Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
What fun and games that was this morning. Stressful stuff indeed.
I'd say that letter is right on the money, but at the end of the day I can't complain as we were lucky enough to get tickets. Nor could I be assed writing a letter. If I'd missed out though, that could have been another story.
Oh, and a big 'up yours' to those two chicks who came in real late, TV swapped and got Gold tickets. Bad karma.
And as for all this talk about the venue, it would suck if they did put out plastic chairs. I'm not sure they will, but either way I think teh venue will kick ass. Rain hail or shine.
We're going to Bonnie Tool. We're going to Bonnie Tool..

Nice letter, but I'm sure they will file it straight in the bin. Seriously, they don't give a shit, they sold all the tickets that's the one and only thing they care about.
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
What do you people expect ticketmaster to do? They had probably 30,000 people who wanted to get gold seats of which there was maybe 1,000. Once they are gone the remaining 29,000 want to get their hands on the other 11 or 12 thousand. All these tickets were sold in about 35 minutes.
Ticketmaster gives you three options, phone, internet and in person. You are a moron if you think that you won't run into some trouble trusting the internet or the phone alone. They are not bloody Nasa, they are not going to have the kind of technology that some of you expect. Even if they did everyone would have got on at once and the tickets would have sold out in a minute.
In the end the result would be the same, except the people who stayed out all night may not have got as good a tickets as they did. Ticketmaster did their job, that was to sell 13,000 tickets to a Tool concert. Unfortunately 30,000 doesn't go into 13,000 so people are going to miss out. There is not much you can do but get over it.
By the way I lined up at 8am at Windy Hill and got GA tickets. I'm just happy to have just got tickets.
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
So all silver is standing at the back?'
I was confused by the 'seat' number on the ticket.

Bullocks.
They should only allow 4 tickets per person so true fans get to go to the gig not sculpers that have connection at Ticketmaster being able to buy out the joint.

ROW I gold tickets 8 in a row!!.. we were second in line at like midnight at box hill and drank away till morn.. btw thank you so much to the asian dude at that newsagency.. fastest typer this side of the blue moon! LEGEND!!!
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
I was a bit pissed off, I lined up at twenty past six and the next people didn't arrive 'til seven. I could have stayed in bed for another half an hour. What did surprise me was the number of people who turned up right on nine o'clock. I reckon the number of people where I was doubled in the five minutes before nine.
I got tickets (GA) and I'm just happy about that. Now I'm just gonna look forward to great weather and a top sunset on the 31st.

I gathered they were just a way of keeping track of numbers. ??
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
i got gold, row i middle, i emaild ticketmaster to see way was quciker, either interent or showing up at an outlet, she replied saying internet is quicker, (clearly is not).
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
Was soooooooooooooooo close to getting Gold tickets, but the person ahead of the queue had credit card problems, so we ended up with Silver. Still, I'm going to see Tool!
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
Did anyone else line up at the arts centre? I was the crazy chick at the front of the line.
I *think* our system worked--the queue was faster, and nearly everyone managed seats, didn't they??
EDIT: after all the bullshit this tour, next time I'm buying as many tix as I can get to put 'em on the ticket hook up at face value. We mighn't be able to totally ditch the Scalping arseholes, but by fuck I'll try. :)

I can see the cost of tickets inhibiting a lot of people buying a heap of tickets to stop scalpers. Y'know what I mean? At one hundred bucks each it's not like you can really stock up unless you've got $1k+.
It is a good idea though, anything that will allow more people to enjoy the concerts without paying an arm and a leg is a good idea.

