Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
I remember Shihad once opened for Tool in Australia, back in the Ænima tour days...
As has been said before, the opening act will probably be some Aussie band that's also performing at the Big Day Out. It might be another band (non-Aussie) from the BDO lineup? January 24th is a pretty big night in Sydney for music as not only are Tool playing at the S.E.C. but Muse are at the Horden playing their second sydney side-show...
I don't really care who opens for Tool. Nicki Webster, Hoodoo Gurus, Leo Sayer, Stephanie McIntosh, John Farnham, Guy Sebastian... it doesn't matter :)
Actually, if any those listed opened for Tool they might get physically hurt by projectiles from the waiting crowd...

nice post.
I really cant see an aussie band opening for them. Last time it was the Melvins, and AFAIK they've brought other patton-related bands on tour with them. Isis appears to be a likely candidate, since they're supposed to be in the country around the same time.
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
I think the most likely Australian candidates are COG, The Butterfly Effect and Karnivool, although I don't think Karnivool are as well known. But it will probably be Isis or someone

BDO lineup will be announced soon, maybe next week? No one has been confirmed yet, but it's pretty obvious Muse an tool are booked (unless tool are playing an april fools on us in october.)

My cash is on The Butterfly Effect. The Barassi connection is there. Of course, funny story, I was talking to one of the guys from the band at their Canberra gig about working with Barassi and he said it wasn't the best experience... to put it lightly

There is also a large possibility of their label mates Peeping Tom doing BDO, so perhaps they'll do side-shows with Patton as well. I believe Meshuggah have been asked to do BDO, so perhaps we'll have two extraordinary supports for Tool, but Meshuggah will no doubt knock BDO back again.

oh good, so im not the only one who's noticed the total lack of avatars...
oh, and im still hearin strong rumours for the chillipeppers makeing up the tripple front with muse and tool, despite it being out of the time they are touring here... heh, not that im really that interested in whether they show or not, i wanna know who of the 'smaller' bands will be playin...
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
the j's anounced the BDO line up this morning, very disapointing, IMO
