Just saw on Facebook, supposedly DC will be joining Primus one last time for New Years in Oakland.
They also mention DC indicated a new Opiate video. ..

I'd bet on Puscifer. I want to complete the triad, and I'm at the point where I could go on my own and don't have to drag my conservative Christian parents to a Puscifer concert...the awkwardness when Tool opened with HWAP with my Dad next to me was palpable.

I think APC are done and dusted. Puscifer is a easy one for Maynard to throw together, so is probably the most likely of the trio. That said, I don't think we'll see any tours of note until after Tool have recorded their album.

i dont mean to side track this thread away from tool or anything, but why do you think APC is done with? i was hoping for a new fourth album eventually. i didn't like eMOTIVe that much, a few songs here and there - 360 has all the good ones on it. i did like Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step quite a bit. would be cool to hear some new APC material or something.

It's based on a gut feel. The last tour was pretty uninspiring I thought, and my opinion is that the band didn't really seem into it by the end. By & Down was a pretty bland song as well, coupled with eMotive doesn't give me much hope for a a bright future with APC.

I think the release of the 360 set noted the final "signing off" of APC. Even with their most recent tour, there was only one new song released by the band, and I doubt they're looking to continue. What band releases a Best Of...album with only 3 records released, unless it is to say goodbye?

true, that makes sense. well, that's a little disappointing to me lol. i liked By & Down, but if they can't create anything better than emotive from now on, then maybe it's for the best.

I wouldn't call Puscifer "easy to throw together", unless you just mean "less hassle".
I think as much planning and work goes into putting Puscifer shows tohether as does with the other 2 bands, just on 3 different scales.
The big difference that could make it "easier" is that there is only 1 chief as opposed to 2 or 4.

From what I saw at the Greek Theater, APC is alive and well but maybe put on a shelf. I wouldn't be suprised to see Puscifer mini tours next year regardless of what Tool is doing.
That being said 2015 feels like the Year of Toolishness to me.

Really? I can tell you for a fact maynard explicitly said APC is done for. I'm on my phone but I recall seeing a relatively recent interview where he put any speculation about them getting together for new material in the future to rest. As soon as I get home and can link it I will.
They do say "never say never," but considering maynard himself said it's complete as a project, I would consider APC wrapped up.
I see the future as one more Tool album and Puscifer songs/mixes here and there.
Also, junior, i think it's fair to categorize puscifer as "easier." One of the reasons as you said is the 1 chief vs 2, but also MJK said the entire "V for Vagina," record was written and recorded on your busses, in home studios, off home labtops between shows. Tool could not do
That. For a project to be completed in that way it has to be considerably easier. Technically speaking, with some of the digital tracks, a lot more is at your fingertips, so music is more accessible to the writer. The fact puscifer is more indie and more "fun" and less "serious" also adds to the idea it's "easier."
I'm a fan of puscifer but I don't think it's fair to say its on the same level as tool with respect to the things I mentioned. It may mean as much to maynard, to participating artists, to fans, to music in general. But practically speaking, puscifer is in fact easier. That's just my opinion of course.

indeed, junior was referring specifically to the touring process. and he might be correct about that too.
puscifer has a decent component of "acting" that requires practice, rehearsals and chemistry between everyone on the stage. anyone who has been to a puscifer show will know what I am talking about. especially when you account for the silliness in between songs.
tool is a well oiled machine and the guys can go up there and just play for 2 hours. the lights/sound/tech guys are all regulars that have been doing it for years, and generally speaking with the same setlists and the exact same stage setup (with minor differences). whereas each puscifer tour is drastically different from the others. remember a few years ago when Puscifer did a "themed" tour where each night was either country or airplane based?
we're comparing apples and oranges here, but i definitely agree 100% with Junior that Puscifer (in a different way) requires just as much preparation and work as a tool tour does. it's also with less road crews/helpers because of a smaller budget (presumably).

Yeah, that easier is pretty much what I'm referring to. Logistically, I imagine Puscifer is not a real easy one to pull off, probably harder than APC.
I'd be all for APC doing more stuff, don't get me wrong there. Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step are both fantastic albums. Just on the last tour I wasn't "feeling" it, nor was I convinced the band were either.

If I had more disposable income I might pick one up, it'd be cool to have one framed next to a drumhead in the future or something.

Anyone know what the significance of number 93? I haven't really been paying attention lately, slow times on the Tool-front.

i have no clue... tool uses a lot of numerology in their music. they love to use a ton of 3's and prime numbers. 93 has both (3*31).

Wikipedia's take on 93 in Thelema, relating to your response.
This article also has some cool commentary on Thelema and imagery used in Tool's music and artwork. They also reference Jimmy Page, which is cool! I wonder if Jimmy and Danny would be good friends.
The bass drums on his bronze drum kit are 93 pounds each, which might also be an answer, though I imagine that was just a happy coincidence.

yeah, that makes way more sense to me.
i really wouldn't be that surprised if Jimmy Page and Danny were already friends. Jimmy is a huge Crowley fan. he even used to own the Boleskine House on Loch Ness.
i think the drum thing might be just happy coincidence, or partially at least. like maybe it was close, and he decided to skim material off till it was exact.

I agree. I think given Danny's interest in the Occult, and also his having played some pieces in the style of John Bonham, they could have crossed paths at times. I wonder if Jimmy has heard their cover of No Quarter, and what he thinks of it--personally, I actually enjoy it more than the original. I would love to hear Tool cover In The Light.
That's true. Reading up on those kits, it seems that he's got some very specific requirements for his drums kits. I don't know that he would've cut materials, but perhaps he wouldn't shy away from rounding up the numbers!

considering jimmy page sued the hell out of countless musicians for "replicating zeppelin riffs" he might be less inclined to want to meet the guys who were actually successful at taking a zeppelin song and making it better