Actually if people just even buy 1-2 extra tickets, then collectively it can make an impact. I was going to buy 5 tickets, 4 for me and my friends, and an extra in case someone missed out or whatever and really wanted to go, etc.
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
Hey Aussies,
I had the DISTINCT pleasure of seeing Tool last night (in Calgary, AB). Amazing show, no one who got tickets could possibly be dissapointed :)
As it happens, I'll be near Melbourne when Tool plays the 31'st, but apparently when tickets go on sale Aug 25, 9am EST: they actually mean the 25th in Australia, so the 24th here. That's confusing shit. Needless to say I hope they announce more dates in Oz.
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
is it that much to ask that they put the sydney and melbourne shows on sale on different days?
i managed to get four tickets in row N online, which should be awesome.
last time i had to get tool tickets, i was 15 minutes late for a year 12 english sac (due to 'car trouble'), and had to sit in the nosebleeds of rod laver. this year i was arriving half an hour late to work due to a 'doctors appointment'. lucky my manager is a tool fan. heheh.... tool is the only band we'd go to such lengths to see.
i don't see the additional shows being much more than big day out shows, and if they are announced, the smart business person would undoubtably save these announcements until after the big day out has sold out. otherwise, many wouldn't bother with big day out, much like stooges fans last year.
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
To those talking about buying extra tickets to give out to other Tool fans at their discretion next time - I have thought about that and it doesn't really work. Its likely that the scalpers will still get their tickets, and the extra tickets you buy for TDN'ers will not go to someone else who loves Tool but doesnt visit this site, or doesn't use the internet.
"However be alert not alarmed, we’re expecting to announce more shows in Sydney and Melbourne shortly – stay tuned for details." Looking good. Hope TicketMaster doesn't completely fuck it up again.

Actually, I'm a her. :) And I still think it's a least worth a try- even if 10 actual fans got tickets, it's better than paying triple face value from some sleaze.

Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
tip for getting tickets...fly out to the most remote ticketmaster outlet you can find. I only arrived 10 minutes early and I was first in line, and there were only 2 other people.
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
YOu know, i bet its the promoters who have all the tickets on ebay. maybe this initial concert was a [ahem] 'decoy' to distract the arsehole scalpers. Think about it: if more shows go on sale - where does that leave the scalpers? -> Fucked.

I think you are missing my point - those 10 tickets won't be taken away from the scalpers, they will be taken away from 10 other fans. The scalpers will probably get them anyway, so in a sense you will be playing god by saying "we got extra tickets here, and these fans can have them and not these ones".
Of course I don't know this for sure, but it seems to me that the scalpers will know the ins-and-outs of getting tickets for big events better than anyone, so its unlikely they are the ones that will lose out.

I wouldn't rule that out entirely. There was this big thing with Ticketmaster in the US and shit where some agents were like basically passing on tickets to scalpers and third party sites and making a killing on the side...and this somehow led to this notion of the artists wanting to get in on the deal...so in a couple of years time, ticketmaster will be LEGALLY holding auctions for concert tickets. HOW FUCKED IS THAT. (It was in a recent issue of Rolling Stone USA)

I have also read about this. It's positively horrid. It basically rules out the "normal" man from seeing a gig - and then it's open slather for those that have nothing but money to burn :(. The little man is screwed, yet again.
Hey, I'm still reeling here, and it's last friday all the sh%t went down. I don't think my lack of tickets and the effect it's having on me will wear off anytime soon....
Re: 2007/01/31 - Melbourne, AUS - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
I was lucky/fortunate to get tickets to both Melbourne and Sydney (1st in line, got there the night before etc.) but I must say I am very disappointed that there wasn't a ticket limit in place.
I've mentioned this elsewhere but let me explain once more:
I bought 5 Sydney tickets and 3 Melbourne tickets. I live in Sydney and am going with my girlfriend and 3 mates who are massive Tool fans (2 are yet to see them live - should be a good experience for them!) and in Melbourne I will be sitting with 2 other friends. But that's it.
There should have been the usual 8 ticket limit for each gig. I have no problem with people buying tickets for mates (like what I did) but when you're first in line at Ticketmaster like I was and the 2 people next to you are buying 13 and 15 Sydney Gold GA tickets you can't help but feel skeptical. Sure, they might have legitimately all for friends etc. but if you're buying for friends surely no-one would have a problem with 8 tickets for each show maximum. If more than 8 people wanted to go etc. then just get 2 or more people to line up. Simple.
Hopefully Tool will add some more dates, both BDO and individual shows, so as to please fans - yes, there will be many who will buy more tickets to more shows (I'd go to another show for sure!) but hopefully those who missed out would have another opportunity...
Also, good to read in the Live section review of the August 27th show at The Gorge in Washington state that the sound guy said that Tool had done The Grudge and Wings/10,000 Days in sound-check.
This looks good for Australia...
