All right, so I'm an idiot. I'll admit that.
But, in my defense, apparently Staind released an album called 'The Singles: 1996-2006' which has a live acoustic cover of Sober on it, AND Comfortably Numb. Point being, why the fuck did TOOL and Pink Floyd agree to let these douche bags put their songs on a Staind official release?
And, yes, I did mistake Aaron Lewis for Maynard. But the <cough> reception was bad <cough> this morning. Windows were rolled down. I was <cough> a bit hungover <cough>.
I know Aaron Lewis has talked about his emulation of Maynard before, and hey, can't fault him for lookin' up to the man! I do see a lot of similarities in word pronunciation, but he's a bit bassier than Maynard. The cover is half a step or full step down IIRC, and he's maxing out on the chorus "yelling."
yeah, jr youve given us more information in one post than blair has in the past 3 years... its 5 days until the tour starts and he still hasnt mentioned anything about tweak bird....

Tis true - Junior if you or any of the crew find yourselvs bored while in ABQ drop me a note, I'll be there all week "working" there are some cool things to see and do in the area, you just have to look for them.
That arena is way way, way out in the middle of nowhere, even by New Mexico standards.
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."

"Blair posted a Toolarmy Exclusive today where he talks about visiting Tool while they rehearse in LA this week. A short but interesting article, where Blair mentions he didn’t hear the new cover he expects to be played (he didn’t mention what it might be). He also mentions that there was a bit of new material played, however he doesn’t expect any of this will be played at the shows.
Anyone want to have a guess at what the cover may be? A Michael Jackson song perhaps?"

Probably "Cuntry Boner".

damn its gonna be hard to not come on here after the first concert is played and see what the playlist/reviews look like. I wont see them till the 27th. I highly doubt it will ruin or make the experience any less if I know what they are gonna play though. Last tour I did this.

It won't ruin it, but it certainly doesn't make it any better. I never looked at any Tool forums or websites in 2001/2002 and I never knew the set list. In 2006/2007 I checked out this forum often and I knew pretty much what the set was going to look like. It is MUCH more enjoyable, in my opinion, to not know what songs are going to be played in what order.

Agreed. One of my favorite memories from any concert is when the 10K Days tour premiere of 'Flood' was in Greenville, SC. I had been checking out the setlists so that was a huge shock. My buddy and I went nuts as the rest of our slightly less tool-crazy fans laughed at us. It was awesome.
I'm gonna try to come as close to recreating that as possible by avoiding all TOOL sites starting later this week. Guessing which cover Blair could be talking about may force my vacation to come a couple days early though, hah. I may even have to avoid all music sites in case it's something newsworthy.
I hope they bring back Aenema as the closer. I mean it seems ridiculous for them not to play it, especially at the Denver show, since Tool fans and people who attend Mile High Music Fest are 2 very different kind of people. But then again since when has Tool cared about who they please.
I think they're gonna switch it up for this tour though. Cuz if they don't it's just gonna be recycled live material from the 10k days tour. They really should do something totally different, like Third Eye. Oh how grand that would be.

Seriously. Sagebrush and coyotes. One two lane road in. It'll suck worse than going to the Journal Pavillion.

It's a bit obscure (at least to me, it is), and I still don't know if it has made the cut. I hope to know soon since tomorrow is our last full programming day on the soundstage before it all gets loaded in to the trucks bound for Denver.
kinda delayed reaction on my part...but tool and opeth would have been absolutely astonishing. still relishing in the thought. blackwater park=AMAZING.

I'm throwing in for Lateralus as the best closer and betting for this tour they close every show with it. Spiral Out!
P.S. No response from Junior on the additional shows question. Hmmm...
I would have to agree. Lateralus should end every show and I can't see them writing another song that would ever change my mind on that. Ænema is a great song to end the first set with, but it always leaves me wanting more, while lateralus feels like the show has reached its end.

