if TTD does sell a million, it'd be a great achievement, because tool have spent very little on advertising, apart from a few interviews in various mags

Anything is still possible at this point, but I think it's quite clear that 10,000 Days will come out in the #1 spot for its first week. The only threat to it during the second week is the new RHCP album.

These are the retailers. You can click on them to see if any of these are the ones that have reported.

http://hitsdailydouble.com/sales/sales_tt.cgi

Tool was the #1 Album at Tower Records.

Tool was the #1 Album at Hastings.

Tool was the #1 Album at Borders.

Mer De Noms debuet at #4 and has sold over 1 Million to date.

Thirteenth Step debuet at #2 and just passed the 1 Million to date.

Emotive debuet at #2 and has sold over 500,000 to date.

aMOTIOn debuet at #57 and is gold which i think is over 50,000 sold since it's a dvd.

As has been said Lateralus Debuet at #1 with over 555,000 sold first week and has sold 2,298,000 copies.

Just for your cocktail chats AEnema debuet at #2 and has sold over 3 Million to date.

Undertows highest position was #50 and that has sold over 2 million copies to date.

Opiate has sold over 1,000,000 copies to date but never cracked the top 200. Impressive.

Only 150,000 copies of salival were made and they were all sold. It debuet at #38.

The parabola and schism DVD are both gold. I think for DVDs to go gold it's 50,000 sold.

When i get back they will be final.

Billboard will finalize it tommorow. Remember hitsdailydouble is hardly off and when it is it is only by 1,000 or 2,000 copies.

Newbury Comics and Record and Tape Traders are both small chains, where's the Best Buy, the Circuit City, the Sam Goody, the FYE etc etc....

Or are these the only retailers they get a top 10 list from?

483,269 with 70.99% reporting.

483,269 is 70.99% of 680756.

Sooooo...using the horribly flawed method of extending these numbers....

We arrive at 680,756 first week. We'll see what happens with the remaining 29% of retail outlets that have not reported.

Or you can do like I did:
- Copy to CD-R for the truck
- Rip to iTunes for the iPod
- Place CD back into its case
- Throw case into the box in my closet w/ all my other CDs

Scratched disc? Re-burn it!

Agreed, I owe nothing to Tool. I just like their music. They owe me, really. It's our money that lets them get to the people they do.

It's a little give and take.

lmfao! That's easily the funniest thing I've read in these forums in a long time.

What I don't understand about this whole reporting aspect is that albums are still being sold after a company reports their sales... unless they all wait until the full week is done. Are these numbers updated a final time?

Anything is still possible at this point, but I think it's quite clear that 10,000 Days will come out in the #1 spot for its first week. The only threat to it during the second week is the new RHCP album.
yeah, good point. i didn't know it occassionally worked that way.

http://hitsdailydouble.com/sales/salescht.cgi

TOOL VOLCANO/ZOMBA 553,200 10,000 DAYS

PEARL JAM RCA/RMG 281,048 PEARL JAM

Actually according to this chart from when lateralus came out.

http://hitsdailydouble.com/sales/archcht.cgi?cht745

TOOL VOLCANO 577,841
LATERALUS

This means that retailers counted more copies sold then were scanned.

Billboards final was 555,000 for Lateralus. That was the furthest off hitsdailydouble has ever been.

So dont be thinking they are wrong this time because of that. They are usually really close.

There is a chance that it did more then 555,000 though. We will see for sure tommorow from billboard.

bump for somebody to edit the title.

Tool always projects higher then they sell because so many damn people buy it the day it comes out.

Tommorow Afternoon the official numbers from www.billboard.com will be posted.

10,000 Days should be platinum in a month.

This might be a little specific, but, can anyone work out how much money the record company makes off the sales, like tell me how much if you had an average price, they would have got off lateralus with over 2 million.
and how much they would get off this album in the first week.

I just want to work out how rich theys fellows really are ^^

I think they'll hit 1,000,000 U.S. sales by the end of the month. That's a lot of CD's for a band that is considered by many people to be "underground." I went to Hot Topic yesterday and they had a Tool display case in front of the store... with room to fit about 20 CD's on it, and shirts toward the bottom. There was not one CD left on the rack, and about half the shirts were gone.

I wonder how the international sales are going...

The same company that owns FYE bought what was left of the Sam Goody chain in March. (They filed bankruptcy earlier in the year.) Not sure if they report to the hits daily double website or not. I do know that 10k was the best selling album for the chain last week. Everyone seems to think that the RHCP will be the CD to beat this week, but in my store the big seller was the new Jagged Edge.

BTW, the second biggest seller in my store today was 10K. Even in its second week it still outsold Stadium Arcadium by a 4:1. I don't know if this will be indicative of sales everywhere or if my area is just inhabited by a bunch of RHCP haters!
