Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)

So I checked the UNO schedule in New Orleans and it is open for the dates in between Dallas and Atlanta. They could also do the Cajun Dome in Lafayette..

Texas is getting enough dates let spread the love around.

Very thankful for the Fairfax date, only about a 3 hour drive. I really do appreciate living in the East and being close to a lot of popular touring spots.

What older stuff would you guys like to hear at these shows?

Personally, I would love to hear parabol/parabola again.

If you count Lateralus as old, I'd like to see The Grudge, D/R/T, and The Patient live..the Grudge most of all. I remember the reaction when Pushit was pulled out of a hat for the first time in San Diego 2 years ago. There was this wave of utter enthusiasm that you could see, hear, and feel; the band fed off of it and the performance was breaktaking. I bet if they busted out The Grudge, you'd see something similar.

I'd love to hear a track like H or Third Eye, but that may be too "cathartic". I'd honestly prefer a song from Undertow or Opiate ommitted in favor of a gem from Aenema or Lateralus.

Not getting my hopes up though. As long it isn't the 10,000 Days Tour version 2.0, we're good (setlist-wise that is).

As much as I love Schism and 46 and Two, time for them to take a backseat. Stinkfist can stay though :)

Ditto. The 2 I'm dieing to hear Disposition & Reflection.

I'm 99.99999% certain we won't get any new shit, but I was listening to some classic rock today and thinking of a cover I'd love to hear by Tool and In a Gadda Da Vidda came on, the 17 min version. Danny could kill that drum solo. It might be too simplistic / repetitive, but I'd love to see what they could do with that. What covers y'all think they could / might / would like they do this go around?

Yeah, after I posted that I though to myself that Lateralus, in comparison to the other albums, is not old at all. The Grudge is an awesome live song and I would love to hear it live again. I have my doubts about D/R/T being played, but I would love to be wrong on that one!

In the end, I am just happy to have another opportunity to see them, no matter what they play.

Ha! my Tool fan friends tell me I have a grudge against The Grudge because I had my fill of it on that tour (saw it 6 times.)

I'm great if they give 46 & 2 a break...as long as we get a gem or two I'm good.

BUT we shouldn't be talking set list until all of the dates are announced. Keep that horse in front of the cart.

As far as songs go I'd like to hear anything that I haven't witnessed them perform live but I'd mainly love to hear Eulogy, H, Jimmy, Hooker With A Penis, Undertow, Bottom, Intolerance, Prison Sex or 4 Degrees. I would be stoked for the rest of the year just from hearing one of those songs live.

Guys, do you know what is the best audio and visual video on the web from the 10,000 Days tour?

I really want to give some friends of mine that are first-timers a taste of what the sights and sounds of a good Tool show are like.

I agree. Fuck Texas. Cut Alaska in half, Texas becomes the third largest state. I'm sure TOOL is hot to play the Sully in Anchorage again. It's been almost 7 years. Spoil us please!

It looks like I'm going to hit Charlotte and Fairfax back to back. Fairfax tickets go on sale this weekend but where am I going to buy them?

The Charlotte show is listed on livenation's site along with Phoenix and San Antonio. Ticketmaster has SLC, Phoenix, and Dallas. AEG has two festivals and Dallas.

I would imagine that the Fairfax show will be listed on ticketmaster.com this week. Maybe tomorrow sometime since today is a holiday.

Good call man. I actually do agree. I don't want to take away from the magic, but how about for me? I'm a two show veteran. I really am curious what ended up being the best live capturing of Tool the last tour.

NQ would be phenomenal. Third eye would be too. I am really hoping this mini tour will be some special shit, just them having fun, playing around and just having fun. They really dont have any set in stone expectations to live up to as far as material goes, so im hoping they will play some older shit. I just really dont wana hear vicarious again, ever.

I don't have all of the DVD's, but Atlantic City and Hartford stood out as being good quality.

For audio only, San Francisco towards the end of the tour was the best as far as sound and performance, IMHO. That's a must have.

