weiners For Daddy
Bethlehem Abortion Clinic
I Smell Urine

See , I was the opposite. I listened to ÆNIMA and Lateralus and was like, what a big fuckin improvement, although the Grudge and Schism are hard to to top. Really though, I'm not a big fan of older Tool. Pre-Lateralus Tool is a borefest to me.

I like 10,000 Days better than Aenima, but less than Lateralus. Can't explain why, but Aenima has never sat quite right with me. I actually prefer Undertow.

I can't say anything till I hear 10,000 Days. I do enjoy Aenima though.
