I'm 99% sure we have seen all the dates for this tour.
The lighting and video systems are being trucked directly from Chicago back to LA where they will sit until the Pomona show.
Could you let the guys in the band know that if any of them want to crash at my place before the Pomona show they can. The show's only like a 10 minute from my place.

Plus we could stay up late the night before playing Chutes and Ladders or Simpsons Halloween Monopoly if they wanted. That or play with Lego's.

Agreed but I have come to that conclusion only recently. I was lucky enough to see them cover Demon Cleaner and I am a pretty big Kyuss fan but hadn't picked up Sky Valley yet.

as I noted back on the orig thread (page 47,000 I believe) I'm pulling for Revolve...

Dude, I thought FOR SURE I had made a wrong turn.....although it is one of the smaller venues of the tour, I went to the box office and they were really cool (gave me an original hand bill!) she said they would be selling 6500 tickets but it's not sold out. :(

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

yeah now that I think about it, I think i'll check out what the setlists are before I see them. Did the same last tour, and the second concert I went to was the first one they played Flood. So I knew right off that was special to that concert. If I didnt know the previous setlists I woulda figured they had played that one all along.

But just think of it this way, If you don't look at any of the setlists, every song would be special! You can always go back and look at the other setlists after your show. Its gonna a massive test of will power, but I'm going in unknowing to the Dallas show.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Still haven't made up my mind about checking the setlists prior. Two schools of thought.

But I do have to say I suddenly stood up and did a gigue around the house tonight! Grabbed the wife and kissed her (and thanked her for not having a problem with me splitting town for a concert). Then I went and pumped some Opiate and Lateralus and embibed in a gin and tonic or two.

TOOL NEXT WEEK BITCHES!

I think it will be mutating the entire time. It always has on previous tours, so I don't think that will change just because it's short. If anything, I expect it to evolve more this time since we didn't have much pre-production time. The 'seat of the pants' aspect might make it even more exciting, in particular on the songs that weren't played in 2006-2007, if they make the cut.

I like seeing the setlists ahead of time though. Just builds excitement for me as I'm waiting for them to get to my show.

Last time I saw them was the first time I read the setlist before hand. I think it helped make it more enjoyable for me. Not wondering what was next and just enjoying what was being played at that time. I will be looking before I go.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

I'm torn about looking at the set lists. I don't believe I could wait from July 18 to August 5 without looking even if I wanted to. No self control.

I did like going to Grateful Dead shows not knowing what they would play each night. Last tour I looked and probably will this one as well.

I'm going to the last show in Pomona. I know myself and that curiosity will get the better of me, so I'm not even holding out hope that I can refrain from peeping the list.

I'm glad there are 13 shows for MJK to rehearse and for the show to evolve before my show in Cincy!

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

well just for the hell of it, and b/c i am real slow at work, to speculate on the "old" songs that may or not make the cut as junior has been speaking of (not played in 2006 or 2007).....

album song last played odds?

opiate sweat 1998 low
opiate hush 1998 low
opiate part of me 1998 maybe
opiate cold & ugly 2002 low/maybe
opiate jerk off 1999 low
opiate opiate 2006/2007
undertow bottom 1995 real low
undertow crawl 1998 low
undertow disg 1994 real low
undertow flood 2006/2007
undertow intol 1999 low
undertow prison 2001 low
undertow sober 2006/2007
undertow swamp 2006/2007
undertow undertow 2001 maybe
undertow 4 deg 2002 maybe
aenema stink 2006/2007
aenema eulogy 2001 possible
aenema h 2002 possible
aenema 46+2 2006/2007
aenema hooker 1999 low
aenema jimmy 2002 low
aenema pushit 2006/2007
aenema aenema 2006/2007
aenema 3rd eye 2002 possible
lateralus grudge 2002 possible
lateralus patient 2006 low
lateralus schism 2006/2007
lateralus parobol 2002 low
lateralus ticks 2002 low
lateralus later 2006/2007
lateralus d/r/t 2002 maybe

scale of real low, low, maybe to possible

I'd say they need a long song to fill wings, which either the grudge, 3rd eye or DRT fills. I don't expect DRT again though... other than that, some older ones that could resurface : cold & ugly, part of me, eulogy, H, undertow or 4 degrees. the rest pretty much seem to be retired, but i could very well be wrong (and in some cases, would like to be wrong).