SF was my personal favorite and it was in the echo chamber known as Bill Graham Civic auditorium. Loud as shit, yet managed to be very clear in many different spots around the venue. Also worth noting it was the second to last show on the total tour and two very respectable Bay Area natives joined them on stage. Tim Alexander (Primus) sat in on a jam session on top of the epic Holiday in Cambodia w/ Jello (Dead Kennedys--if that wasn't obvious enough!). No distortion/overmoudulating you tend to get when cranking it wayyyy too much in that place. Selling out and having bodies to soak it up helps. After seeing 6 shows on the tour in different parts of the country, in and outdoors, this one was the fucking peak visually, performance from the band, set list, etc. Maynard genuinely seemed into it as well, talking quite a bit more than other shows (IF he even spoke, shit). May have had something to do w/ guests, perhaps SF makes him feel relatively normal, perhaps there was some relief knowing that endless tour was finally coming to an end soon...? I did feel like the whole band wanted to do Aenema as a bonus closer, but I remember feeling like Maynard kinda called it off. Adam looked very prepared to dive into it. Maybe I just really wanted it to keep going! I cannot complain at all. They gave us Flood for fuck's sake!! *****IF ANYONE HAS A FULL RECORDING OF THIS SHOW, PLEASE LET ME KNOW****

Paramount in Oakland was the biggest disappointment (I must add that no shows were anywhere near a disappointment overall, whatsoever. Always good to remind myself of the ridiculous standards I hold them to.) They were still in the midst of warming up, I went into this show thinking it was going to sound spectacular due to the theatre itself, but somehow managed to not sound the best where I sat. To be clear, it was simply not the pristine sound I expected going into it, still sounded great. Setlist/visuals still had a lot of growing to do.

San Diego Street Scene was pretty eh sound-wise, crowd-wise, band giving a fuckless-wise, etc. Some poor person was crushed to death due to an ill-conceived plan to have the crowd stand on a paved slope. We got Opiate cut out of the set. It was cool getting in for free, but I pretty much expected to get what I got out of it.

Marysville actually sounded great being outdoors. It was hot outside and I brought my little sister to show her what my lifelong obsession--I mean enjoyment--of this band was all about. Half time Opiate rocked I recall, but nothing too unique at this one aside from that, but they still gave us what we came for.

New York was weird. Last US tour date at that point, full moon. The vibe of the people was very different from all the CA shows I've been going to all my life. Aside from that, 10k/Wings felt epic as all hell. The MDMA may have helped :) . (No weed anywhere in that fucking arena! UNBELIEVABLE!!) Probably not the most sought after recording form the tour either.

Oakland at the arena was excellent as well. They really do get great sound out of arenas. I don't know if they just spend more time with sound design or they simply give a shit, but other bands sounding terrible in arenas are running out of excuses. After seeing TOOL sound great in these settings, it is clear that it is more than possible to pull off good sound. Again, having people come to your shows helps. I want to say we got the 2nd performance of Right In Two at this show as well as another treating of Wings/10k Days.

SF takes the cake! Come on back fellas!!!!!!!

So what would be your venue of choice here (within reason, I think we can count the Filmore out)

Should be getting tickets to the Fairfax, VA show(7/30/2009). Hopefully it WON'T be an inflated price that stubhub.com is currently showing ($148/per ticket).

Don't worry, they will not be that expensive. Ticketmaster.com has the price range at

US $59.00 - US $69.00

BTW, toolband has tickets for the Fairfax show going on sale on Saturday the 30th, but ticketmaster.com has them going on sale on Friday the 29th. Just something for you all to keep an eye on this week.

It depends on the venue. The rental prices of venues vary. Also, cheaper tickets are available at larger venues with more seats further away from the stage.

So, the rumor is... Jason Mraz is opening for Tool in Atlanta.

Who woulda thunk it?

What? That Jack Johnson sounding bullshit? This better not be true, or at least for the other dates whenever those are announced.

Sorry, but this tour has been half-ass since inception. I hope the performances don't turn out to be.

Well, at least most of the shady pre-release scalpers are listing the gig that way: do a quick Google search of - Jason Mraz Tool Atlanta 2009.

*Obviously, don't buy from online cheats and scalpers, especially since the gig as advertised is most likely full of shit (hopefully).

Though, it might make for an entertaining evening in some twisted way...

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)

I can't imagine that's gonna happen. Not only would it be unfair to make us listen to Mraz before the set, but tickets for that show are already available on ticketmaster so how could there be a June 6th on-sale date for the Atlanta show? That said w/ everything up in the air I was intrigued enough to see what tickets are available on ticketmaster and you could still get pit (in front of the seats...not lawn) if that was the best TOOL could figure out.

He's just kidding.

Tool will likely be playing Lakewood (hope not) or The Tabernacle (hope so).