Also agree. As much as I'd love to see them close with Opiate, just like old times, it isn't happening anymore. With that being said, Lateralus is the way to go, in my opinion.
closings from the 90's, when they rolled all 3 together seemlessly.
Opiate>Flood did come to mind, but I think that could work just as well in the middle of the set. Lateralus just 'feels right' to end a show with. Maybe it's all the Lateralus shows I saw and the feeling that it just seemed right to end with it. IDK.

I don't mind. I'm sure the rest of our Front of House staff (Nobby, Erik, Scott and Breck) would appreciate a hello, too.
i still laugh at nobby telling me "damn man, youre everywhere" at bonaroo. it was prbably the 8th time i had seen him that tour everywhere from vegas to atlanta. does it piss yall off that i always ask for the setlist? i have a pretty awesome collection now, and i would hate to quit getting them. i especially liked the fake songs from the last tour. should i not ask anymore?

Ditto for Lateralus. Amazing song.
As far as Junior, cut him some slack. As he mentioned, he was working a 12 hr day yesterday, and another today, he can take a day off from looking here. Plus, while I'd like to hear a new answer myself, he's answered that exact question a hundred times already.

I think you misunderstood me, my friend. I wasn't upset that Junior didn't answer my question, just curious if he intentionally avoided the question because he knew something he wasn't allowed to share. I appreciate everything he has done on here in terms of giving us a little peek behind the scenes and even playing some guessing games with us related to inside info.
Peace.

Didn't mean to comeback so harsh. I see what you're saying, I just don't think he was avoiding, just busy.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I prefer to know the setlists they are playing before going to the show. They still rotate a little bit, so you don't always know exactly what they are going to do.
I was at Radio City in 2003 when they busted out Commando, and couldn't fully enjoy it because I didn't know what the hell it was until after the fact.

Sorry, I lost that one in the hurricane of stuff gong on this past week.
I've seen no indication that the dates between Lollapalooza and Pomona will get filled with anything.
I'm 99% sure we have seen all the dates for this tour.
The lighting and video systems are being trucked directly from Chicago back to LA where they will sit until the Pomona show.
I'm not exactly surprised, but I don't know what else I can say about that.
Lighting and video is progressing at this very moment. The production loaded-in to a soundstage on Friday. The rest of the lighting crew spent Saturday getting the bugs out while I was still out with Duran Duran doing the final show of their tour at the Orange County Fair (and fielding questions about the Tool touring rig via phone and email). The video department has been working since Friday, as well. I got to the soundstage around noon on Sunday and left around 9pm. For me, today was mostly about getting my bearings with the system, re-familiarizing myself with buttons and faders I last touched over a year and a half ago, and then patching in the new elements. We are planning to work on the show Monday and Tuesday 10am-10pm, and Wednesday from 10am-2pm, at which point it all has to get shoved into the trucks bound for Denver. Over the next few days we should be able to alter what we already had to make it a bit fresher, and hopefully be adding some new songs and maybe even resurrect 1 or 2 from earlier in the tour. It's all going to depend on what kind of news we get from the band rehearsal, which is taking place across town at another soundstage. Our stage manager (Eric) has been our conduit, braving the LA traffic as he drives back and forth between the 2 regions of town bringing us news like some sort of mythical horseman.
Right now, my understanding is that we will use our entire production in Denver, as we are loading-in the night before the show. For the APW festival we are taking in the major elements of the show, and utilizing the festival production for the rest. Lollapalooza is still being worked out. I don't know the full details of that one, but it should be decided this week, and will probably be similar to how we do APW. The Pomona festival (whatever that one is called) will be our full production, too.
All I know for now. Big day tomorrow, I reckon. I'm hopeful it will be productive.
Thanks for the thorough response!
Sorry, I should have clarified... I meant to ask if the lighting/video will progress substantially DURING this tour (due to limited rehearsing beforehand), my mistake. I know full well that there will be several new things to look forward to in comparison to 2007, no doubt about that. You have never let us down before!

As far as cover songs go, I agree. I don't want to know the tool songs being played and in about what order, but if there is a cover song being played, I would like to know it before the show.
I'll send ya a PM in 2 weeks or so and you could let me know what cover, if any, that they are playing. Sound good?
