Q. For those in the know... About how long before the show does Ticketmaster typically release more tickets, assuming they still have some available?

Sorry Swimming, they aren't going to play Wings again either. Maynard has said he was retiring the song because it was just to emotionally taxing to sing. Was beautiful while it lasted, one of my wife's fav songs live.

But countdown to facemelting is one week away for SD!!!

Those days are over unless the venue changes the stage setup.

They have released them all to Stub Hub, et. al. already, those bastards. If you can hold out until the day before or day of show, Stub Hubs $$s may fall. Good Luck.

If you haven't signed up to setlist.fm, you should!! Its a great site that you can see all the shows and setlists youve seen. It also will show you all the songs youve seen and how many times you've seen them. Its a great database for all bands , let alone this little band that no one really cares about, TOOL. ;)

Damn. Understandable though. Saw it at my first show and I was completely mesmerized. That performance is probably the dragon I have been chasing every time they go on tour.

Do you remember where you read/heard this? I'm a reader and I'm surprised I missed it.

This is already happening to one of the SF shows... But if you're going to SF you should msg embryo 2 first.

Not sure of the exact source but it was in an interview post 10,000 days tour. It struck me at the time as a pretty strong statement about the song and its significance. And how it became too much to bear.

I think MJK specifically talked about no more Wings in an interview but I'd have to go look (need more coffee first). It is too bad. Adam said during VIP that he thought the descending arpeggio for Wings was his favorite riff he had written for the band.

Glad I got to see Wings/10,000 one of the handful of times it was played. Not my favorite song on disc but live was such a powerful performance. And yes, we can throw it in the "never get played again " bin along with the likes of Prison Sex, Jimmy...etc. I also remember MJK saying its too emotional. I can respect it.

I agree that Wings 1&2 will likely not be played again, but I would hesitate to say that there are many others off limits. It wasn't long ago that several on this site claimed we would never hear again HWAP, the grudge, ticks, parabola...which have all surfaced within the last few years....

Maybe they would play an instrumental version of 10k. MJK still does songs about his late mother with his other bands....

But anyway back to reality.

My setlist prediction:

The Grudge
Vicarious
46 and 2
Parabol/Parobola
Stinkfist
Sober
Opiate
Lateralus
Aenima

IDK why San Francisco show was introduced as "an evening with TOOL" because "an evening with***" usally means no opener, just 1 band. 3TEETH opens. The warm up tour in 2006 at all those tiny venues were "evening with" shows...at least it was at the Paramount in Oakland. Hey Junior. ..any insight on why Primus wont be joining us in San Francisco? Prior engagements?

Re: General Tool Discussion

IDK why San Francisco show was introduced as "an evening with TOOL" because "an evening with***" usally means no opener, just 1 band. 3TEETH opens. The warm up tour in 2006 at all those tiny venues were "evening with" shows...at least it was at the Paramount in Oakland. Hey Junior. ..any insight on why Primus wont be joining us in San Francisco? Prior engagements?

It was in Revolver Magazine's 'Tool edition' issue. The entire Magazine was just about Tool. Half it of was original articles, the second have was reprinted articles about Tool from the past (from Revolver plus other Mags). Think that it came out in 2008. Maybe 2009. Then they reissued it a year or two later.

Yeah, I remember Paramount 2006 show went from 7:50pm-9:30pm. Felt odd getting out so early, but made it in on time (remember cutting it close) so got to see whole show.

And I assume that no Primus with Tool in SF was by request of Primus's promoters because they just did their own bay area show on NYE that had been on sale since October. Tickets for Primus NYE were still available when Tool tickets went on sale. It wouldn't have affected Tool ticket sales, but most likely would have affected Primus ticket sales; some people would have though "i'll wait to see them in a week with Tool, thus lowering potential sale for Primus on NYE. Primus killed it on NYE btw. Pork Soda live was amazing! Especially 'Welcome To This World' and 'Nature Boy'.

So with it being Monday and our journey begins this Wednesday,...lets start discussing meetups! Im going with 46inme,..he is going to the venue early(2pm) since its GA so he can get in line and we can get decent seats. I get off work at 2pm and going home, grabbing a few things and then taking BART to SF and meet up with 46inMe. Im bringing a couple joints and a flask. So hit me up if you wanna burn one or have a drink :) My dream of taking Shrooms at a TOOL show has yet to happen. That would be amazing,...wish it woulda happened during Lateralus tours! Lateralus is by far my favorite album to put on headphones and zone out to! Pretty sure "the boys" made that album under the guidance of mind enhancing "tools" :) RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRReal fucking high on drugs!

Dude, how much did you lose your shit when they first played it in LA? After my brain processed the opening riffs and I figured out what they were playing, I started shaking with excitement. My other toolhead buddies were screaming YEAHHHHH and people around us were like, WTF, this is a slow song. HA! You could hear other people going nuts too. I did not get to sleep for hours that night. And that was after all the drugs wore off!

The best part was seeing it again the next night and really focusing on the music. Kind of like seeing Stars Wars a second time, the shock wore off and all the details emerged.

Also, one of my fav Junior light shows for a song.

The best part was seeing it again the next night and really focusing on the music. Kind of like seeing Stars Wars a second time, the shock wore off and all the details emerged.

Also, one of my fav Junior light shows for a song.

The Grudge
Vicarious
46 and 2
Parabol/Parobola
Stinkfist
Sober
Opiate
Lateralus
Aenima
I could see Rosetta making a comeback. It has been a while. Fills the 3rd Eye slot from the last few tours. I could also see Eulogy or H.... been a while for those. They have been bringing back something unexpected the last 9 years (Intolerance in 10, Flood in 07, Ticks in 12, HWAP in 12, Swamp Song in 07). Patient and Pot are always possible, but those are voice taxing. Unless Grudge is where it stops for bringing something back...Don't see 3rd Eye or HWAP or sadly Pushit coming back for a third tour of duty.

That is my assumption, as well. I don't know for sure, though.

I'm feeling like I should have gone to the Bay Area for NYE to see them. Sounds like a great time.
I'll likely get my fill of Primus in the coming weeks, though.

^Any hints you can give us Junior would be most appreciated. If you can hint towards a surprise or two without completely giving it away I'm sure that'll hold people off here for another 48 hours. Cheers

Me, too.
I always felt like that was the big moment in that show.
From the solitary laser beam expanding out, and the fog clouds running through the lasers , to the truss moves with the tight-beamed lights zeroing in on the band members, to the lightning video clips coordinated with the strobe lights. That one was fun to watch (and make) unfold even from our point of view.

I have a permanent memory that plays vividly when I put on headphones and soar through the clouds. Isn't that enough?

I really enjoy the more dramatic side of the lights i.e. that beam widening out slowly - the last 2 shows at the Pearl were amazing man, it was so small I could have touched the laser reflectors. I miss the glitter and the giant disco ball those were some of my personal favorites.

Yeah, the laser "wings" over the stage spreading out, too. Awesome.

But I've always had a technical question that I wanted to ask: Were the lasers coming up from the soundboard area tuned into any of the guitars on stage? It seemed like when certain groups of lasers were on, the beams would change from steady to vibrating with the corresponding guitar riffs. Kind of like looking at guitar strings getting strummed. Was that intentional? Or maybe I was just to damn high ;)

That was just Scott (our laser guy) doing what he does.
No triggers. Just human playback (much like the video and lights).