thoughts? 72 hours until we find out (maybe, they might save a few for later in the tour, but it is only 13 dates)

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

I guess we'll find out soon enough, but do they typically play a lot longer set in a stand-alone setting compared to a festival , only a little, or the same? I guess it depends on the slot given, but just wondering in general, thanks.

i would agree with jimmy real low, they hardly have ever played it, same with ticks. prison also, but they did play it ALOT in 2002, which surprised me. d/r/t i only thought *maaaybe* due to its length (wings replacement), but im not holding my breath.

As luck would have it, yes. 'Iron Man 2' was done with them slightly early, so one of our trucks swung by Van Nuys on the way out of town to pick them up from the manufacturer.

album song last played odds?

opiate sweat 1998 low
opiate hush 1998 low
opiate part of me 1998 maybe
opiate cold & ugly 2002 low/maybe
opiate jerk off 1999 low
opiate opiate 2006/2007
undertow bottom 1995 real low
undertow crawl 1998 low
undertow disg 1994 real low
undertow flood 2006/2007
undertow intol 1999 low
undertow prison 2001 low
undertow sober 2006/2007
undertow swamp 2006/2007
undertow undertow 2001 maybe
undertow 4 deg 2002 maybe
aenema stink 2006/2007
aenema eulogy 2001 possible
aenema h 2002 possible
aenema 46+2 2006/2007
aenema hooker 1999 low
aenema jimmy 2002 low
aenema pushit 2006/2007
aenema aenema 2006/2007
aenema 3rd eye 2002 possible
lateralus grudge 2002 possible
lateralus patient 2006 low
lateralus schism 2006/2007
lateralus parobol 2002 low
lateralus ticks 2002 low
lateralus later 2006/2007
lateralus d/r/t 2002 maybe

scale of real low, low, maybe to possible

I'd say they need a long song to fill wings, which either the grudge, 3rd eye or DRT fills. I don't expect DRT again though... other than that, some older ones that could resurface : cold & ugly, part of me, eulogy, H, undertow or 4 degrees. the rest pretty much seem to be retired, but i could very well be wrong (and in some cases, would like to be wrong).

thoughts? 72 hours until we find out (maybe, they might save a few for later in the tour, but it is only 13 dates)

My Set List Prediction:

Vicarious

Stinkfist

46 & 2

Schism

Sober

Jambi

Revolve - Melvins cover

Prison Sex

Rosetta Stoned

Opiate

Aenema

Lateralus

I think I would pay extra if they would please NOT play Schism this tour. Love the band, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that tune. But enuff already. Also, you gotta think they'll do Right In Two- at least I hope they do!

One of my favourite Melvins songs, but I think the closest you'll ever see to Tool covering it is the times Adam has/will sit in with the Melvins.

Agreed about "Schism". Should swap that out with "Parabol/a". Hell, it would take about the same time since they always do that extended intro to "Schism" so time shouldn't be an issue.

that extended part in Schism is amazing. wish the production version had it but i guess that makes it special to live concerts. i agree id rather not hear schism though but if they do it better be extended.

aghhhhh Im already fucking pumped just to see the setlist and read reviews on their first concert sunday. I decided its better to know the previous setlists going into a concert.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

interesting discussion here. that was a nice read. Does anyone know when the concert reviews thread will be unlocked? I would think they would have it on a timer to unlock the day of the show. *shrugs* with technology now im sure there will be a lot of people ready to put down their experiences.

I think only marcus knows the answer to that but on the last tour they usually opened it right around the time that the show started. In fact, soonyboy, that reminds me of the Pearl shows in April of 2007 when you gave us play by plays of those shows as they happened in real time. Good stuff. Ah the memories.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

I'm sure they will have it opened a day before, or the day of. There's not much to worry about in that regard.
