"They've been in the studio several times from 2012 onwards. Tool could literally die in the studio, the world could end, life could slowly start again, the next sentient species could form consciousness and take over, and it would still be about as long as it's been since they "entered the studio" after Lateralus and shat out 10,000 Days."
Fucking hilarious comment.

But if you count the pubes on Aleister Crowley's ballsack and divide that by Blair's age, then add the magick number (9999) you will have the number of tracks on the next Tool album.
You are all welcome.
Drops the mike.

Made of t shirts they couldn't sell.

Thought i'd pose some thought provoking questions to the board while we wait for the new album
- With Maynard's vocals not being what they used to (in terms of long/high notes,screams,etc.).....Why cant they just play Triad? It's amazing live and im sure there have been tons of talented drummers/mixers that have come along since they last performed it.
- What if they never kicked Paul out?

-With Paul the band would have never made Lateralus. I'm not sure of what his writing credits are on Aenima. I don't know how much more they'd get done with Paul. All news/conversations/interviews involve Maynard, Danny, Adam...so it feels like the bass players' voices and opinions are limited in Tool. I assume Justin is content with his payday and his style rounded out the Tool sound...particularly on Lateralus and the best parts of 10K days. Wouldn't be Tool with Paul. In my opinion.
-I wonder if they won't do Triad without Disposition/Reflection. I don't think Maynard would sing Reflection and maybe they see those 3 tracks as one piece. Plus a 2007-14 Tool show contained around 80 minutes (?) of actual music. Later shows whittled down to 70 or so (?) with a fucking intermission. So play the hits plus the occasional fanboi track and back on the bus. Who the fuck knows?
I want to hope that no one bought that fucking blanket. Someone in the camp went "Are you fucking serious?" and they said "Oh...sold out." And that was that. Maybe they never existed in the first place...

Ive finally figured out the 10,000 puzzle! It was a clue to the release of the next album. It was to be released exactly 10,000 days after "10,000 days " album. I is so smart. You're all welcome.

agreed, agreed, agreed! in the Q/A session with Adam, his (paraphrased) words were "i can play with a bad back, justin can play with a headache... Maynard's voice is a different story". he also outright admitted that Maynard chooses the setlist 100% of the time.
which begs the question - why not play TRIAD!!!! D/R/T seems like the perfect tool concert option, doesn't it? consumes a lot of time, relatively easy on the nards voice, and will absolutely satisfy even the most die-hard of fans.

Makes you appriciate Black Sabbath from 1970 to 75, they put out 6 albums all of which are considered masterpieces.

I just read the recent interview with Adam. They could have told us all that stuff a long time ago and us fans probaly wouldn't be as flustered as we are. Instead we get these cryptic newsletters that beats around the bush.

Usually a stipulation regarding some lawsuits is not being able to talk about said lawsuit. Makes sense.

Actually there wasn't really much new information in that interview. I don't think there was anything there that hasn't been mentioned in previous interviews, except for the update as to where they are at with the new album.

Exactly right. My wife asked me about the "update" she had seen when skimming her Facebook feed. I said "Nothing we didn't already know...they're workin' on it." Sigh.

ToolArchive posted this recently:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJtLwp53lII
33min covering notable news about the new album from 2008 to present day.
I jotted down numerous thoughts after watching this video, but they got rather lengthy so I'll just cut out a few headlines.
1. Tool are actively trying to make this album a "statement release". An exclamation point on their repertoire.
2. Maynard has been brutally honest and far more accurate with any of his statements regarding the progress of the album. Additionally he has been as involved as he has needed to be in this process, perhaps even more involved than most think. (That's my perception anyway)
3. The numerous short tours accomplished ~5 perfectly understandable things:
A) The band collects their "yearly salary".
B) Fund legal costs for now settled lawsuit.
C) Show fans they are still active.
D) Brought all 4 members together for a reasonable length of time where they could all work on new music.
E) -misc note- Each tour got a touch more elaborate and Maynard made an active effort to include songs in the setlist that hadn't seen the light of day in quite some time. Crowd pleasing, yes. But also perhaps demonstrating he still has what it takes to contribute on *just about* any level he has in the past.
4. The curveball is a music video for a track on Opiate.
5. Danny can't be trusted with "studio" predictions. FOUR broken promises of "entering the studio" timeframes.
