have you ever noticet the little diffrences between this and the aenima version other than being slower and a couple of verses repeated. like how instead of "what are you but my reflection" and "what is THIS but my reflection" and some things are dropped out... so, yeah this is obvious but which version do you like the most, and why??
I talked with my girlfriend about this the other day actually, she likes the Ænima version because it's like screaming the frustrations out, and I like the Salival version because of the "see you on the other side" type, I guess that's how each of us deal with our problems, at least internally...

As much as I love the Salival version, I have to go with Ænima. The original version is a little more to the point; I have no problem with a 14-minute Tool song, but the extended version of "Pushit" just doesn't need to be as long as it is. Also, the album version is a little more musically interesting in the beginning. I like how they slowly build on the one theme on the extended, but it can be redundant. The album version is tighter and stays fresher throughout.
Both versions are high on my list of Tool favorites, though.

The beginning of the AEnema version has a nice into with the guitar, but i'd have to say that I like the Salival version better. It is more emotional hearing maynard sing it live and the "see you on the other side" part realy starts the song off with a good feeling.
So Justin plays the bass on this track on both albums, and obviously wrote the bass line for the Salival version. But did he write the bass line for the Aenema version? I think I read somewhere that it was the other guy, but im not sure. Anyone know?
I'm obviously the minority, but the Pushit version is the much stronger and superior version.
I just don't feel the calmer beginning meshes well with the song - I don't think the lyrics go with the music very well in the beginning, and I just love the intensity and the emotion (in the first 3-4 minutes) in the Aenima version compared to that of the Salival version.
That said, the ending is fucking sweet either way you look at it.
i remember in 97 when i first heard the salival version of pushit live...i was blown the fuck away...that being said i can appreciate both versions, hearing new innovations of a song live though is fucking orgasmic

i thouroughly enjoy aenima's pushit, but when this one came out they took it to quite the emotional level. aenima has the most solid playing, but salival speaks to you. its a tough call

i can't belive you got the hear that shit live originally...so jealous. the salival version's been one of my favorite tool songs for a long time. people seem to be evenly split about the two intros but the slow/calmer one sounds amazing to me. plus, the danny's tabla teacher is featured on the recording right? forget his name though...

Yes, Danny's tabla teacher is featured on the Salival version. His name is Aloke Dutta.

This song is the best mind fuck you could ever have......I would give anything to hear it done live........
haha the best mind Fuck...nicely said =Aenema > Salival
Another thing about the two verisons is this. One of my fav. parts in Aenima which is "Keep my feet flat on the ground" is not in the Salival verison. Can anyone tell me why?
It is sorta funny how tool spent days in the studio laying down tracks just right, mixing, mastering, editing..... and the preferred version is a straight through recording. We definitely need more official live stuff!

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing recently. Despite what everyone says, Tool seems to sound best LIVE (though I personally prefer certain tracks unchanged from the album version).
I've rarely heard complaints regarding live Tool (other than obvious bitching about setlists, etc.); otherwise, people don't tend to say that they were displeased with a live performance.
I think Tool has said it themselves in several interviews and articles (though it may not be true): they consider themselves to shine as a live band and they state that working in the studio is the most boring aspect of being musicians.

I dunno man, the Salival version wins it hands down for me. Either way it's a great song, but it was like it was born again with the new version. The little differences can speak volumes, at least to me. Listen to Maynard: "Close your eyes, and we'll meet you on the other side". It's fun there.
You know what Salival has that Aenema doesn't? Spark. What do I mean by "spark?" Aenema is an album. A masterpiece.
But Salival is something more. It's more than a masterpiece. Maynard shows his true colors in the album. And I say that because in Aenema, everything was done in Studio. Mistakes can be fixed. Everything is well...robotic (and I say that about all bands studiowise). In Salival, it really shows that Tool is an awesome live band. There's so much emotion in the songs that you don't hear on Aenema. It's like a fucking hurricane in your head. Maynard gets so passionate about the music, and you can clearly hear it. It's awesome to listen to.

I don't know man, I remember being so jacked up to see them that I didn't know how to react when they dropped the slow shit on us.
I think I would have appreciated it more if I had seen them a couple times before they broke it out, or at least warned us that they were taking it down a notch for a moment.
Aenima > Salival

both albums are good. I have no problem with either of them. but I just personally believe that Salival is better.
Aenima is good because...well, it just fucking rules. Hooker with a Penis does it. That's when you get halfway through the album, and think to yourself (damn, why didn't I listen to this sooner?)
Salival is good because it's like a follow up to Aenima. Hey, you liked Aenima, but to hold you over, here's some milk with your cookies. I love milk with my cookies.
Cookies, are just cookies. The songs are like the ingredients. Stinkfist is like chocolate chip...H. is like peanut butter.... But cookies aren't any good without the fucking milk. The milk is what makes the cookie.

Haha, my statement was not directed at you and it wasn't meant to be demeaning to anyone else. I was just glad that Jevons shares my perspective when it's come to Tool.
I love Salival too, I think it's an awesome compilation. It offers an interesting, unique look into Tool, nothing could be better. Doesn't change the fact that Ænima is still my favorite album ever by anyone.
