I work at Best Buy, and i can tell you first hand that it will arrive at most Best Buy stores the Wednesday before the release date. That is the media geo shuttle night when we receive all the new releases for the next week for prepping and pricing.

This is how it works. If I were to buy the album before the street date, it shows up on my employee record. There is no way around that. For violating a release date I will be fired on the spot. However, what I can do is (accidently) stock a couple copies on the shelves prior to the street date for a few lucky fans.

I agree and I disagree. Personally, I'm going to wait until the album comes out. However, if someone really wants the new album from my favorite band, I'm not going to say no. I'm gonna try to get it in their hands and wish them a mind opening experience. Not only that, but sometimes there are perks to getting one of the first copies. Sometimes promotional things come with it, but not usually. I've never even thought about this before, but were suppose to get a giant promotional 10,000 days poster to display in the store.

Yes sir. Not many people will have access to the album the week before release. That's great. I was able to score Lateralus early but only by a day. Similar technique at BB.

Yea. I said something a while back on the boards about having access to the album nearly a week early, and this guy who claimed he use to work at Best Buy accused me of lying. It was pretty funny. Honestly though, when you think about it, if a big name retailer is going to get in a new release, it is only appropriate to get it nearly a week early. First of all, the cd's need to be priced, prepped and planogrammed. This takes more than a couple of days. If we were to not get the shipment until a couple days before the release, we may have a problem. Aso, shipments are notorious for running late, so it's only suitable to get the shipment a ways ahead of time to ensure that we will have it out on the floor come release day. If anyone lives in Southern Cali, and would like a copy of 10,000 days early, PM me. I can't make any promises.

Yea. My tip to you,: become friends with a media merchant at your local Best Buy. And don't get me wrong, I'm waiting until the day it comes out to hear it, but I don't see anything wrong with letting a couple people in on the new album.

I'm not sure how that works at best buy, but couldn't you sell it to a non-member account (or like, pretend you're selling it to a cousin or friend)? Does Best Buy keep track of each person's purchases?

there are 10,000 days posters at the CD stores in NZ, they look fucking lame, so im not stealing any.

i can get a lot of albums early from my buddy who is a music reviewer for a newspaper, i am certain tool will not be sending advance copies of the new album out for reviewing though.

my flatmate works in a CD store though, so i guess we could all be listening to it a few days before, it comes out early here in NZ and AUs anyway.

Yea. that's what I was implying. I couldn't buy the album myself and send it to anyone, but I could put it out on the floor for a customer to buy, or just put the album in the customers hands for that matter. Since I don't work in media, they wouldn't be able to pin the premature sale on me. They do not track individual customers purchases when it comes to cd's.

If you could let someone else purchase it, how are you not able to yourself?

you should make sure one of your friends is this customer. make sure he buys two. and maybe if he's nice enough, he'll trade you 9.99 plus tax for his EXTRA copy, then you can go to a public pc, rip and leak it. :D
