we're in identical situations then, still. i'm thinking it'd be easy to account for 5,000 units (TA sale = only 1,000 ...even 4 days to count it out); a glitch causing lost orders would be noticeable and easy to correct, respond to - especially when money has been transferred (in my case, payment has been made ...the correct/full order amount has been withdrawn from my bank account, weeks ago). the only worry there is if they took in more than 1,000 + 4,000 orders, and then "something" happened... but that's unlikely. heh, i mean, if there were ever a band who knew how to count...
also, i bet orders to other countries had forced express/air/whatever - they paid more. i went ground, bc i'm cheap and the option was there. might have something to do with it. bet they prioritize things that way.
