The show APC did here a few years back was pretty underwhelming. I'm excited for Puscifer later this month, and would probably go check out APC again if they ever toured here, but it doesn't hold much excitement for me. Release some good new music and I might change my mind.

"By and Down" certainly wasn't (isn't?) going to sell any tickets.

It would be a huge surprise for a Tool VIP package to be part of a festival date

They killed a lot of their fanbase's excitement after that snoozefest eMOTIVe tour. They need to put out another single but a good one this time.

Of course I like the first two albums way more, but I still did like emotive. So seeing a band I like playing songs I like was a good time.

What are you talking about?
What new music does APC have that can take up any meaningful chunk of a show? Have they even hinted at even one new WIP song?

Yes (though I'd say it's pretty unlikely we'd get more than one new song, if at all):
Quote:
Howerdel and Keenan announced the Hollywood Bowl show in November during a discussion as part of the singer's book tour behind his new memoir A Perfect Union of Contrary Things. In a 2013 Alternative Nation interview, the guitarist said he had "75 percent" of the band's next LP "ready to go." However, he noted that progress could shift once Keenan became involved in the process.
"All those things can change and get ripped up, or maybe stay the same," he said. "He might just sing over them the way they are, and then I’ll tighten them up from there. Time will tell, in the beginning of the band that’s the way it was. I had songs that were pretty well realized, and Maynard sang on them. Who knows, it could go back to that or we could find a different direction."

Yeah, after seeing the "whole albums" theater tour, the Emotive tour was a snoozefest and I agree 1000% about the 3 Libras remix.
What is it with these guys touring repeatedly without a new album? I'm lookin at you MJK.

Billy having material doesn't hold any weight that new APC music will ever materialize. Certainly not enough to expect that they have even one new song in a presentable state for this tour.
APC touring again only reads as Maynard's willingness to keep a pulse going with this project as a gesture to Billy. I'd be skeptical that the gesture extends far enough that he'd actually work on a new song considering the reception of By and Down.
Again ... how nrca makes the leap from reality to "Excited for new music. I'd imagine new stuff will take up a lot of the setlist", I don't know.

Cool, so album sometime in 2018 if we're lucky.
At this point my son, who was born right after 10,000 Days was released, will be old enough to bring with me when they tour for the new album.

Sorry to pick on you about this (you're a cool guy) but for fucks sake STOP BLAMING MJK FOR THE NEW ALBUM.
This applies to everyone.
How many countless times does Maynard have to repeatedly say, again and again, that he has NOTHING to do with the new album delay. There is no hidden secret to the fact they write music BEFORE maynard gets involved.
In the book tour, in response to this inevitable question about the album delay, Maynard said when asked about the delay "it should have been out years ago. why are you asking me? I write when they give me music to write to".
Puscifer, APC, Wine, Books...it's just giving him something to do in the meantime to stay creative and tour and keep busy. It is not effecting the tool album delay in any way.
If you want to bitch about the tool album delay, may I direct you towards a Mr. Adam Jones, who most likely deserves the bulk of the blame on this issue.

I'm not blaming MJK for not having a new albumat all. In fact I think he is over compensating and trying to send the message that it is NOT him at all.
But another APC tour, (no new album) and another Tool mini tour (no new album) and what do both of those bands have in common? Just sayin.
I fully put the blame at Adam's feet, but the other memebers can also start to force the issue a bit as well. .

I, for one, thank Mr. Jones for the delay. 10k days was a very mediocre album and that took 5 years. I'd hate for him to feel pressured or rushed at all. Take 10 years if that's what it takes write some quality songs. Until then, enjoy all the other great music out there and relax.

There's no "delay". If you ("you" figuratively, no you) stop looking at it this way, it becomes a lot less stressful and more clear. They just aren't working on an album. I'm sure they have a whole mess of material that they won't just cobble together for the sake of putting a record out. They probably just aren't working on it as hard as fan's would like to believe. These are (rich) men now in their 50's with young wives and babies. DC has a baby. Jones has another on the way. And they still get a million dollars to headline the nation's biggest and coolest festival 10 years removed from a record. There's no delay. They just aren't working on a record that hard. If they wanted to, I'm sure they could.

Got tix for Nashville. Had front row lower side but took too long entering my email and pw on my phone but still managed good lower seats. Would have went to St. Louis but I'll be on vacation that week. Nashville is a fun city anyways.

And further to that point, they don't HAVE to make a record either. They are a very strange case. No other band I can think of has this long and successful a career with so SMALL an actual catalogue of work. I'm sure they'd rather just not make a record than make a bad one.
And based off the little bits and pieces they've played so far, the shit ain't that exciting. A record cycle is a big, big deal that requires a tremendous amount of time and energy. They might just not have it. And thats ok.
I'll go see megaphone Jambi one more time.

Agree, my complaint is making it a game with cryptic tweets and subterfuge and all around shenanigans.
If you are out of riffs and creative drive that is totally understandable. Hell even Iommi ran dry at one point.

I get that, for sure, but it's not even the band doing that. All of their positions have been the same and consistent. Three dudes saying, "yes, we are working on a record" and one saying "I'm waiting for three guys to write a record" ..
All the bullshit and shenanigans comes from their friend who they hired to do that 16 years ago. It's all pretty consistent.
