Why not do something original? I cant stand people who put direct copies/almost-copies of band artwork, band logo's etc etc on as tattoos, tattoos are supposed to be personal things, not, look at me, im tool fan #2749570 who wanted a tattoo so i copied some tool artwork. Inspiration & Copying are two very different things. Nice looking tat, but common, surely uve got more imagination than that?

tattoos are whatever the fuck you like, and if you like someone else's art that much then get it tatted. its pretty fuckin conceited of you to appoint yourself the right and the authority to make up this persons reason for getting a tattoo
All of mine are Tool inspired, although I did try to keep away from something directly from an album or artwork of Alex Gray. The one on my back has a centerpiece of the face from the Parabola video, my favorite song :)
"They fought and they clawed like savages. At the end none had found what they were looking for; and they simply returned to nothing, like they were before."

I wish it was that easy, the only time I am girly is when pain is involved, it's ok though I'm taking my best mate with me, I'll punch her if it gets too much :)
If it's not that long of a sitting you will be fine, my advice to you is get through the first 10 minutes then your adrenaline will kick in and it wont feel bad at all. I find that after 2 hours it starts to hurt again, so if you don't go that long you should be okay...
my artist has movies and shit that we watch and we always talk about shit, makes time go by faster.
Mines only going to be small on my wrist, but im getting both wrists done one with the first letter of my sons name and the other with my tool tatt. I'll be fine, I'm tough.. :)
I don't have any problem using a band's artwork as inspiration for a tattoo. I was inspired by Maynard's back tat, so I have my spine tattooed too. But because I have scoliosis and my spine curves, I had the tattoo curve with my spine instead of straight up the middle. Also, because 13 is my lucky number, I had a total of 13 vertebrae done.
I will probably get more done to it as soon as I have the money and the guts to have my back worked on again. My spine tattoo hurt like hell, 100x worse than my other tats.

Re: Anyone with TOOL inspired tattoos?
Here's one of mine (right forearm). The color needs to be redone...by someone other than the guy who did it. It would've looked a lot better if he had tattooed it exactly as I had drawn the picture.
i can't understand why you would want a tat of a band anyway?
i mean, it's not that i will stop listening to Tool someday, but its just lame.
why do you have to show everyone that you are a fan?
its something personal; and showing a copy of an album art on your arm isnt really a creative thing to do is it?
to me, being a fan means that you are into the music, are inspired by it, create something positive with it, not to go and tell "hey look, i listen to music you have never ever heard of"
oh well, thats my opinion.
however, if you want a tat so badly, then have fun with it & let us see how creative you are by posting a picture.

Re: Anyone with TOOL inspired tattoos?
I think people should get whatever they want tattooed. It's their body and obviously they don't care what other people think. Well, some do probably. My other tattoos are all my own designs that hold a meaning for me or just because I liked it. I don't get any of mine to impress anyone. I love Tool and their music has helped and inspired me in a positive manner, that's my reason. Personally, I think what's lame is when people choose a picture from the wall or book of designs. I still don't judge them however.
yeh, thats as lame as you can get.
i agree with you though, when you say that everyone should choose whether they want a tattoo or not, its up to them.
i just mentioned my opinion =] hence "The Tool Page: Opinion"
i think if you get a tattoo of a band that you've loved for a long time and can't imagine not listening to, it's not so bad. i mean, if you got a tattoo of sugar ray in 1998 cause you liked the song "fly" and didn't realize they don't have any other good songs. (not that fly is a good song...) but a band that you know is brilliant (i.e. Tool) i don't think it's bad. especially if you're a musician/songwriter, it can be inspiring. just my humble opinion.

It is hard to really know what you will feel about any given subject at a later date though. It is kind of like getting a partner's name tattooed on you. You can't see how you would ever regret that.. until you do.

i'm probably going to get the flaming eye on my ankle (i know its nothing new/original) but i love alex grey's work. I also want a miniature on my arm of Grey's "oversoul".
